This honestly looks like a demo and writing setup. If I was more of an artist I’d probably get one to plug into the laptop and bring with me on trips along with a couple of cheap mics to put some ideas down.
I don’t think it’s much more than that.
Now, would it make more sense to get a UA arrow? I guess it depends on if you’re already into the ya family of products.

Can you imagine a company putting out a tape machine? That would be insanity in today’s market. I mean let’s be honest, most “engineers” that are coming up can barely plug in a microphone, and the ones that can are too lazy to want or use a patch bay...
The future is scary!
It’s gotta be some sort of emulation. UA is really good at that and it’s their bread and butter. They just came out with new interfaces so I can’t see them revealing some new one with built in summing. That wouldn’t line up production wise and wouldn’t make sense to alienate the people who just purchased the X series stuff. They would flood the market with used boxes that have only been out for a year.

I’m happy with what Jeff does by putting the “signal present” led on his mic pres. Other than that, as far as mic preamps go, you can basically just listen or you have the metering in the daw. Switchable input, gr, and output meters on compressors are much more important as you can see what your feeding into the front end of that gear.
The Lola’s have switchable ppm/vu LED’s on the front panel, but honestly they don’t make much sense to me.
I’m not a huge fan of blinking lights on gear, definitely hate things like the above/below threshold on the dbx 160. Sooo distracting.

I never install the licenses for plugs on the system when I can avoid it. I’d much rather have my ilok and then another usb flash drive that has all my installers on it. If something ever happens, all I do is put the ilok in a new machine, install the plugs, and I’m up and running again in no time. 2 dongles and piece of mind!
I think there was 1 day a few years ago where the entirety of ilok went down but they had everything back up and running in like 6 or 7 hours. It’s the only time I’ve had them stumble in 15 years or so of dealing with it.

Very cool - wish they enabled some sort of computer control though. That would make it a buy for me.

What if it was some sort of HDX Card system that had the benefits of a PT HDX system, plus an octo card built in, and summing built into the interface like an SSL Sigma?

How about UA just buys Pro Tools and brings it up to speed?

Bringing this thread back to life as I am giving these a hard look. Those of you who use them, how often do you use the different models via the switcher? I was all excited for that switch and the modeling - turns out when I first got them I was spending more time screwing around with the different settings than just learning the speaker. I unplugged it and put it back in the box so I wouldn’t be tempted by it. I’ve pulled it out a few times and hooked it up only to realize that I’d rather just have my set of ns10’s up to check against instead of using the modeled ns10’s. The barefoots seem to be messing with phase response on the auratone and 10 settings and it never sat right with me. Still working on my room as with the low end of the barefoots I’m getting a pretty serious node from 80 - 120hz. When I bring them to the studio they are perfect though - so I’d check to see if you can get a pair in your room as a demo to see how they work for you.
Also just to add, some of my buddies do heavier rock music (Bring Me The Horizon, Sevendust, etc) and the Barefoots did NOT sound great for that application. They are hard to listen to with those heavier distorted guitars. The mid bump is just too much and they were unpleasant. They work great for me though with what I do which generally has nothing more than an electric though a loud Deluxe Reverb

.. what? Go line in? I'm using my console pre amps. API. SO much gain! With a 67 you can go line in or just go right into a compressor if the source is loud enough. Sounds pretty awesome right into a comp like a Ba-6a

I think it comes down to the guitar/string choice/player combo. I don’t really get the squeak on my 000-18 with the strings I use. Maybe I just changed my playing to make sure it doesn’t happen.
Give me a Taylor with some new strings and I’m squeeking all over.

I think Melodyne is still the best if you are really good at using it to its full potential.
It amazes me how much I can hear the tuning on vocals coming out of Nashville these days. Almost like they don’t want it to sound natural or something. Just awful. If you know what you’re doing and take your time, you can make it sound natural.

Decided NOT to worry about the SSL Six and start researching summing boxes and other processors for mixing like the Silver Bullet. I still think you should get your hands on one before you give up on it entirely.

I find it really difficult to sit through those videos. I generally get bored after about 5 mins and completely lose interest.
I’ve saw Tchad Blake do an hour of the MWTM at Javits Center last year and really enjoyed that. Not sure I’d pay for a subscription for anybody else though.
I can’t get through the Eric Valentine videos either. I’m not sure what it is, the guy is a fantastic engineer and producer and I’m sure I’d learn a ton. I just can’t stand the presentation.

a few years ago a friend of mine acquired something similar to this from one of the Portland tv stations - www.preservationsound.com/2012/09/adm-consoles-of-the-1970-and-1980s/The station was upgrading their broadcast setup at the time changing to some newfangled digital setup and another friend of ours had the tear out job contract. The stations attitude was if you can dismantle this console and haul it out of here you can have it. Kind of awesome when this sort of thing happens... My pal has been building a control booth in his space and getting closer to finishing it up but meanwhile the ADM console and modules have been sitting there covered up in the corner and I would love to see it all get hooked up and do some tracking and mixing on this thing - so yes dreams do come true sometimes it just takes awhile I pulled a 12 channel ADM console out of a broadcast station about 4 months ago. Just about to get started reconfiguring it. I got one channel going and then pres and 4 band eq’s sound awesome. There were two other consoles that we didn’t have enough time to get out of there so I went in and pulled all of the pre/line-in cards and eq’s out. They are kinda piled up until we can figure out what to do with them.

How many guitars do you think Fender & Gibson sell because of the name on the headstock? It’s like I was Xmas shopping for the wife who is a huge Kate Spade fan ( she was a KC girl), I find it hilarious that you can pretty much buy the exact same bag at Target without the Kate Spade label for 1/8 the price! Probably made in the exact same factory, but that little label is worth 8 times the price!! It’s all about fashion! You gotta sign up for the Kate Spade mailing list around thanksgiving and get the sale emails. You can get all that stuff at like 70% off. Then promptly unsubscribe. Our wives have similar taste haha

Tbone, I hear ya. The thing is. If I do map to a players feel then it often feels a little awkward to overdub drums to it later. It often makes playing the drums to the “varied click” kind of a pain in the ass. I mean it is hard to play the drums in a verse and then (for me, and even if I know it’s coming) change the tempo by a certain bpm for the chorus or bridge / next part. Not saying it’s impossible. But it is often tough to get just right. And this is most often me working on my own material! Yeah I feel ya. Its always awkward adding drums after the fact. You could always record a scratch instrument track, tempo map it, quantize and/or setup varying tempos, record drums, erase click, and then re-record the instrument tracks. I love doing drums last. Allows me to play off of the vocal track.

My Stam mk1 pretty much only works smashing a rock drum bus for me. Other than that, the meter is weird, and def really isn’t the SSL Bus sound I was used to from using the consoles for years and years. Looking forward to giving some Audioscape gear a try in the future! I have a bunch of original's here and it sounds and compress the same so there is definitely something not right with yours I am happy to have fix this for you at no charge or replace it with a MK2 I made several thousands of these and there were some issues with a few of them on a small batch so it is possible that yours is among them It's an easy fix if you would like me to take care of it I’m actually fine with it for what I use it for. Thanks for the offer though. Merry Christmas to stam land.

1982 Is behind question the finest year of the Les Paul. Standards and customs. At least from all the ones I’ve owned/own. Which are 1955 56 57 59 60 70 75 79 80 81 82 83 85 87 90 92 95 99 2000 Damn what was wrong with the 59 and 60? Any chance you still have those?

No...but I’m looking for classic tones. Right on. There’s a lot of Strat style builders that are kicking ass. Danocaster, Mario Martin, K-Line, etc). Aside from the feel, there are some really great pickups that nail that classic sound (Budz, Rocketfire, Mark Foley, etc). I’ve been on a strat hunt for over a year. Finally decided just to build one and having Mario Martin (AKA Guitar Mill, Nashville) do the finishing. Danocaster is no longer taking orders and won’t be making any guitars after he fulfills what he has left. Big bummer I always wanted one and I’m sure those who have them are Going to be holding onto them now. John, i would figure out exactly what neck specs you like and go from there. Pickup swaps are easy, most bodies are pretty much the same. Neck shape, finish feel, fret size, and fret wire size and fingerboard radius are so much more important than anything else when you pickup a guitar. The Fender American Originals are nice. They can be had reasonably priced used if you keep a keen eye and are thrifty. I haven’t touched a new Les Paul in years ever since the charmbered body and robot tuner bs. I’ve got a late 70’s Standard that is amazing and I’d encourage you to check out used “not great” year les Paul’s because there are good ones out there. LOTS of turds though. I’m sure you’ll know a good one when you pick it up. I have heard good things about the new LP’s but haven’t had one in my hands.

JohnKenn messed me up a year or so ago by saying that a thin pick gives a thin sound. I had for maybe 40 years been exclusively using. 60mm orange Tortex on both acoustic and electric but began experimenting with both brands and thickness and fell into the rabbit hole of exploration, trying everything under the sun. I have now settled on this 1.5mm BlueChip as the end all and my personal favorite to use on acoustic guitar. I had bought a 1mm BlueChip 40 and dug it, lived with it for around 9 months and just bought this 60 used off of a nice fellow on UMGF (The Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum). For me it helps me dial in fantastic tone on all my instruments. I needed to file, sand and polish the tip as it blunted a tiny bit from the fellow I copped it from's time with it, and I have just ordered a shiny new one as a backup from the company. These are great picks that have no drag on the strings at all. They just flow over the strings without any clack. I'm in love with my car, got a feel for my automobile. Thanks JohnKenn!!! People think I’m nuts for the small wooden case of blue chips. Until they try one and then go on the site and order one for themselves. Also I’ve never lost a pick since I started using blue chips about 7 or 8 years ago. I like the 35 and 45 for guitar, and have the Thile mode for mando.
