I'm interested there's no interest here in the Focals with the mid and high that can switch to not include the bass driver; anybody given them a run (Trio 11 and Trio 6 BE) Cheers, Ross Focals for lack of a better word suck. They don't really translate. Most of them are incoherent speakers with the bright, totally undamped tweeters, warm punchy woofers, and resonant cabinets. The ones that are coherent are the Arias and Shapes and those sound frickin underwater with the warm woofers and heavily damped magnesium alloy tweeters. Then the simple fact is that the consumer, if he has real speakers, is getting more detail with a cheap Asian button dome than you're getting with 2000 dollar monitors. Yes Dan, I get it that you're not keen on Focals and that is your right but there are many people who are so are there others here who have thoughts about the Focal trios and if not why not as they appear to tick a lot of boxes germane to this discussion. And yes I 've auditioned the shape twins and broadly speaking I agree with your characterisations. Cheers, Ross

From what I read, the Ultra is wasted money for music studios in most cases perhaps with the exception of Hollywood scoring type scenarios. Google what users are saying and you'll find that the Max is creaming whatever they throw at it and certainly paying for extra GPU is not going to reap any benefits. Cheers, Ross

IME p;ace the "best" set optimally; place some grippy yet absorptive mat between , angle the second set to your ears and notice that having the second set as an option is a heck of a lot better than having just one with a possible slightly better presentation which in practice you probably will find it difficult to hear anyway. Just make sure the boxes are decoupled (no they are not running at the same time) . Just my .02 worth and yes i do it. Eve Audio 305 with KH 120 on top. Cheers , Ross

Wow, if the sound is as good as every facet of boxing and construction that is visible in the vids, the Flea 251 is a hell of a mic. An Anvil type road case! - not necessary but amazing they've gone to these lengths. Certainly ramps up my interest . Cheers, Ross

They are a good thing that work every time and let you get on and make music. - sure , you can second guess yourself and worry that there's something better out there and there will be but it's really a game of very small increments. Also Dan Kennedy (G.R.) is tops and supports his products, Cheers, Ross

Great to see Dan getting the kudos he deserves - the EQ in question is part of the GR duo I own which includes the pre which is permanently patched in sort of like the U87 or SM7 of preamps if you know what I mean. The eq is on the pre's insert to give another level of iron to the path and used more in that fashion than as pure eq. Cheers, Ross

Hey Cowboy, they've been speculating on a mac mini "pro" for some time now ; not sure myself as it would take sales away from their "Studio" but would be cool especially if they upped the connectivity and used the M2 chip with 24 gigs of ram ability as in the new-ish Macbook Air .
I also reckon with new models price will be increased as their costa have gone up.
if you've all the peripherals already then the base model studio is a pretty good deal and not likely to be slow for most of us - 32 gigs ram, M1 max chip, 512 Gig SSD and great connectivity.
Haven't helped you much but as you can tell I'm on that fence also. Cheers, Ross

i have to give a huge shoutout to Dan Kennedy of Great River guys. My G R ME 1NV EQ which i've had for at least a dozen years since new, blew it's mains transformer and wouldn't power on. My tech couldn't find a replacement to fit here in Australia as they are a custom make apparently. I e-mailed Great River support, Dan Kennedy answered saying they should not fail and sent a replacement and included international shipping all on his dime Bear in mind I've owned it for a fair stretch and was expecting to pay all costs and offered to ( he didn't bite on the offer). All it cost was my tech's time. Is that huge service we need to recognise or what?
Big thanks Dan.
Cheers, Ross

Have just seen this; if it cuts the mustard that's a hell of a price. i would prefer to pay a tad extra to get some kind of locking power supply connector however. I do get price points though. Cheers, Ross

FWIW, my take through i-Mac speakers is the re-issue is ever so slightly leaner sounding which may well be the better option within a mix; definitely close siblings though. Cheers, Ross
