Eric worked on a ton of albums that had great influence on my life in the ‘90s; have always wanted to try his Undertone gear. He’s relocating from LA to Vermont? I think so, he mentions it in the video. I really like his work and his way of doing things. Very inventive. There's a bunch of great recording tips in this video, like in his other videos. Not to mention the great UTA gear he builds. Wish I could afford the UnFairchild...

So, Eric has put his studio up for sale. Anybody interested?
Here's a great video where he talks about the history and his work there. I'm not sure, there might be somebody picking it up eventually, but I guess there'll be no rush. What a great bedroom studio to have, though...
Warning: that video is over three hours long, so stock up on popcorn.

Well, 2 units for 6k is the same as the one you saw on Craigslist for 3k. Unless the couple means two units for 6k each...
I don't think 3k is overpriced for a high-class, Made in Europe compressor. Have you looked at the price on an LA-2A recently?
No he meant for one mono unit. It’s listed on reverb for 6500. Guy is dreaming In that case, you're right. Might as well buy a new one, they go for around 3k.

I saw one going on craigslist for 3k a week ago. Tell that guy he should revise his meds. Well, 2 units for 6k is the same as the one you saw on Craigslist for 3k. Unless the couple means two units for 6k each...

I knew briefly the woman Phil Spector shot, she was the sister of one of our crew guys. Uncommonly good looking and nice. We had one post-gig hang when we played SoCal in the '90's and I would wish for more. Imagining the shooting most charitably, it was reckless play with a loaded gun coupled with insobriety and or/insanity. I guess Spector had a reputation for brandishing handguns. Awful. He deserved to spend his last years in jail for that. For Phil Spector's music, he was an original. "To Know Him Is To Love Him" was a hit about the time I discovered pop music as a kid and the power thereof. I liked the Ronettes of course, Darlene Love, and "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" was awesome. No denying his talent and taste as writer and producer. From a recordist point of view, it's impressive that you can use that much reverb in mono and have it sound functional, never mind good. The lead vocals are still up front in those recordings. Is there pre-delay on the vocal or not much verb? The backing tracks are swimming in reverb and function as one sound. As a style, it was ground breaking. It gave the recordings a huge presentation which worked better for some songs than others. Spector's wiki page is fascinating. He did a lot more stuff after the "wall of sound" than I was really conscious of. Hit and miss with the Beatles. I was a consumer for all of Spector's recordings. You youngsters might want to listen to the early stuff if you have any curiosity about the late '50's - '60's evolution of popular music, and the way it was recorded.
Agreed. The early stuff was sort of trail-blazing. Even though it was always a bit over the top. But perfect for songs like 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling'. I remember I was awed by that back then. However, the mess he made of Let It Be sort of negated all he did before, at least for me. That was utter crap. Also, his work with John Lennon later on was total crap to me.
And then he blew it (literally) and screwed up his life completely. What a pity.

I've used these for a few years now. Love it. Hardly ever use the limiter, though

Well, it's not exactly free. You pay with your personal data! Which is worth a lot to those people.

Great video. I had the original plugin from Abbey Road and loved it. Your video made me reinstall it. Thankfully, I'm still on Mojave so I can get it to work with 32 Lives again. Thanks for the reminder of how great that stuff is.

Has anyone here ever tried that Sound Radix plugin called "Drum Leveler"? I've been wondering about that thing. Lately, my drums have all been Superior Drummer, so I haven't needed anything as dramatic as Drum Leveler appears to be capable of, but I've been curious. I like the UI. I demo'd it when it came out and couldn't really gel with it, but that was years/workflows ago so I don't really trust that impression much. I use it on individual tracks to even out uneven hits, mostly snare and kick. I love it, I prefer it to compression, to me it sounds more natural. I don't use it on the drumbus though.

I am a longtime UA user and have, only a couple of days ago, purchased the Lexicon 480 Plugin, but while I can see the reduced prices for some plugins, I can't find any $25-off code in my account... ...

WILL NOT SHIP OVERSEAS - that's pretty steep, considering it was once shipped overseas in the first place. We should have kept this over here. Ah. too bad, I'll take my 40,000 elsewhere.

I love how they say "favored by Paul and John" as if they had ANY choice in the matter... John wouldn't have had a clue...
Nor did he care.

I have the UAD 33609 and the AML 54F50, which is a harware 2254 clone. So, I'm still not clear, do I get the 33609C for free asutomatically, or do I have to buy a bundle, half of which I don't need?

Funny when gear nerds, who invest thousands and thousands in esoteric gear called Pultecs, U47s, 1073s and such, and obsess over the advantages of one tiny component against another, make fun of hifi nerds investing thousands and thousands in esoteric gear. We're all guilty as charged.

I just upgraded my Mac Pro to Mojave and have no intention to go further. My office iMac had Catalina, what a mess. I'm glad I finally downgraded that machine to Mojave too.

Thanks for the heads-up. I also grabbed the Neold. Roger Schult, one of the developers and builder of amazing gear under his own name, is a good friend. I'm glad you guys dig his work.

At 7.500 euros, I can happily live without a Bock 251. Unless it writes great songs for me...

That’s been the regular price in the UK. Studio Care is also a good place to grab a pair of Coles...I think brand new they are about $1800? Neumann’s as well. I just checked Studio Care. They're about $480 over there. Damn. Why are these so much more expensive over here in the US? Why is most of the US stuff so much more expensive over here?
