Just hooked this mic up at the shop and initial testing is very favorable! Great build quality, attention to detail on it is excellent! I think the sound is very nice. Its not overly bright, but it has that wonderful presence and air. Nice bottom end and silky tone. I am looking forward to putting it through the paces, (after my client takes it for a whirl around the block) --- sometimes I hear stuff and think certain people I know will love it.
Any of you guys get your hands on this mic yet? For $750, it seems like a great deal for what you get.

In this interview, Dave Way seems to love it as well. (starts at 1:00:46)
I really want to try it.

It also handled louder transients really nicely, I could tell it has some "cushion" to it as a voice goes from a whisper to a roar. And the bright but creamy tone might make it nice for overheads or a piano. Sorta c12/251'ish

Man... there are so many nice mics in the 700-1200 dollar range these days. Good times!

Where is the V-13 manufactured, out of curiosity?

Says its designed in USA and final aseemby is in California. So maybe my opinion might be a bit like Miktek stuff.

I have two of 'em. I got 'em from Warren at Zen Pro Audio.
I was calling around to talk to some guys to see what they thought would be great for my particular needs. I wanted a vocal mic that would flatter voices, could take some loud stuff, but would be super useful in other situations. I don't have the budget for anything that's too specialized. I also needed something good for drum overheads - I'm not particularly fond of my SDC selections (cheap M-Audio Pulsar IIs) and my only other mics I really have for that usage are Fatheads. I have some AKG Perception 400 LDCs that do a fine enough job but one is intermittently wonky. Not what I want to deal with. Plus I like the Fatheads for rooms.
I got a lot of people saying "if you could only spend $XXX.xx more..." You know how it goes. Some Mojave recommendations. Some Audio Technica recommendations.
The most often recommended were some Warm Audio mics. I called Warren to see if he had something to recommend. He's been super helpful in the past and I trust him and his Clipalator.
He goes "Those Warms are good, but you need to try these Vanguard V13s if you need something that'll do well for vocals but can also really be nice on a drum kit or in front of an acoustic. To my surprise, a pair of the Vanguards were cheaper than a pair of the Warm Audios.
I listened, I read up, and I purchased.
I'm super pleased with 'em so far. I don't have the first-hand experience with classic mics, a bunch of studio standards, or the latest and greatest, but I do like 'em. They give me something my 4040 doesn't on vocals and drums - V13s aren't as hard-sounding as the 4040 in the situations I've tried 'em...they're more flattering - and they do a lot better than my SDCs at giving me punchy drum sounds for rock stuff as either overheads or rooms (when Fatheads aren't right).

Awesome! I had the Warm 87 up next to the V-13, and it didn't really give it a run for the money

I just got their stereo mic. I've only used it to record a practice so far, but I like what I'm hearing. Not crazy bright or anything. Nice package overall. For the price, it's a no-brainer.
I spoke with one of the owners on the phone for a while before I bought it. Seems like a good guy and clearly loves what he's doing.
