Peter from A-Designs recommended the Rupert Neve to me. I got the R6, zero issues so far.

I watched the video and I find it terribly funny! I’m sure CLA finds it funny as well. He’s kind of doing a parody on himself! In my view, everyone involved with the ad thought it was very clear that the intention was comedic. “I AM the sound of hits”. I mean, what else could he do, light the speakers on fire?

Standard 67 : 95% NOS tube: 98% AMI and NOS tube: Identical, I will upload the video when returning from tour tour. It was so close that I actually had to enlarge the tracks to make sure the wave form was different and it was not the same track I was never offered the AMI. How much extra did it cost?

Well, I tried it on overheads today and it's an absolute instant buy! It's really fantastic, it will be my default strip from now on. I'll have the SSL as a second choice for less character and a bit more surgical EQ, and reserve the Neve for tracks that need really heavy character.

I’ll demo it, I’ve read great comments. I love my Console 1 and the SSL strip, and this might be even better...

Just got an email from Stam (finally!) about the NOS tube. I've decided to go for it!

I guess I’ll have to demo SurferEQ sometime. Also Soothe, I’ve seen it highly recommended for vocals especially.

Dynamic EQ

Usually I simply automate a volume reduction or an EQ, but the Sonnox is exactly the “magic” fix I was looking for, dead simple to use and really powerful too. I’m usIng it in MS mode, knocking just a dB in a couple different frequencies, with the detector in “onset” mode.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I demoed the Sonnox and it took me seconds to dial it in. It felt like cheating! Sounds really transparent. I’m going to go for it.

I did try the free version of TDR Nova and it never did what I wanted it to do. I was never able to set an absolute threshold so audio would only be affected when I wanted it to. I'm sure it was operator error, but I gave up on it.

I'm thinking of adding a dynamic EQ to my plugin arsenal. The main use would be to tame a few offensive cymbal hits here and there in the overheads. The Sonnox looks good and even though it's pricey, it's 50% off right now. I'm going to demo it and probably get it. Any other recommendations? Either for dynamic EQ plugins or "offensive cymbal hit" cures

My setup is: patchbay normalled for tracking (mic pres into interface inputs) with zero cables, outboard gear available for patching. For mixing, I patch 8 cables and my Logic I/O plugin presets do the rest.

Usually not but I did strap a Retro 2A3 on the buss for an acoustic project and it practically mixed itself! I now have a pair of EM-PEQ so I’m thinking of adding either the Retro or these to the 2-buss. Right now the Retro is used for kick and snare, and the EM-PEQ on overheads but I’m still testing them.

Got the Primacoustics on top of solid wood stands filled with sand. I like them better than the Auralex. The flexibility of the foam is part of the reason for decoupling, they form a spring. You can’t use any old pad.

Thanks! I ended up getting two Implodes, because 1176!!! I also got a Pulse for my Colour Palette. I'm afraid made the "mistake" of putting the snare through the N mode (weight!) and then into the other Chroma in A mode (crispness!). I might need to buy some Mass Driver modules... (no rack space for a Silver Bullet)

I finally had some time to toy around with my pair of Chromas. They sound great! I still have to learn them, and I haven't even tried the different EQ presets. So - which EQ settings are everyones favorites and why? My intended uses are kick+snare/drum buss/mix buss.

For live recordings, done with utility preamps, I like to lowpass at 12k. I once read a forum discussion or article (can't remember) that explained how due to the RIAA curve, most any music released before the digital era would be lowpassed around 12k. I tried it and I liked it!
I know this is not set in stone and I also haven't explained it really well, so if anyone can chime in with more accurate information, I'd like to hear it. The thing is, it worked for my tracks.
