www.waves.com/plugins/abbey-road-chambersThough y'all might be interested in this intro deal. I'm curious how this compares to Ocean Way. The demos kinda give me a similar impression but, it might be different enough to justify its usefulness.

29 bucks, I bought it. Sounds interesting and different to my other verbs (chambers too) so I bought it.

Noob question: if I buy this, which I believe it’s on Waves 10.x, will it force me to upgrade the Abbey Road Plates which I bought in Waves 9.x? I have no other Waves plugins and I think the WUP is a pain...

V10 will work through the usual waves central online installer. You can use v9 and v10 plugins side by side. Just don't install both v9 and v10 of the same plugins.

Bought! I did have some trouble getting v9 and v10 to work and had to follow some troubleshooting FAQ but I got it in the end. Will try it tomorrow, it looks like a deep plugin...

Tried it today, it's glorious!!! Fantastic chambers and fantastic tape delay. The interface is a bit intimidating at first but you get the hang of it in a couple minutes. Instant John Lennon!!! It also comes with a TON of presets, I wish they were categorized by instrument.

Bought it, like it, but it’s a resource hog. It made slap down $100 to upgrade from 8GB to 16GB RAM in my Mac Mini at home, which is needed to do anyway

It does sound great...
I'm getting 3% CPU usage on my Kaby Lake i7 7700k which is a good bit for that processor.

Just bought the AR Chambers and AR Plates for $49 total. It was kind of hard to resist at that price. I'm looking forward to giving them a go.

Once again Waves is embarrassing UAD with another reverb plugin which outdoes UAD in every way. First the Abbey Road Plate blows the UAD plate out of the water and now they beat UAD to the punch bringing out a proper chamber reverb. And it sounds lovely of course. No brainer at this price.

I’m loving this ARC but man, I can’t get the Waves plate to sound anywhere near as lush and non-plugin-y as UAD EMT140. Maybe it’s that I’ve nevrer used an actual EMT plate. Maybe the real thing sounds plastic-y-er and the UAD is artificially lush.

ARPlates didn't do that much for me. At least yet, and I've had it for 6 months. I like the freebie plate that sound toys gave away better. I'm liking the chamber though. so far digging it.

So far my favorite plate of all is the Soundtoys Little Plate. Behind that is the UAD 140. Both are great, I dig the Abbey Road by waves as well but Soundtoys for the win IMO.

I was so hopeful of the ARPlate...didn't do it for me either. Think I missed out on the little plate one.
Edit: What a joy! It turns out I did get the free Little Plate. Just never installed it. Gonna try it now.

I would rank them 1. Soundtoys Little Plate 2. Waves AR plate 3. UAD 140. Soundtoys is the most dynamic of them although dark while waves does the bright and full thing. The UAD 140 falls short in that it feels like a snapshot repeating like a bad convolution verb... good for some things but it starts to become apparent when its on the main vocal as the center of a song.
That being said none of these plugins come close to a real plate... its just so deep, 3D, dynamic and magical.

It's interesting how people feel about the UAD plate. Not that I disagree. I spoke with Chas Sanford who owned one of the 140s that the beach boys used and he said when he heard the UAD, he immediately sold that plate to a university.
It always makes me wonder, without the original kit pieces to A/B, maybe they are just different sounding because the original modeled pieces were different...

Having worked with an EMT140, actually 2 one a solid state amp and one a tube from Tecnesonix studios in St louis, So far. The Soundtoys one is killer. Messed with it today and really really like it. Its also just as simple as a real plate. I EQed the crap out of the sends and returns to the real EMT and would do the same here. I really like the cool stuff you can do with the infinite feedback loop too. Nice sound design possibilities. Also I like how this thread on Chambers went to Plates
