Yeah, you are so right John - it's everything we aspire to as recordists; capture the performance without any crap. It of course is dependent on good musicians, good song , good instruments, good room probably in that order. They make it seem easy; thanks for the heads up.
Cheers, Ross

Yes a 'dummy' dynamic on and the main mic a bit off axis, still facing at the mouth is a good place to start. In post, i love the solution rpwmat posted some time back where you duplicate and flip phase on the track then automate that track to cancel by the amount you need.
Once you've a bug against sibilance it really gnaws away; interestingly I heard Janis Ian's at 17 yesterday which I've always thought sounded terrific yet there was heaps of sibilance relative to my ever growing nazi like standard. - Didnt stop that becoming a world wide hit.

A great 205 is just that - great. I had a Michael Joly one which sounded terrific on fiddle which is a litmus for me. It lost volume and tone so i sent it to OPR (who is posting here) and he told me that whist my ribbon element should have been high quality with the Joly mod , it was in fact a very cheap element and failed; make of that what you will but it did have a Lundahl etc and while working sounded really good so maybe a Lundahl and a new ribbon would do the job for the O.P. and save on landfill. Cheers, Ross
p.S. for those interested , I did get the mic back from OPR in timely fashion with a new ribbon but can't honestly say it's any better on fiddle than pre - malfunction.

I'll beat you to it Chris : " performative hubris" - My girlfriend accuses me of that (at least if I had one she might - maybe that's why I lost the last one!)

Hey Chris , may i suggest FWIW, a fasting regime based around max 2 meals per day (lunch and tea - no breakfast or between meal snacks) with at least 1 day a week 24 hr fast as well and at least once a month or more a several day fast. lots of filtered water and absolute adherence to no sugars which means simple carbs like breads, pasta etc , no juices / minimal fruit, vegetable/ sunflower oil etc all of that gone. A diet of for example; avocado, olive oil ,ginger, nutritional yeast, cruciferous vegetables, red vegetables, fish, organic eggs, grass fed meats to name a few coupled with strong consistent exercise. I had a rapid PSA trajectory which got knocked back to normal in 6 months when I took control in that way. I cant say it'd work for others and your situation is different to mine but google autophagy and see if any of it resonates with you. The idea is to not feed the beast and to give the body the chance to make it's own corrections. Wishing you the best. Cheers, Ross

There's only a few that slavishly follow the look though and for me that says a lot about the overall dedication to a great product. Cheers, Ross

I don't have it to hand but she does another version of Pin it (youtbe it) in a radio studio with a female bass player and drummer who are very good particularly the drummer who has superb feel. Cheers, Ross

Finally a review that really pushes a mic; nice to see it used with a bit of distance also. The aesthetics speak to a lot of care put into making it and these vocal takes only add to that- sounds really good. I tend to agree; if the name wasn't Gap, it would give it more chance when there is so much competition. Cheers, Ross

Raining 251s - the Gaps look beautifully made as do the Flea and Heisserman. I also see that UA have just released their Bock version which doesn't try to be an exact physical copy and simply doesn't look as good even though similarly priced. At those prices you'd hope you bought the "best" one. Cheers, Ross

I love the way she's effortlessly singing over the counter rhythm she's plays at times , kind of like singing and playing "day tripper" Cheers, Ross

Quite apart from the very cool performance, the mic shows grace in parts where other mics might get 'pinched' and thin sounding; it just sounds very natural even when she's right on it Certainly warrants serious looks from anybody looking to spend in the higher dollar camp. Cheers, Ross

Such personal preference and this is how it rolls with cans; for mine the Shure 940s are quite bright however the pricey 1540s that are are never mentioned are an almost fantastic sounding and super comfortable can, lovely mids and highs however they sadly have the dreaded bottom end bump which automatically disqualifies them. Almost but no cigar.

I love it - am playing bass with 2 groups at the mo. one is without a drummer but with a percussionist who has wonderful feel; the other i've been filling in for is a group doing 60's covers and they have a drummer. My biggest caveat as an audio engineer is when they aren't listening to their relative balances , most particularly the band with drums in a crap room - I almost tear my hair out finding it difficult to truly play.

Not to be antagonistic just for the sake of it but I have the Beyer 700Pro x (which i bought on recommendations from here) and while they are very easy to listen to I don't find them to be as accurate as i would like - the bottom end while sounding good , is a bit of a pillow for example. More accurate to my ears are the cheapish AT M40s (which I also have) but their issue is they become uncomfortable very quickly -I'm still looking. Maybe the Neumanns with correction?

Maybe someone knows the answer to this. When designating colours whilst in Mix page the mixer channels change colour yet switching to Edit page the tracks don't reflect the changes and yes colour is ticked in the Edit view drop down menu. I can also see at the page extremity to the very left of the track name /automation etc boxes on the Edit page, the colours as designated which do turn on and off when colour is turned on and off in Edit view drop down but the tracks just don't colour right across the page. Never had this before and wondering what I have or haven't done. Cheers, Ross
