Many great takes here, and I totally get the other point of view. Once I'm really busy and immersed in the "other" stuff, dropping by and talk gear can we a welcome relief. We'll see. Thank you all, have fun. For a few months I'll be trying to make a record instead of testing microphones and planning which gear to buy. But I'll be back!

That's ok, I'm sorry my post could be misread. Everyone's human!

I refuse to leave in anger. Sometimes the obvious needs to be stated. I think RGO is a great forum, full of knowledgeable and friendly people that are happy to contribute their expertise, personal support (when needed) and carry out a civil discussion at all times. It's the polar opposite of "that other site". You should be proud, JohnkennThis is my post 1,345. I don't think I've wasted a single minute here, neither reading nor writing. I'm at a point where I can't and won't buy new gear, while I have a pressing need to direct my mind towards different pursuits, specifically songwriting. I, personally, can't do both. If I'm thinking about reverbs, transformers and mics I'm not thinking about lyrical subjects or filling my mind with "stuff" that will come out as songs. That's my own process, and I'm sure everyone has their own. So, for me personally, I think it will be useful to take a break from the forum, which I visit every day, many times per day (as well as taking a break from gear related news sites, cutting down on social media, etc.) I'm parking my books about recording, producing and mixing and picking up the ones about songwriting, etc. And I'll be back once I can hang my songwriter hat and wear the producer hat again. In fact, I can't wait to be back!

Well, that's sad. I'm sorry for you. Good bye.
P.S. if anybody needs to reach me, I'm easy to find. My nickname is my band's name.
I really enjoyed this discussion, although I was hoping for a better ending.
Peace.

I have to admit...reading stuff like this makes me wonder why I even bother to have the board. A thread about what a waste of time a thread on a forum is. Now I’ve seen it all. Maybe you should read it again, and read my contributions to the forum

I know, I know. We’ve all said it many times! However, I’m done. My studio is fully equipped. I got everything I need, analog and digital, and a few things I don’t. All my racks are full. Storage areas are full too.
There’s only one thing that can improve my output: stop reading about gear and finishing 18 songs that are in various states of disarray! I’ve been putting it off too long, for several reasons, but I’ve run out of excuses.
Tomorrow, I’m going to turn off forum notifications, log out and switch my mental focus for a few months. Lyrics need to get written, melodies need to be finished, songs need arrangements. No amount of production knowledge or gear is going to help with that.
I’ll see you on the other side…

PSP 2445 here too. It's like cheating.

Those of you that have them, where do you run them? Master buss, drum buss, individual tracks as needed?

My report: it rocks! I really like it and the extra modes are genuinely useful. The controller is handy, it’s not just a gimmick. I think this is a sleeper, especially at the current price.

I was just gifted this (the price is about half what it was when new) and it’s pretty cool!
I barely had time to plug it in, install and test the defaul preset and the cute levers. I can see myself using this!
Does anyone else have one? Tell me all about it!

Do you have a pic of the remote rig? Or just give us an overview of what you are using?

Agreed on Shadow Hills… Haven’t used it but have heard good things about Inward Connections / Tree Audio gear. Seems high quality and no frills. Anyone here use this stuff? Their client list is pretty impressive. I have a pair of Tree Audio The Branch II, I got the second one this year after a few years of running one. First call preamp on anything.

If I wasn’t so invested in Console 1 I’d be buying this in a heartbeat. I still might!
One thing missing from the SSL is the analog modeling, which Softube has in the form of the Drive control. And then, I own more Softube channel strips and compatible plugins.

How about SSL improves their plugin quality first? They’ve sold the same algorithms for almost 20 years and just updated the gui and use JUCE. Compared to the coolest recent plugs (Fuse, TDR, PSP, etc), the SSL Duende, now Native, plugs just sound like shit. They just did. I haven’t upgraded yet.

I'm tempted to buy it just in case I ever need it. I remember I was very impressed with the demo. But usually I can get away with manual cutting of the toms, or even with no gating. Hmm...

Just got an AEA RPQ2... Kinda blown away, really. Everyone always yaps about how punchy transformer-based preamps are, but to me these have wayyyy more punch and depth than my CAPIs (which I love). Has me wondering if I haven’t been chasing the wrong rabbit... Very interesting. What mics are you plugging into it?

Thanks! I tested it on several speakers, big and small I forgot to mention it's a Hofner bass, which makes the low end a bit peculiar.

I feel a bit self-conscious posting this but here's the mix I did with no HPF: distrokid.com/hyperfollow/stormymondays/forever-youngI love how it turned out. Sometime this week I'll get from the studio the old mix (made two years ago) and the current one and post them on a Dropbox folder. Of course I'm a better mixer now, and I have some extra hardware I didn't have then, but it's still an interesting comparison. I'm also the producer, singer and guitarist, so please be gentle with any criticism...

I'd be way more interested if a pair didn't take up 6 freaking u of space. Should be 2u. That's called Retro 2A3 VERY recommended!

Well the mic will be here next week, thank you al for the help! Can’t wait to try it on several sources. I wish I could get a EV 666 but those seem to have gone for good.

I have an EV 664 on the way, mint condition, it even has the original case. It comes with a XLR pigtail, so I assume it’s already wired for low impedance.
How can I check and make sure?

I know lunchboxes all have cascade functions but I much rather have the stereo pairs side by side. Easier for recalls and tweaks, I think.

Sunset Chamber on the Bricasti is usually hard to beat.
