I got a bunch of 19" racks to fill... What's wrong with ME? Nothing. Thank you, sir.

That gives me hope that Bock mics are finally readily available in Europe. It's a drag to see all that boutique gear in the US that we can't get.

If you're desperate enough to ask a bunch of addicts here, I'd say keep it. I've sold a bunch of gear that I later came to regret. I even bought back some gear for more than I sold it for. I learned my lesson.

I hear you, I always track guitars without compression. And for heavy, higher gain guitars, I hardly ever use compression afterwards. Amp compression and a booster is enough. But for cleaner guitars, rhythm or funky guitars, an LA-3A works great.

I used my LA-3A on toms recently and was great. I saw a MasterClaes video on Youtube, where he mentions that the LA-3A shines on drums and, boy, he was right. For those that are interested, here's his shootout of an LA-3A against some plugin emulations. Very enlightning. Bad link. I’d love to watch the shootout though. Funny, it worked before. Okay, Try again.

3A on snare? Oh man, I’ve gotta try it... I’ve never liked it on drums, but I’m always in +50dB mode, so that may be the issue? Being a massive LA3A lover on vocals, bass, and guitar; in limit-mode on +50 gain! ... I used my LA-3A on toms recently and was great. Love my UA LA-3A (hardware) for electric guitars. For acoustics, try a Pye. I have a clone, but apparently, the Waves Kramer Pye is pretty good too.

GSI VB3 is what I use. It's very very good. I do have an organ and leslie as well but VB3 is just less hassle than dragging out the leslie. Guido is a great guy too. Top notch. Yes, I love VB3. However, I like the original more than version II. Somehow it has more balls. Right now, I'm contemplating to go out of the box with a Hammond keyboard and the 2101 leslie. Nothing like rotors that move some air.

Wasn't there something about Milli Vanilli and lip-syncing being bad, like around 30 years ago? It's ok now? No, not the lipsynching thing. It was the fact that the Milli Vanilli guys didn't even sing on their own album, it was all studio musicians and singers. The Milli guys couldn't sing if their life depended on it. The band was the brainchild of their extremely successful producer, who pulled the same stunt with a bunch of other acts here in Germany and sold tons of records. Made him a millionaire. He even sang some parts himself instead of the guy who was lipsynching and prancing on stage.
The Grammys have always been a massive joke. Can't take those people seriously. Same goes for the Hall of Fame clowns. It's all just about the money. These people represent everything thats wrong with the music business. Too much business, not enough music. I'm glad I'm out.

Looks great with the Neve-style knobs. Funny, I had AML build me a stereo pair into an API 500 rack a few years ago and they told me it would not work with Neve-style knobs. Not enough space. Guess they lied. The 52F50 was only launched a few weeks ago. You are confusing your 54F50's with these 52F50's. You cannot use Marconi style knobs on the 54F50's because it would cover up the text around each control. The 52F50 comes with grey Marconi style knobs as standard (msamper has replaced them here with Stockli (EMI style) knobs). Colin www.audiomaintenance.com
You're right too...
Guess I need more sleep...

Really, their slogans are so bland and meaningless, they put me off this immediatley. Sounds like a gathering of politicians.
But I'm glad that John will put it through the paces. Maybe it's better than their marketing. I'm just tired of these useless phrases everywhere.

I wonder what the break down is on the "other" forum. Ha, 3 - 5, judging from their behavior. To be fair, I haven't been there for a few years, it might have changed, but, no, I'm realistic. There's more money to be made with the clueless and the wannabes. Does the sarcasm show my age?
Me, I'm 18, but my body disagrees. He feels the 66 years more than my brain and heart do.

The UT 47FET is difficult to buy over here, but I scored one in the UK last December. Seems it was the only one they had, it was out of stock after I bought it. I only used it in its traditional role on kick and toms so far, but I like it. I'll use it on a bass session later this month. For a 47FET clone, it's a great choice, especially considering the price. SOS gave it great review and compared it directly with the current Neumann model, which, together with a some sound samples I heard online (I know...) convinced me to buy it.
For vocals, I still prefer my U47 from Andreas Grosser, although the 47FET sounded good on some demo vocals I did. But I agree, it's more agressive on vocals than the older U47. Which might not be a bad thing for rock vocals.

I like their Britson plugin. But, yes, they have a weird policy. And a weird customer service. I once contacted them through the customer service function on their website with a question and they never replied...

Interesting. In this video, the SSL Native wins for me. The UAD, surprisingly, sounds harsh in comparison. But, they model different consoles, right? Waves and UAD are the 4000E, the SSL is a newer one, as far as I know (a 9000??). Also, I wish he would have included the Brainworx SSL, that's the one I use most, again, it's a 4000 E, so different from the SSL Native plugin.

I get great punch out this for kick and snare tracks. You can also switch the EQ to the E curve, which gives it a lot more character. I love it.

I didn't include the Nu Mu on the list because in the only side by side comparison I was able to find, while the Nu Mu was puchier, it didn't enhance the depth of the mix like the Vari Mu. It could have been a bad comparison. I haven't heard the Nu Mu, but I love the Vari Mu. If you can swing it, go for it. Any chance to rent one and try it out first?

I was afraid there would be lots of recommendations for the Manley! Not easy on my wallet, but I'm about to sell my fishing boat, so I'll have some cash for a big purchase. My only concern with going with the Manley is that when using the UAD and Pulsar versions, I'm always using the Mix control, and my OTB workflow isn't set up for that. anybody heard the Tegeler? It's so cheap! If you can swing, go for the Vari Mu. I love it on my mixbuss. There's also the Manley Nu Mu, which is a bit cheaper but claims to have the Vari Mu vibe.

Yeah, I hardly noticed three plus hours going by. I also watched a few Andrew Scheps videos, but I could never make those five hours, even though they were entertaining too. It's hard to beat Eric Valentine's videos, so much information there...
