I can't for the life of me understand modern classic microphone companies. They are completely ignoring their customers. Maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about. Maybe they are just too big to shift their paths. Just seems like they are blatantly ignoring the opportunity that is screaming at them. The demand is unreal. The market is being eaten up with new, great companies and they are just aparantly sitting there.

A little off topic perhaps but I am really interested in hearing the barefoot mm27's. I also found round badge's statement about the one18's replacing his ns10's. to me they sound utterly different. I have only mixed on 824's, a7x's, one18's and ns10's. intrigued with having truer full range speakers as another tool.

drsaxThe Electra's do have something that sounds new. I don't know if it's because I used them after listening to Gregory's colorful language explaining them. I definitely like them a lot. Only used the plugs. He makes cool gear for sure.

After more listening (gonna start building and mixing a tune on the ATC's tonight) The Amphions are definitely more forward in the 600Hz (ish) - 4 kHz area. Don't know if that's intended, don't know if that's more of the truth or what. But they definitely are. I'm listening to one of my favorite sounding records in a long time, Gregory Porter "Liquid Spirit." I've often thought that his voice could get a little painful at loudish volume listening. Always thought maybe it was just the mix. But everything about that recording and mixing job otherwise is just fantastic. Just a little painful (music isn't supposed to be painful) in a wide Q around the 1khz region when he really is belting. But when I switch over to the ATCs, there's no pain. Sounds maybe a little forward, but not that overtone/pain - kind've like you get when you solo/audition what a de-esser is cutting out in a signal. In the song "Musical Genocide," I can really hear this. It makes me think that this forwardness isn't at all what was intended... The Amphions might have a little more separation - or wider soundstage - and they may seem to sound a little more exciting...but that would make sense if they are little more forward. These are just my ears in my room, so I'm not pretending to be king shit. Who knows, I could have shitty ears - but I don't think so. lol. I have noticed sometimes my mixes sound a little scooped of midrange - which would make sense if the Amphions are a little forward. So, as of right now, I think I'm leaning towards the ATCs...but maybe I'm talking myself/rationalizing my way into it. Again, the proof will be in the mixing. As I'm sitting mumbling I might need to try the baby ATC's Wife is screaming "not more speakers" No more fucking speakers!" Lol

stamMy apologies. Feeling a bit too witty to be posting on the internet. You're absolutely correct. Your products are what's beautiful about a competitive free market. Keep up the good work. Haven't heard anything but praises about your products.

Sparklehorse is so good. Those are some records that definitely have a signature sound. I'm sure it has less to do with the flickengers...What a great talent. I'd love to read more about those recordings.
His records are high art. The sonic palette makes me have synesthesia.
some records are hyper-realistic snapshots of the best possible version of everything being played. Then there are records like kid a, it's a wonderful life, the downward spiral, sgt pepper, loveless, a soft bulletin, etc, that just are their own entire universe. they take you there and wrap their arms around your mind.

Ya a UAD 3 roadmap would really help UAD keep customer ties in and satisfied.. As of now, 80% of the people I know that use UAD are not happy with the cost and lack of info regarding the update cycles. The SF Apollo was revamped around 3 years after its initial release. UAD doing away with mk2 pricing is also BS and has more than a few people frustrated. The sound is phenomenal as far as plugins goes .. I see it from a different perspective. I still have enough power on my Quad Card... I use the UAD plugs like some extra outboard. Charging me for mk II was nothing but stupid, pulled me away as a long time customer. Second thing that pulled me away was their last poll . I give them 30 minutes of my working time, and the voucher is limited. NG marketing strategy. The prices for thier plug ins are nothing but crazy... Last thing is. We have great sounding native plug ins... I jet do not see a reason to buy more UAD plug ins. The GUI satisfies the acquisition syndrome in us. And 'proven' pieces promise us 'professional' sounds for 'better' mixes so we follow suit and don't do the work and listen for ourselves. But that's just the cynic in me talking. I'm guilty as sin. Note to self...

I thought I would use the plugs on the way in, but I never do. I guess it's nice to have that option. I do use the AUX channel for verb though. I never fully understood the use in doing that. You couldn't use a digital limiter, let's say, to help clipping the da since it's already been converted. So printing effects on the way in is just commiting to something you are already going to do to save processing power later in the mix. Or run confidence effects for singers etc. I guess that's cool, a little bit.

Thinking about jumping on the uad wagon. I'm willing to wait for the next generation dsp accelerators.
My question is have they established an update cycle? When was the current gen released?
Thanks!!!!!!!!

This kind of thing seems so much more complicated when you have to talk about it. Super simple when you can just show someone.

You can get a nice synergy like that sometimes; I use Grado PS 500s and Amphion one 15s - good combo. Cheers, Ross Yeah, it would be cool if there was a service/website that matched up headphones and speakers so that people would have a good transition from speaker to headphones. Glad you found yours too. www.sonarworks.com/These guys do good work. Your headphones are on their list too.

I just rewired my control room yesterday. That's not exactly a fun job. I had to do it if I wanted to use the new gear I have amassed over the past 6 months. I'm really stoked to have things well organized and all hooked up. Thought I'd share with some of the only people that can appreciate the work. This was before. Moved my Tascam 388 to another room. Not using it. Probably sell sometime shortly. Still a bunch of unracked la4's, 8 raw am16's, 2 601's, a few altec mixers, dbx compressors. Just not enough rack space/cabling. I'll get there. It is much more workable for now though.

it's deciding to work sometimes... it really is finicky though. i guess it's not a big big deal. to the sellers credit it does go in and out. seems to react better to the api than the neve phantom. probably just coincidence. this mic did not like being shipped is my guess.
it's nylon. i am having shannon put original brass caps in them. second one is otw. im confident he can address the weird hpf issue on this one.
thanks eric btw for the recommendation of shannon. i think you were the first person to mention that i send my 269 to him, and im glad i did. super nice guy. got to spend some time with him and really enjoyed it.

Just received this. Sounds great, but . . . Hpf switch creates massive distortion when activated to either 75 or 150. Listed as 'all switches tested' so asking for a partial/full refund... Ebay...

My thinking is to have a more neutral speaker. If the bottom end of my speaker is super tight and punchy it won't make me work harder to get it punchier when I am mixing. I'm happy with my Ns10's and one 18's.
Please offer counter points.

You know where I heard about these was a video posted on this forum. It was the Vance Powell recording rock video. The guitar solo had a Sputnik on it. When I heard the sound of that thing I was doomed.
