Has anybody tried a hybrid setup of using the superior drums but then Micing up cymbals at the same time? Cymbal articulation is one thing that always leaves me scratching my head with superior and the like. Same with ghost notes on the snare but lots of folks don’t even play that inside sort of stuff.
Wiz, I just realized your voice is a total doppelgänger for Ed Roland of Collective Soul. I did some tunes with them last year and in his softer range your voices are dead on the same damn thing. Sounds great man.

The tech on eBay who builds these seems to be doubling the price? Seems a bit rich to me for something that probably doesn’t take him very long, So he’s getting over $100 usd per hour? I built mine before they had the newer kit. It took me quite some time. Granted I hadn’t done something like that before, but I wasnt a newb builder and had probably done 10 Lola’s and 10 capi pres at that point. Seems like with the newer ones, Mike has made it a bit easier to put together - plus you get all the parts. Have you considered trying to do it yourself?

It better not be one of those Chicago style pizzas. I don’t even know what to do with those things. Hey there guy, deep dish pizza is AMAZING so shut that mouth lol.....and a true chicago style pizza is a thin crust za TAVERN CUT into squares, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If you wanna debate if deep dish is indeed pizza that's another bag of worms entirely, but no matter how you slice it, it's delicious; I don't see the animosity over legitimacy when it comes to the increasingly popular Detroit style pizza either, and that's a damn rectangle!
Sorry, anyone else hungry? Hey man any style - I’m game. I literally just don’t know what to do with Chicago pizza. Pick it up and slop it over my beard? Fork and knife? Burn the roof of my mouth? I had great pizza last time I was in Louisville too. You gotta give it to the hipsters - they do a pretty good pizza game and it gets people away from Dominos at least!

There is a company based in Canada that is now sending out blasts to get songs. They want 5 years exclusive use and are paying 2k Canadian for both writing and publishing combined. It’s insane... I just ignore them at this point but you know damn sure they are getting bottom feeders to jump at the chance. Just crazy.... Actually.....$2k for a song is extreme high end these days. And 5 years is a LOT better than perpetuity. Many deals are $0 up front, 100% writers, and 0% publishers - in perpetuity. The deal you cited is a hell of a lot better as most songs will not collect $2k in royalties over 5 years. But yeah, it's crazy, crazy times. I'm about to have 10 years of a catalog - maybe 1000 + titles given to Discovery for FREE by one of my publishers so they can preserve some of their income - at my expense. Believe me, to say I'm not happy about it is an understatement. Man... that’s just insanely brutal. Sorry to hear it man.

The wheels for the new Mac Pro cost 400 f*cking dollars.... Need I say more? A $50,000 computer is capitalism in its most truly disgusting, offensive form (especially when the build components are nowhere near that cost) It’s not like you can’t get a reasonable version of it. This whole thing is blown out of proportion. How many people actually need a maxed out version of the new Mac Pro? Nobody here, that’s for sure.

Is over kill. But you can build a PC that in some ways is more powerful. The only thing this machine has that a PC couldn't really have(at this moment) is the 1.5Tb of RAM. Otherwise, you could build a more powerful PC for rendering by investing in the GPUS mainly. For audio. The only new mac to buy is the mac mini. Only thing worth the money and plenty of power for audio stuff. Is it possible to upgrade the ram yourself in the new mini?

Driving the mix bus of a 4000 is one thing, but it’s definitely not what you want to do on anything after the K series (or on the J for that matter). Things get ugly quick, and it’s not a good ugly.
That’s what you’d get with the sigma as well.

I need to do a better job of demo’ing plugs before the sales pop up. I never have spare time around the holidays to sit with them and see what’s useful to me - then wind up pulling the trigger on stuff I think will be cool but ultimately don’t wind up using. Sort of frustrating. Maybe that’ll be my New Years resolution this time around!

I don’t have any experience with old Hammond amps, but I did blow the PS caps in a beautiful old Dynaco 60W monoblock when I plugged it in and flipped the switch after 10 years of non-use. I was told, after the fact, FWIW, that I should have put it on a Variac and brought it up to full line voltage gradually, over a period of a day or two. I did the same on a mint mid 60’s Fender Deluxe Reverb after it not being used since the mid 60’s. Womp womp. Live and learn I guess. Had the caps replaced and other than that it’s factory!

I'm certain you've all experienced similar nightmares to some of mine, where you get the grocery list of changes and things needing to be done . . . and you get through all that after cursing under your breath, and then another list magically appears, and i jus doesn't stop. Some folks are so dissatisfied with their own work that someone or something else must be to blame, so they keep going and going trying to reshape things so that the real problems are covered up. Or so it would seem . . . Yes Yes And yes

I'll be moving off Waves when I get a new machine. Till then it still works but I only really use a few of the plugs. I really like RennAx for a quick set it and forget it comp. I think the H Delay is the only thing I use in every session and I'll have to find something to replace that. I just really liked the simple interface. The fabfilter stuff has moved me away from any of the L limiters I used to use.
And yeah I'm with drbill, Ive never had a problem with iLok.

Only do 8 bars at a time and you’ll be fine.
Sometimes you’ve got to mess with it a bit if there are lots of tripplet kicks and what not... but that’s the best way I’ve found to do it and make it work.

Ive never actually used console aside from the setup. I’ve got the 16.
One of the main reasons I’ll never use RME anything is because of their “console” which is the biggest piece of garbage I’ve had the displeasure of dealing with.
Coming from older Hd systems and then Hdx, it seemed like the biggest headache and waste of time/brainpower that I had ever had to deal with.

Can anybody speak on the subject of Amphions vs. NS10s? You can get a pair of One12s for around the same cost of NS10s (assuming you'd replace the tweeters and woofers), so I'm wondering what the move is here. I dig 10’s and have them sitting on my desk alongside a pair of NS-4’s and my Barefoots. The 10’s are super useful for me, but I can’t imagine choosing them over a pair of Amphions.

I always wanted a real 560.... cheers Wiz Not sure I’d want the real thing because there’s no recall with the sliders...but jsteiger’s LC25 and 40 -“are somewhat based off of it and the bomb. The sliders are the absolute WORST to try and recall. Even running tone through them at the selected frequency you can’t even get close to what you had. I eventually moved to telling engineers they were broken when they would want to patch them in on a mix years ago so I wouldn’t have to deal with the headaches.

None of the guys I assisted used templates, including Andy. He may get to the same place sonically because of how he hears the songs and where he wants to get with them, but it’s generally not in the same way.
Also, most of my time spent as an assistant, I was so consumed with working and making sure shit was right that I didn’t learn much as it was going down. Doing recalls and staying late after every session is where I really where I stole lots of info.
