Hey Guys, I'm planning to paint the cement floor in my live room. It's currently painted a slightly yellowish tan and was probably done years ago. I want to freshen up the room. The wall carpeting is a lightish blue. What color would you guys go with?

Would it be feasible cost-wise to polish back to original cement? I like that industrial look myself.
Tell me about the history of this room? Live room looking towards the control room?

Yep, this is the live room looking towards the control. Here are a few pics from when I toured the space. imgur.com/a/wWSHFMy understanding is that the space was purpose built about 30 years ago. Everything is dated, including the build techniques (wall capeting, dark pine, stone). The entire space is a room inside a room though, so the isolation is pretty good. Basically, it seems like it was an open warehouse type space that they building the studio inside of. In the back of the live room are 2 small amp closets. In the rear of the control room is an iso booth (or semi isolation at least). There is a nice iso/airlock room between the live room and the hall leading to the control room and lounge. There are channels behind the walls to walk through/run cables/etc. The control room has a false floor around the outer edge to run cables through the floor. Rear pine diffusion wall in the control room. Speaker soffits. Polished concrete sounds like a great option, but I think it'll be too expensive. Can't hurt to look into though.

Polish is out unfortunately. $2-$6/sqft. More than I can spend. I'm hoping paint can look decent since it's cheap and I can do it myself.

Can you match a color in the stone wall?

I’d use a few different colors for an industrial look. A medium to dark grey solid coat, and then use a sponge to rub grey, blue, rust or gold in swoosh patterns all over. Then a clear coat on top. I had a friend that did in his salon and it looked awesome.

Get a palette/color fan from your local paint store, match the carpet color by eye, and then choose a shade one or more steps lighter on the same strip.

My moms ex had that on his garage floor. Meh. Has a real Autozone vibe. Unless maybe that's your niche? Get yer oil changed while you record your demo?

Definitely a darker shade, it will make the room look bigger, and it will have a more relaxing vibe as it's a color the mind expects. Look at most classic studio floors and they are darker than the walls, and sometimes have darker oriental rugs on them etc. like Indiehouse's avatar above.

Do not keep it similar to the brick wall, it's already close in color, and it looks dated that way. I've worked with some world famous designers and architects, and I think I can help. First, don't be afraid to paint the stone wall, it should be white, like the ceiling but even whiter, not so creamy. Having three or four different shades of white keeps the eye interested, but maintains the effect of making the space feel larger. Second you have to change the grey carpet on the wall. If it has to be carpet, choose a more modern color, like a deep dark orange, or indigo blue. If it works sonically, it would be cool to have diffusers occupy the space of the rugs, and look way more custom built. Third, paint or stain the floor a dark walnut. Ideally, the floor should be white, but you'd need a really good sealer, and you'd have to clean it once a day. That would look outstanding. It's great room. If you want to go an extra mile, paint the ceiling beams white. Beams are unconsciously threatening overhead, I call it fuckshui, eliminating them from standing out will make the space instantly more comfortable. Look at the difference having the darker floor makes here, one looks OK, the other crisp, modern, and ready for business: Attachments:

I would match the lightish blue carpet on the walls for the floor I suggest the same thing. Maybe sand the wood on the walls back to natural wood color too.

I’d probably match it too. That’s just what my eye wants to see there.

I think I'm going to do a dark grey with some black and silver flecks in it. Similar to this rendering.

I'm sure the space sounds lovely, but personally I can't get over that grey carpet on the wall....IMO that is really dating the space in a bad way and limiting your color options floorwise; since you're redoing the floor maybe redo the walls too/ give it all a total update? Whatever floats your boat though!

Have you thought of Burnt Orange, Jesse? With some swirl variations in it. I feel like we always try to get recording spaces too dark. I just painted my space blue. I got tired of feeling like I was in a dungeon when I walked in. Wanted something cheery. After all, this is my happy place.

Whatever floats your boat though! Yep, I agree about the carpet on the wall, but I'm stuck with it. Can't afford to replace it and want to keep the budget low (especially since it's a rental as EmRR mentioned). I bought some fabric paint to test, changing the color, but I wasn't satisfied with the results, so the carpet is staying as is. I need to embrace it. I have a decent set of up lights though, and I think that'll add some nice vibe and hide the ugly carpet a bit. The floor though, does look pretty shitty as is, but the uplighting and a couple throws might be enough.
