Got the real thing at my studio. I think most emulations exaggerate the quirks of the Hammond (noise, keyclick, etc). A real Hammond and Leslie sits in a track with no effort at all and without calling undue attention to itself.
In fact, to my ears a real Hammond only knocks your socks off when it’s playing against other instruments. It’s a bit like the kind of guitar tone that sounds great in the mix or live, but not impressive by itself.
That said, I like Nord keyboards and they really are second best to my ears.

The only thing I don't like about the Soundtoys plate is that you can't adjust the predelay fully to zero. I suppose the real one they modeled is like this. Otherwise it's great. The AR plates sounds very complex, so I eq the send/return to this one a lot. Also it murders the CPU. I like the chambers in Nimbus a lot, and VSR S24 has some nice plate and especially stage sounds, very immersive. Plates have zero predelay, so it can’t be that. Weird!

I got pics and info back, he now only has five left (not surprising at this price). I bought a pair (non consecutive serials) of 1970's silver ones with the Tuchel connectors and XLR adaptors for €1400. Seems legit, has a Belgian Broadcasting email address etc. I'll shoot them out with the 3U Warbler 127 Cardioid Flat, and if they lose/don't sound much better, I can always flip them for more than I paid. Not ready to jump eight hours there and back on a train to try them in person. So he still has three black ones left, they are XLR and are more recent (1980s) but look more beat up/have no logo badges. Anyone who is interested can find him on Audiofanzine. The Warbler didn’t last 5 minutes in my studio, and that’s before I got the KM84s. On acoustic guitar, it was bested even by a cheap Avantone SDC. I know some people really love these mics, but they stand no chance against the KM84.

Tried it today, it's glorious!!! Fantastic chambers and fantastic tape delay. The interface is a bit intimidating at first but you get the hang of it in a couple minutes. Instant John Lennon!!! It also comes with a TON of presets, I wish they were categorized by instrument.

Bought! I did have some trouble getting v9 and v10 to work and had to follow some troubleshooting FAQ but I got it in the end. Will try it tomorrow, it looks like a deep plugin...

Noob question: if I buy this, which I believe it’s on Waves 10.x, will it force me to upgrade the Abbey Road Plates which I bought in Waves 9.x? I have no other Waves plugins and I think the WUP is a pain...

Got me a pair recently (not matched, but who cares) and they are really something. My Joly modded Oktavas did see me through for quite some time, and I’d recommend them without hesitation, but the real thing is the real thing.

I've been using PrimalTap more lately in place of Echoboy. I also love my Moog 500 series delay, probably should've got another while they were still around. Having midi control for it is nice when changing sessions. Oh man there's an empty spot in my 500 lunchbox that really wants to have one of those! They're nowhere to be found these days...

Go to that's always patched to a pair of sends for printing delay "parts." The additional delay types get used as often as the SDD-3000 mode, they all run through that SDD-3000 preamp. ITB, I'll use the moogerfooger delay or Soundtoys EchoBoy for analog models, PrimalTap, Eventide UltraChannel or iZotope DDLY for digital, or IK Tape Echo. Aargh, it's discontinued now!!! I can see one available locally to me second hand. I guess I should go for it!!!

Now you have me lusting for a hardware delay! Forgot to mention I also got the Pulse Colour Module by LTL. Sounds really good!

So how easily does this DSP in the interface thing work? Say for instance that I'm overdubbing a vocal, so I use the reverb in the interface and route it to the monitor or headphone mix. When I go to playback, it will be dry, right? So then, in theory I would have to hit a button to listen to it with whatever reverb plug I prefer. Then if I decide I don't like the take, I would have to hit another button to disable the plugin? UNLESS the the DAW is smart, which I'm pretty sure Logic is. I'm pretty sure it automatically disables plugins when recording if not in low latency mode. And I would never use input monitoring, right? So hide that button. Very easily! I have an RME Fireface 802. As far as I'm concerned, it IS a digital mixer, only the faders and "desk" part of it it's done in software (Total Mix) instead of hardware. It's got dynamics, reverb, EQ, none of it gets printed. You can monitor through the interface with no latency and a nice "comfort" reverb. When you press play in Logic, you will listen to whatever you have setup in Logic: reverb sends, EQ, etc. You don't need to disable anything for recording, or even use low latency mode. All the live tracks are being monitored through the interface, and all the playback comes from Logic, with any delay fully compensated. You can leave the buffer size as high as you like.

Tell me... what are your go-to delays and why? Do you use any plugin that has a ducking feature a-la TC2290? My go-tos: - Echoboy: sounds great, but I don't like the interface much. It's not very inspiring, and there are too many options and choices. It might be childish but I'd like it way more if it somehow graphically referenced the units that it's emulating. Still, it's probably the one to learn inside and out so the interface doesn't get in the way.
- Audiothing Outer Space: a thing of beauty! It's saved me from buying a real Space Echo, which I think are overpriced these days and I hear the maintenance is a pain
- Hardware Watkins Copicat: it's a bit noisy but I like it! I have the solid state version. Can't beat it for vibe and authenticity!
More options in my arsenal: - Echoboy Jr: looks a lot better than the full version, less options (though probably not the "best of" emulations), missing a crucial feature for me (tap tempo).
- Softube Tube Echo: not bad, maybe too warm, I have to test it more.
- I also own whatever is bundled in Logic, which is not half bad I think.
I'm also thinking about getting a Fulltone SSTE, but the dollar/euro exchange is not great at this time...

Is there a reason to use software monitoring instead of hardware?

Ok I just checked and I got: 01 Track Artist MASTERED 16.wav
That’s pretty useful I think.

My preference is for as much information as possible. That’s also how I usually get files from one of the top mastering houses in Europe.

Hey M57 you are right about A/B, I also do that a lot. I also like to use the Save button. I guess a two fader version would be the killer one
