So, if you was to go for one what spec would you get? There's been murmuring all the six cores are throttling around 3.5GHZ so it doesn't matter which one you choose bar the base clock rate. The other throttling issues apparently have been fixed via firmware.
If that is the case I'm not sure if the I9 would be worth it?
Id probably go for the 512GB NVME then buy a TB SSD for extra storage, finally stock it with 32GB RAM.

Yeah, didn't really give much in the way of specifics although I've heard Bluetooth and Siri cause really weird DPC spikes. High Sierra added extra Kernel security features for Thunderbolt devices, it essentially blocked the driver so updates were needed.
Also same as PC the TB3 to TB2 adapters are like closing your eyes and picking out a Revel choccie, finally the latest Macbooks only come with 4TB ports which some display adapters didn't work properly over display port.. Plus the adapters are quite expensive.!
Well, I'm doing a good job selling myself on one of these ..!

I will go for the 15’ 2,2ghz one, best value, at least if you put any faith in the benchmarks. The 2018 ones are really good upgrades, best ones since 2012 imho.

That thread only pointed out problems with the Dell, apart from the fact that the new MBPs were expensive? Or did I miss something?

yes, there are comments from Caustix about problems with MBP, I thought ? People only seem to complain about price in that thread.

I don't want to start a war MC vs PC. around me, 95% of the one that i work with in the music use MAC, agree it's expensive, it's not just performance and banchmark that count. Are you happy with your computer, do they perform what you ask it to do, PC or MAC as long as your happy. On my side i use a MBP for more that 15 years and Happy with it.
P.S. that UA tread only show the one who's complain about there PC....... I rest my case, !!!!!!

I'm about to get the broken display repaired on my mid 2012 15" MacBook Pro Retina. Cost $970 AUD from Apple. It's the only option if I want a genuine display with a warranty. It's an i7 2.7Ghz with 16gigs RAM and proper connectivity ie. 2x USB 3.0, 2x Thunderbolt, HDMI, SD Card slot etc. I just can't stomach the latest MB's only fitted with USB-C ports requiring $200 worth of overpriced dongles!!

I couldn't agree more and did the same thing with my 2012 15" MBP I7 and refurbed a couple of things verses taking the $ plunge into New MBP territory for the same reasons.

I saw an "all-in-one" dongle for the new MBP's that had 2X USB / HDMI / SD Micro etc. etc. for £30.00 and it got 4.5 star reviews, so not the end of the world especially as I've found places selling the new MBP 2.6GHZ six core / 16GB / 512NVME for £2300.00..
IMO Windows was unbeatable when PCI-E was a major player with Windows 7/8, it's lightning quick / stable and powerful. It's a shame that everyone dumped the PCI-E route.. Sure, there are some still about although generally "bespoke" either being digital connectors, limited I/O or very old conversion quality you WOULD actually notice.

I've got a "tweener" 2014 MacBook Pro 15", still has 2xUSB, 2xTB2, HDMI but no ethernet, no optical drive, non-upgradeable RAM, etc. I only use one TB2 port regardless.
Everything is connected to a CalDigit TB Station 2, MOTU 16A on TB2, 34" ultrawide on HDMI, audient console/controller over ethernet, RAID1 enclosure on eSATA, and three USB3 ports for iLok, DVD-burner, external drives etc. I unplug one cable to take the MBP, move the iLok to it's USB and plug phones in to edit on the couch at home. It would suck if I needed a dongle just to get iLok/phones connected, but otherwise I vastly prefer leaving all the big stuff connected to a dock.

Cool it's not really a "dongle" as such, it's an expansion adapter:

Received the Mac today, went for the FreeGene adapter which was slightly cheaper than the one I showed on amazon and had better reviews.. It works absolutely fine, just a bit of a tight fit initially.. As for the Mac itself, bar the keyboard that's taking a bit of adjusting to it's great. Super silent, powerful and light although it can get a little hot at times. Nothing to complain about here. We'll see how things go with Logic / UA Apollo..

Keep us in the loop on how well the adaptor works. I'm interested to see how the bus powered hubs perform with audio interfaces and high volume data. Cheers!

TBH I doubt I'd use it for that, charging? Maybe, I'll be sticking the interface on it's own TB port.. What I really needed was a variable input expansion unit and it's doing the job just fine.. I'll try it for giggles though..
