This deal is too good, had to share for RGO. Love these plugins. It's the channel strip and the bus compressor. I've used the Channel Strip a bit already and really like it, but I haven't tested the bus compressor much yet. I have UAD and Plugin Alliance versions also, so there will have to be some shootouts.

I'd like to hear some opinions or shootouts on the ChannelStrip compared to the usual suspects, e.g. the Plugin Alliance versions.
Not sure I'm going to have much time to try these out over the next few days.
I think I actually like the layout of this Channelstrip more than the PA one. I know that's hilarious, as PA is just making it look like the actual channel on a console.

The SSL Native are more clean and crisp since they are "clean code" I believe. They are ported from the SSL C200 digital console. On my acoustic thingy I did a few days back the SSL won for me, more clear sounding. The PA 9000 J was good, warmer, more natural. Totally subjective, both good. Keep in mind this deal lasts for about a week, and you can do a 6 month no limitation demo of the SSL Native plugins if you are on the fence. |

Yeah they’re 20 year old algorithms like the Oxford plugs. Ohm's law is a 194 year old algorithm.. Sometimes old stuff just works and reinventing the wheel stuff isn't necessary. Exactly. It worked then and it works now. It’s not like the bx_consoles are much cleaner and the Sonnox and Waves Renaissance plugs are still awesome. The bx 9000 gate is so cool though. That gate is the coolest part of the whole plug imo |

Ah is it, they are all v6? Also, does it matter in the sense that the units are old snd their schematics haven’t changed? Whrn UA, it tends to add other parts of circuit, so goes end to end , were these 2 ssl plugs, missing something ?

I know. But the ones I have (Slate and Townhouse) can’t compare to my hardware unit (TK Audio). And I like the design!  Also, based on my experience with Console 1, I know that SSL doesn’t put its name on anything that’s not worthy of it. That’s my opinion, etc  |

No these SSL plugs and the Waves Renaissance and Oxford plugs I mentioned don’t even try to model analog. Analog modeling is still a square peg in a circular hole as the TDR guys say. These are all digital from back when digital had to work, plugins had lots of resources invested into their development, and they were sold to pros for hundreds of dollars. This is prior to flavor of the month analog modeling plugins designed to sell subscription packages. Those are mostly toys. These are tools. The toys marked up to 300 bucks to sell 30 dollar monthly subscriptions like a porn site distract from the tools that have had been worked on for years that the programmers and companies need to sell for 50-200 bucks with rarely any discounts to keep the lights on. Then we get people on the internet balking at paying 50 to 100 bucks for something that will get the job done. Or even balking at paying Tony @ Klanghelm 25 for a tube thing they need to fix something because 25 a month or 300 a year gets you 10 plastic sounding saturators, 10 lame guitar amps, 3 channel strips with the same clipper, a bad GML plug, and the worst reverb ever from Plugin Alliance. Then they freak out when they find out they don’t have a limiter or something that can hit the broadcast or streaming requirements and should’ve bought the tools from SSL, Sonnox, Tokyo Dawn, etc |

I think we are saying something similar, that this coding was done very well, so, even if older, they are valuable tools and especially so at this price!

That "Analog" button on the PA SSL is for the stereo mode, either a pure digital match or an "analog" discrepancy between L and R. I see a THD trim and a THD ALL trim on those too. I think you can turn the distortion completely off there. Just clarifying for my own understanding, if you already knew this. Some of these controls aren't so obvious to me, like on the Waves ones sometimes "Analog" just means noise, kind of weird. So I had to look in the manual. |

Tempting deal but not an instant buy for me. Good point on the coding though, aren't these ported from the SSL Duende?
I bought their $20 compressor plug on the new years sale. At that price it was obviously instant, if only for the reason I don't have many native plugs on the Mac rig so I thought it'd be a nice option?
It can certainly be clean & invisible but has more then enough range to mangle a sound. And the metering is pretty slick. Haven't used it much yet but I like it.
These? Not sure what they offer me since I already have the UAD versions.
Only reason I might grab them would be to offset DSP load on the UAD. I'll probably load an old session where I know I used the SSLs a bunch and see how much headroom I could gain for other UA plugs.
Truthfully the SSL channel plugs aren't a go to for me. They're more of a utility piece that I'll load when I need to work fast or have all the options in one place for extensive shaping... Like drums or stacks of backing vocals that were tracked mic to interface.
