@johnkenn, what are your impressions of the samples?

I have no idea what preamp that C is, but I'm guessing that A is the 511 and B is the Chroma.
I can't distinguish the edit points in the medley.

Quick listen and think B and C are the same. I preferred B over A. jcoutu1, can you describe what you like about B versus A?

It's always cool to hear other's perspectives. A and B sounded the most similar to me, with C being slightly different - almost a bit more "open" to me. All sound great, however.

So at first I thought A had more low end and B and C had more tightening in low freq but I keep listening and I cannot tell a sizable diference. Agreed, I can't tell a sizable difference. Looking forward to the answers.

BradM, really cool to hear more about the MassDrivr! When you do you guess the preorder units will ship?

BradM and drbill , How long will the preorder be open? I have a few invoices being paid out next Friday.

Thank you, BradM. Will there be sound samples of the Chroma and Colour Modules prior to the preorder? Checked out the Quick Start. Very easy to follow.

Thank you drbill. The MassDrivr seems along the lines of the "weight" I'm looking to add. I sure wish there was an "N" flavored xformer/amp for the slot. Maybe in the future. Either way, I appreciate your take on the modules. Looking forward to hearing more as it developes. Cheers, Tommy

As it gets closer to release, I had a question for BradM and drbill: what's been your experience driving the input of both the A and N amps into saturation? Do they sound distinctly different and betray the "flavor" they're modeled after? I'm hoping to pick up four channels upon the release date. Still not sure what Colour modules to fill them with. Any favorites for tracking? Cheers, Tommy

These are great compressors, I've built several of them. The updated 'A' version is easier to build too. A lot of people say they prefer them to LA3As... I'm getting ready to build a Serpent SA-3A, so I'll compare... To me the LA500a sounds fairly transparent, but it adds a nice low/low mid thickness. You have to hit it pretty hard for the compression to be noticeable. The side chain options are really useful, as is the slow attack mode for bass. You do have to calibrate the metering, which is a tad fiddly, as with any compressor. Just make sure you let them warm up for a good hour before you calibrate. Otherwise the meter will drift a little. mdmitch2 - Did you ever compare the LA500A to the Serpent SA-3A?

Hi, everyone. I recently picked up a pair of Oktava MK-13 tube mics, but they didn't come with a shock mount. Anyone have thoughts as to what might work? Many thanks! Tommy

jeromemason Do you find yourself using the EQP5 only for stereo material, or have you tried them out on singular instruments as well?

For those of you interested in the transformer-coupled version, what differences do you expect when compared to the transformer-less?

BradM : Is there any plan to make a Mass Drivr with a British line amp, to contrast the American version?

Question for you guys: For those of you interested in acquiring Chroma... Do you envision yourself pulling the 500 series module in and out of your rack to swap analog plugin (Colour) modules regularly? Or do you think you'll just install a Colour module when you first buy the unit and then just set it and forget it? thanks, Brad I'd likely experiment in the beginning, but would probably settle eventually. At the moment, I'm thinking a pair with the FET Filter, and a pair with the Implode module. Then again, one of the best things about the Chroma is that you can switch things up whenever you need some inspiration or if your workflow changes! Looking forward to these! Great chatting with you today, Brad!

I ordered a pair, can't wait to build them. If you give me some sort of cliff's notes on confirming the stereo capabilities, EmRR , I'd be happy to test for you. Anyone know what the doa/transformer add on cost will be? at least this'll reduce sticker shock in a few months. It'll also give me more stuff to build Looks like it'll start at $50 if you provide your own DOA and goes up to $89: www.diyrecordingequipment.com/products/eqp5-vintage-output-bundle?variant=35249434959

I haven't tried out an echoplex in person, though I've heard them live a few times. I'll have to keep my eyes open for a deal.
Thank you all for the input!

Hi, all.
I'm looking in for a hardware tape delay to integrate into my setup. Is anyone using something modern, e.g. T-Rex Replicator or Space Case? Or should I be looking for something on the older side, like a space echo?
Is there anything else out there I should keep my eyes on? Looking for sound first and reliability second.
Cheers! Tommy

I've been thinking about getting a boxed set of these. Has anyone used the Green on drums? Does it distort fairly quickly? I'm thinking 2 Green, 2 Blue, and one Red for drums and room mics.
