Hi, all.
I may have the opportunity to pickup a WBS console with 12 channels of 480C pres/eqs.
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with theses consoles, and these pre/eq modules. I'd love to get some opinions.
Thank you! Tommy

Take it with a huge grain of salt, I know there are fans. I helped someone get some WB pre's and comps wired up once, and they were ok, but didn't sound great. They kinda sounded like they needed all the caps shotgunned, they resembled a lot of other early cap heavy SS I've rebuilt that sounded very grainy and indistinct before a total cap job, with big improvements in clarity after a cap job. A late-70's Audix broadcast console I had sounded sorta the same. So whatever you do, factor that thought into your total possible rehab cost. Maybe it'll sound fine as-is if it's been maintained. They have a decently solid build quality for their era, kinda 'broadcast tough'. Definitely test drive if you can first.

I'm lucky in that I'll have it gone through a tech before I receive it. I'm unlucky, in that I won't have a chance to listen, as it's in Canada. I'll have to ask some more thorough questions about what service will be done before I take the plunge. I appreciate the heads up!

Had some MM441s at my old place, they’re in a commercial room I sometime book now but I haven’t reached for them in a long time. I remember they were pretty solid but didn’t blow anyone away w/ AM16s, Quad Eights and a TG2 also in the room. I’ll have to revisit them some time.

I don’t believe those have output transformers in them. IC mixed with discrete transistors, if I recall. Some folks really love them.

Sort of like, the Canadian MCI, no? I believe that Canadian is Ward Pike (not Ward Beck), eh?
