That makes sense. Charlie Karp was the guitarist and in photos from that time he was playing an LP.

I love this guitar tone. Reminds me a little of CSNY Woodstock. I reached out to the guy who played it for Buddy Miles but he wasn't giving up any info. Doesn't seem like a Strat. I'm guessing from the period a FuzzFace and a wah. Maybe a LesPaul? Tele?

Which Inner tube U87 mod do you have?T he Inner Tube mod has changed over the years. It started out as a cathode follower circuit. I heard the more recent incarnations are not as good.

For LDC microphones nothing beats a vintage Neumann. If you get a good one there is something about their engineering that no other mic captures. I've owned nearly every 47 clone short and long body Neumann U47s and at the end of the day the mic you will will have to pry out of my dead hands is a vintage 1976 U87 that just happens to be the best vintage U87 I have ever owned and I've been through 4 of them over the years. Nothing beats a good Neumann or a good Neve.

oh why not; nice slow hand solo !! super tight for live !! This guy's voice just gets better with time. I can't think of a single young artist today with pipes like this.

Facebook removed "Recording Studio" when their programmers couldn't figure out what one was over their Vegan lunch buffet in the Menlo Campus.

I've always been curious about the NPNGs. In some of the shootouts I heard the detail and character was super noticeable. I have always wondered if that pre "caught on" as a vocal channel to compete with Martech, Avalaon, and a 1073 or if it had found more of a place on orchestral and stringed applications.

Wow that's a steal. They are $2,000-$2,400 today. I honestly like the slightly tighter sound of the more affordable silverface.

Definitely a darker shade, it will make the room look bigger, and it will have a more relaxing vibe as it's a color the mind expects. Look at most classic studio floors and they are darker than the walls, and sometimes have darker oriental rugs on them etc. like Indiehouse's avatar above.

Sorry I have to disagree with Martin too. The best John's voice has ever sounded (like a lot of guys) is this 1073 and Wunder CM7. Attachment Deleted"I open doors to places..." doesn't get harsh or pokey in his register as some of his other mics have.

Wow this is some pretty serious gear for a live rig. Not surprised by some of the pieces, just the quantity and depth of gear.

Tony Campbell told me I could get my SM7 to sound just as good if I leave it in my freezer with a bottle of Russian Vodka for a week. I'll do a shootout with domestic vodkas as well, they might impart more air...

Thanks I will skip the 75 SR. I had a feeling it's price revealed some sort of shortcoming. I found a 1964 Blackface pre CBS for a small fortune but it's all original and sounds ridiculous.

I get a bunch of backline requests for the Supro Jupiter, Fender Super Reverb, Hot Rod Deville. There is a Super Jupiter locally for $900 I'm thinking of grabbing, and a 75 Super Reverb for the same price. I will obviously try both, just curious on any feedback from players here.

The AMS DPD with digital converters is one of the best units I have ever owned (without EQ) and the digital converters are great. If this is that unit with EQ and other features I'll buy one.

The kids know it is stripped down and raw, like some fat girls fighting in the restrooms at the mall.... but they connect with that (especially on the high school level) as being "in the moment" and relevant to their peer group. Thye know it's not production or composition at the level of other previous pop stars they know (Katy Perry etc.) but they learn from the peer group that this is the "street sound" of the moment. Even Taylor Swift has dipped her toe into this production aesthetic with "Look What You Made Me Do". Then all of this is an overlay on top of a general degradation of grammar, manners, and general decorum. There is absolutely a "coarsening of America" taking place. And while you can obviously point to hip hop culture as a major influence on that you also can't leave out the behavior of our corporate leaders, and politicians, who have contributed to this just as pervasively.

These are just people punching the clock, taking the road of least resistance to a paycheck. There are still wonderful musicians out there making great records, compositionally, and sonically. And tons of fans whom appreciate it. This other stuff is just garbage and most people don't pay for it, don't remember it, and don't "care". It's just passing noise, like a jingle on TV.

Thank's for the music Tom. You were a once in a lifetime talent. No one could strum a guitar and write a song like you could! The kids love you today as much as they did in the 80s. You are timeless brother!

Not sure there is a "songwriting demo business" anymore. You might want a reality check on that before you sell all your gear at a loss.
