Funny reading all these shared sentiments. I bought into the IK group buy a few years back with a bunch of you gents. I still don’t use half the stuff I bought then. But when I saw this, I’m like “dag!” I had to stop myself. Such a great deal, even having to deal with the pain that is the IK installer. But, 50 bucks is 50 bucks. I’ll mark myself safe from this deal.

Instead of “video killed the radio star”, it’s now video games killed the audio star. Probably more like Tik-Tok/YouTube Shorts. Kids don’t have the attention span for an entire song, let alone a full album.

I’m really trying to be more conservative in my audio purchases as I’ve already got a lot of software and hardware.

I feel it is a bit meh. I can put an emphasis deemphasis EQ on Satin and get a better bump result. Since I already got Satin, I won't buy it. I don’t have Satin, but I’ve got a plethera of tape and saturation plugs. I keep hearing good things about this plugin, but I’ve also got GREAT hardware that gives me saturation too.

Any other thoughts on this plug? Goes off sale tomorrow for some time, it seems.

Couldn’t you track midi as well, and then reamp if needed?

I’ve replaced the Amphion woofer, tweeter and rear passive radiator. None were exceptionally difficult.
Sounds like you might be in the troubleshooting amp phase, though.

So I just put in a deposit. Admittedly, I may back out before the bill comes due but my FOMO got the better of me. Also was just thinking how I’ve never even considered reselling anything I’ve bought from Stam Hoping that % off for previous orders might get put to use for this also. I just did the math and own around $20k of Stam outboard and mics. I remember reading about some loyalty discount, but can’t remember. Also, is this mono or stereo?

How is the support, drivers, software, etc? That’s equally as important.

Just thinking about how to properly gain stage this thing. So the input is an attenuator, right? So let’s say I’m coming in at -35/40 db on the 1073 and it’s peaking around -6 db on the meter. I know I’m not overloading the input, so should I start the input wide open? Shouldn’t I be seeing -6 db if it’s not attenuating anything? I guess the short question is: how do you calibrate a 660? It’s not hard to dial in, I just want to know the proper way to do it. I had the MKI and now the MKII 670. I still struggle to understand how to gain stage this properly.

I’ve had issues with a few of my Stam pieces. Josh has always taken care of it, which involved sending it to his U.S. repair tech. He’s generally pretty responsive through email. His stuff sounds great.
And I’m not one to care one way or another if the faceplate says Stam/Audioscape or Neve/Universal Audio, etc. I only care what it sounds like (and how much it costs). And also support from the people who make them. I’ve had excellent support from Audioscape, Retro and Chandler as well as Stam. Those pieces all developed issues at one point, and all of them made it right.

You have to take into account that we ship from the other side of the world and 99% of issues happen during shipment. No unit leaves our workshop with a fault or an issue (unless there is a twisted knob or small scratch I miss every now and then). We have clients with 40/50 units from us with zero failure rates in 5 years and we have had a few clients with 4 units and all 4 arrived with an issue. About a year ago we decided to start dropping all units from a certain height (boxed up) to emulate the treatment they will get from Fedex and bingo. About 10% of them didn’t pass QC and now very rarely have any issue with clients. I won’t compare myself with other manufacturers but I can say we buy the most expensive or solid parts available for our units and so far things haven been very good. Servicing 500 Stamchild beasts under warranty would be a financial nightmare for a small company. I don't know if I've ever had gear packaged as well as a Stam piece. Kudos on the packaging, Josh!

But seriously tho, from what I gather, it's based on a hardware from the early 00's from SPL that was essentially running DSP, loosely based on something emulating tape? So, that begs the question, how many tape plugs does one need? How is this better than the two handfuls of tape and other saturation plugs I already have?

the machine head plug weirdly caught my eye too. hoping we can eventually get to some discussion about that piece of software in this thread. Pffft. It operates nothing like the hardware. This is a hyperpre pseudo-elliptical digital zapper with a hint of flux capacitor interference.

That and his Sontec is on sale, which I remember him saying that it would be unlikely to ever go on sale.

What’s the word on this one? I’ve largely stopped buying plugs, but this has me intrigued for some reason. Rick Carson seems like a good dude.

I'm curious if anyone else has compared the Bricasti to Inspirata. That's the one people on forums say is closest to that Bricasti quality. I've tried them back to back using the Bricasti from Access Analog and thought that Inspirata retained the most of that hardware's quality of any other plugin I compared it against. Probably posted about it here back when I did. I have both a Bricasti and Inspirata Pro. There are some very cool routing options with Inspirata Pro that I'm only just beginning to learn about.

So, that local shop had it that day? I saw ads claiming only Target had it. All the shops in central Ohio had it that day. The shop I took them to opened early at 8am to host the release party to beat out Target. I took my daughters before school. I am by no means a T. swift fan, but we made a good memory that day!

They were only available at Target! I took my daughters to a Taylor Swift listening party at a local indie record shop they day the album was released. We stood in a long line to get in. They did chores for weeks, saving up their allowance to buy this record on vinyl, to add to their collection of other Taylor Swift vinyl, among others (Olivia Rodrigo, Noah Kahan, Kasey Musgraves, etc). They are 7 and 11 years old. And they actually spin these records often! I taught them both how to use the turntable, and how to handle vinyl. For them, putting on a record is a "thing", like watching a show. And when they want to buy a record, they don't ask to go to Target. They ask to go to the record shop. Maybe they are just imitating my behaviour with music and vinyl? Or maybe I'm teaching them to appreciate the tangible aspect of putting on a record and listening to it with some attention paid? If I didn't take the time with them, to teach them and show them, they would totally not do this on their own. Maybe it's up to us to teach and guide the next generation instead of throwing our hands up in the air?

Dag. Hard to act to follow. Here's my lowly singular new gear... ![](https://i.imgur.com/puDFgKs.jpg) Looks Stamtastic! May I ask what brand of patchbay are those units and which patch leads are you using? Thanks Redco on both.

I dunno. I’m feeling optimistic that the tide shifts toward authenticity. Vinyl record sales continue to increase. Then there’s live music. But I could see bands/performers using AI to write songs. Or at least ideate and reiterate. Music for film/shows/commercials? That could be different. I could see that music licensing taking a major hit.
