Hi, all.
The title says it all. I'm looking to shootout an SA-87 with an U87AI and vintage U87 for voiceover. Does anyone have a lead?
Thank you!

He HAS been busy. I wonder what sonic characteristics it has compared to the usual suspects.

Hi, everyone.
Here's the second piece I mentioned before:
Here I used the Chromas in A mode to record the piano, vibraphone and room mics. Much brighter and faster transient pickup compared to the last piece I recorded, "China Gates."
Let me know what you think!
Cheers, Tommy

tapping into the inputs breaks the rear connection. tapping into the outputs does NOT break the rear connection. Thank you for the reply! So I can essentially use Preamp in Slot 1 and have it's output run dry into my DAW and tap the output on the front to go into a compressor/reverb/etc for a second effected signal with no loss?

raddistribution If you tap the audio signal on the front of the rack, does it stop the signal flow to the rear connections?

I've been waiting for this one since the first images surfaced online. I'm hoping the psu and audio signals are as quiet as my API 6B-HC.

Hi, everyone. Sorry it's taken a bit for me to post this, but it's now out. I used my six Chromas in N mode for this contemporary classical piece: Spotify: Apple: itunes.apple.com/us/album/china-gates-single/1325824867I'm working on another piece with the same pianist, but including a vibraphonist. I used the A mode on that recording. It should be out early next year. Please let me know what you think. Tommy

Not a true LDC, very clean sounding vocal mic, but the one thing about this mic is that it almost sounds like it has a built in gate, that cuts the noise and the tail of acoustic instruments that can be annoying. Still while I would never suggest it as the centerpiece of ones mic locker unless it's the perfect fit for someone's voice, it's a unique mic that I personally would buy knowing what it brings to the party. To be honest, "a built in gate" doesn't sound like something I'd want. I'd likely want to use these for acoustic instruments. Thank you for the perspective!

Hi, all.
I have the opportunity to pick up a couple of Beyerdynamic MC834 mics. I'm wonder who's used them and what impressions you might have with them. They'd be a cleaner mic than what I have in my locker at the moment.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Cheers, Tommy

I like both the P1 and the original. The P1 sounds a bit faster and more flat. The original seems to be a bit slower on the transients and rounder in the mids.

I ended up with 6, drbill . I'm rebuilding my recording setup and preamp collection from scratch with these. I may end up with another two, if I can get the money before the end of the preorder period. So far, I've got 2 implode, 2 massdrivr, and 2 Fet Filters. I'm going to recommend two Rogue-Tec Airs so you have all your bases covered. Although for drum tracking another two FET Filters could be killer. Two set to 330 Hz cut, and two set to 500 Hz cut. That's probably how I would do it. Brad Thank you for the suggestion, Brad. I'm thinking about two of the Pentodes, actually. I've been searching for saturation options, so this seems like a good route. If you had an N flavored MassDrivr, I'd likely go with that. Then again, we'll see what cooks with the Fet Filters I've got.

I am! Its gospel at this point. Been using Coles 4038s almost daily for 20+ years - i never thought ANYTHING could replace it - until the Stagers came along. Put them next to a Coles - they're bigger, Put 'em next to an AEA (any model)- the AEA will sound scooped and thin. We pretty much established this in the first 10 seconds of our little event in Nashville the other day using one great tube preamp and a single SR-1A over a drum kit - the result was jaw dropping. Do you feel similarly about the Stager SR-2N?

This seems like a great deal for a little dirt and modulation. $29 seems like a no brainer. I just picked it up.

Right? The summing/2 bus feature makes this a pretty versatile 500 series chassis. That I could patch in a mono tape echo on the L and a spring on the R channels for tracking, and later sum through the 2bus is really attractive. Anyone try using the summing outputs for effects?

Has anyone pulled the trigger on one of these?
I'm thinking of packing one with 8 mic pres and using the individual channel outputs and using the summed L+R as an aux for mono effects. It seems like it could be a great mini mixer.

Is there a way to power the CAPI rack without the larger dual floor psu? I'm looking for something a bit more portable for location recording. Sure, if you want (unexpected, at the least opportune moment) problems down the line. The power supply is NOT the place to cut corners. You're trying to tell us that you can't carry one more smallish rack unit? Really? You kids* are spoiled these days. You should have seen all the stuff we used to have to haul around for field work. * - this term is relative I'm unsure why you're using that language and tone. I still think my question is a legitimate one. Is there a specific reason there can't be a reliable power supply that is smaller, and more portable?

Here we go. 4 Chromas ordered with 2 Mass Drivr and 2 Implode Colour modules. If they arrive before the 15th, I'll be using them for a lead vocal session for a folk/rock band. Feel free to use my referral link: r.sloyalty.com/r/vCtCIA2ywEHTI'll be keeping my eyes open for the "N" flavored Mass Drivr towards the end of the summer. And maybe another pair? Whew.
