A recent post mentioned the Skibbe 500 series près that are based on a Flickinger console. That got me digging out my Sparklehorse cds, and posting here.
So any info about these is welcome. Anybody here ever work on one? Know if the one in Michigan ever sold (there is a thread here which does mentions it's for sale and a bit of Flickinger info), and what happened to Mark Linkous's? Are there any others still in one piece?
And mostly what made them special. For what is sometimes called the best sounding console ever there isn't that much info about them out there.
Cheers, Geoff

Mark Linkous died. I don't remember the cause, but it was way too early. The Skibbe site had some interesting background info on Flickingers. An internet search should yield more. Montrose Recording has a bit of info on their site, too, I think. They own Mark's old board. I learned some things about Flickingers from the other RGO thread that I didn't know. Emrr has some technical knowledge he shared.
I think the Skibbe site had a list of surviving Flickingers. Maybe there are eight or so in various statuses around the world?

Sparklehorse is so good. Those are some records that definitely have a signature sound. I'm sure it has less to do with the flickengers...What a great talent. I'd love to read more about those recordings.
His records are high art. The sonic palette makes me have synesthesia.
some records are hyper-realistic snapshots of the best possible version of everything being played. Then there are records like kid a, it's a wonderful life, the downward spiral, sgt pepper, loveless, a soft bulletin, etc, that just are their own entire universe. they take you there and wrap their arms around your mind.

Yeah, Mark definitely had his own thing going. He is sadly missed. Cheers, Geoff
