yes, there are comments from Caustix about problems with MBP, I thought ? People only seem to complain about price in that thread.

I'm a big RME UFX+ fan, so the UFX II would be my suggestion. I love the redundant backup recording for remote gigs and the drivers are very solid. I've outfitted three studios with them, and use one personally.

Take it with a huge grain of salt, I know there are fans. I helped someone get some WB pre's and comps wired up once, and they were ok, but didn't sound great. They kinda sounded like they needed all the caps shotgunned, they resembled a lot of other early cap heavy SS I've rebuilt that sounded very grainy and indistinct before a total cap job, with big improvements in clarity after a cap job. A late-70's Audix broadcast console I had sounded sorta the same. So whatever you do, factor that thought into your total possible rehab cost. Maybe it'll sound fine as-is if it's been maintained. They have a decently solid build quality for their era, kinda 'broadcast tough'. Definitely test drive if you can first. Thank you, Doug. I'm lucky in that I'll have it gone through a tech before I receive it. I'm unlucky, in that I won't have a chance to listen, as it's in Canada. I'll have to ask some more thorough questions about what service will be done before I take the plunge. I appreciate the heads up!

Hi, all.
I may have the opportunity to pickup a WBS console with 12 channels of 480C pres/eqs.
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with theses consoles, and these pre/eq modules. I'd love to get some opinions.
Thank you! Tommy

Does anyone have any experience with these TwinFlicks or any other Flickinger pres and clones?

I just coordinated my first purchase from John for a studio I work with. Excellent experience! He was able to source a second hand product when the manufacturer was backordered.
I will certainly be buying from him again, whether it be on behalf of myself or others!
Thanks again, John.

Speaking as the buyer of the 737 from John, I can say it's going into a studio that does primarily voiceover work. I think it excels at that duty with it's low noise and generally clean sound, while still imparting a bit of "warmth" to the signal. When all you're listening to is a voice, that low noise profile makes a big difference. The compressor could be faster, yes, but I've had some great luck with vocalists who have a smooth and even sound. Here's one example: soundcloud.com/pavel-rivera-1/remind-me-again-tonal-balanced-mstr-1The DI really works well on bass guitar, as mentioned earlier.

I would be game for this.... I would make this work. I would also be game for a group buy. 1 for sure, if not two.

No, I don't think that those particular artists' records are exemplary of a pushed input, but it's nice to have.
Regarding what's inscrutable - it's always helpful when something is quoted. Thank you for clarifying your question.

Hi, folks. I've been looking for that Sly Stone and Sparklehorse Flickinger sound for some time. Most especially a preamp that has an output attenuator or fader that would allow me to push the inputs with ease. The Skibbe pres look great, but don't have the output fader or a line input options. Then I came across this: www.cathedralguitar.com/Auction/Flickinger/TwinFlicks3/TwinFlicksHI.htmlAnyone familiar with Cathedral Guitar or the tech that may have put them together? Thank you! Tommy

I've been experimenting with a Placid Audio RU-80 that I picked up recently. It takes care of a bit of the distortion and eq on the way in, though I do recommend copious amounts of compression.

Fantastic replies, thank you everyone! I'm definitely getting a pair of A-Designs EM-PEQ, and I still have to make up my mind on the next purchase. Probably a pair of Chromas, but which color module? Ah, decisions, decisions... If you're after the "console" sound, I highly recommend the Royal Blue or Mass Drivr. I'm more partial to the Royal Blue Module, but both are great. I've also been thinking about an additional pair with the tape sim from DIYRE, for a little of that vibe.

I love my 6 LTL Chroma pres. They're loaded with pairs of Implode, Royal Blue, and Mass Drivr module and get used on everything from classical to pop music. Highly recommended as they're so versatile.
I also like my Rascal Audio Two-V a lot. It has a great "weight" to it, but can be colored or fairly clean and clear.

Not very portable, but an excellent idea. (I should've specified portability in my original post.) This would be great for studio use and backups. Thank you!

I hear there is one in Chile ! HA! I do some work for a few voiceover studios, so I'm trying to find out how the three compare, as the SA87 would be a nice price point to hit for some of my clients. If anyone has a lead, please let me know. Cheers, Tommy

Don't forget the dongle for your dongle. #nothingButUSBC Yeah, that's one of the reasons for the Hub.

Hi, everyone.
I'm about to pickup a new MBP for recording/composition.
I think I'll need:
- Hard Drive for Sample Libraries - Hard Drive for recording - Hub
Portability is key. Since I'll need to plugin an iLok for Pro Tools/plugins, USB midi, and an audio interface, I'll need the hub.
Any suggestions are welcome!
Thank you, Tommy
