The eagle has landed! Is there anything that still hasn't caught up with M1 yet?

I'm 99% through a clean install. It's really only been some legacy freeware things that haven't been updated in years, for me. If there's a relatively new version of something, it's worked.

Just a handful of plugins for me. Some of the iZotope stuff that they want you to buy the newest. I have some older novation keyboards that likely won't be working with M1. I don't use it much, but I don't think Auto-tune is native yet, but works in Rosetta. You'll be using it anyhow for PT.

So. Many. Plugins.

Rosetta had been working for any plugs that aren’t native for me

This is one of those moments I'm glad I limit my plug exposure, not tons of 3rd party here.

Production expert had a searchable database to confirm m1 and silicone plug in software compliance.

Depends if you mean working or working natively. Everything is working for me through Rosetta, even stuff that’s not supposed to be.
I thought I was going to have to update to the newest autotune but my old 8.1 which is listed as incompatible is working fine. The Lexicon reverbs which are infamously neglected by their developers work fine, even though Lexicon doesn’t list them as compatible. That’s the story with all the plugins I’ve tried.
I haven’t had any issues at all on the newer versions of Monterey. People were having tons of issues on Monterey 12.1 and 12.2. Update to the newest Monterey and you should be fine with just about everything. I do wish Avis would get it together and release a native pro tools but honestly it wouldn’t make any difference for me. These computers have more power than I will probably ever need.

How about Waves? If I'm out of WUP, will I need to re-WUP?
What about the Acoustica stuff? How's that on the M1 machines? I stopped trying with my previous machine. Are they worth installilng?

Not working native that I use? Relab, Some Sonnox Oxford, PSP Triple Meter. Do I need these? No but I like them. Exponential Audio is pretty much not coming to Apple silicon. I like those reverbs and Excalibur a lot but they're pretty much dead.

Anyone else having issues saving their own presets? When I go to save, most do not give me the option to save within the plug-in. I will be asked to save to Logic, a folder, desktop even another plugin from another manufacturer. Frustrating and odd. This is the first time I’ve ever encountered this. Other than that the Mac Studio has been great.

Any intel written code should work in rosetta, only isdue would be os and plug in code compatibility.
I had read that rosetta skinning happens once , first time and didn’t notice much (any?) ongoing cpu inefficiency.
I ended up just not updating any softwares that weren’t m1 compatible, so I could just focus on recording work not messing with the computer.
Basically , zero issues and great performance: it just gets the job done.

I have reluctantly recorded on a computer since the early 1990’s and have never had this issue before. I primarily use hardware for everything and this just helps keep things that way 😊. Yes, I use plugins just not a lot of them and yes some of them are very good. Hopefully I will figure this out or just give up on saving my own presets for a while. I’ll survive it either way.

Man alive. I have... So. Many. Plugins. You can choose to look at a OS/system/computer migration as a negative or a positive. It’s a mixed bag for me, I take it as the opportunity to seriously assess what software I actually use. the downside is pulling open an old session and realizing you’re missing plugins. My system is to just keep the old computer. I can usually go three years between updates. Currently using a 2018 Mac mini i7 and it can take a pretty good amount of pressure. I’ve been “this close” to ordering the Mac Studio for months, but like you I am more than happy to let other users storm the beach while the last of the bugs get ironed out.

Instead of asking how about this or that...isn't it faster just to go to the developer website?
I just updated my Sonnox stuff after a long wait. Had to just keep checking in. But some developers have some plugs updated, but not all. Like sonnible in my case.
One thing that has helped me tremendously was this little app developed by a gal at the purple site, called PlugInfo. You can find it on the AppStore. Not only does it tell you what architecture the plugin is set up for (Intel 32, Intel 64, or Apple), but it gives you links to the developer page right from the app. And what was really a blessing for me after going through things is it has the links in your file system to where the plugin is and you can easily move outdated stuff to a "not used" folder. Just a month or so ago Logic was taking several minutes to boot up because it was checking more than 400 plugins. Now it checks about nine or so and boots in seconds. I just had tons of older plugins that for some reason didn't get flushed out when they were updated.

M1 Pro showing zero strain on hour takes with the 40 input multitrack broadcast gig. Couldn't see a lot of difference in the strain on the 2014 i7 MBP versus the 2008 dual core MBP.....which was significant in both cases. The old ones never showed much in activity monitor, so I suspect a combo of processor and app code improvements.

Plus, for something like acoustica, I'd like to hear real world experience. That pluginfo sounds cool though...

That pluginfo sounds cool though... I'm honestly on the fence of buying now instead of waiting for the M2 chips because I'm praying a switch might FIX some acustica problems 2018 3.2Ghz Mini running catalina. Tried to get Modula to work and it was so buggy that tech support GAVE UP and now the normal Acqua plugs are giving me "deadline processing" errors with the CPU running fine. I truly hate that I love the sound so much that I'll find ways to tolerate it... if Acustica makes a DSP accelerator (which is said to be in development) I'll be the first in line to sell my Satellite!

That purple (I think) pultec package sounded killer, but wasn't worth blowing up my sessions on my last machine so I just gave up on them. My previous machine started really crapping out, so my hand was forced to bite right now.

I only have the free plugins from Acustica. Tried a couple times since I moved to an M1 pro. Unlike almost everything else I've tried, they still spike your RAM something crazy. I just don't think anything they offer is worth the worry and bother. But that is an Acustica problem, not Apple silicon.
They claim all of their stuff is native now.
