Yes! Anything you put in between is going to affect the tone. Older amp designs seem to be more sensitive. My 64 Princeton sounds far better when the guitar is plugged straight in than going through pedals or directs boxes. Once you start stacking pedals it matters less but if you have a guitarist that plays straight into the amp, he’ll probably notice if you plug a Di before. Electric Guitars always had some form of suck due to its wiring technology that is not compatible to itself at times with pedals.
Does not compute.

Yes. I think with the free one you just get 10 free profile slots…and last I checked, you can’t delete and replace them. So if you do that, be careful what you download. I just bought the $99 (or around there) one and it’s unlimited slots. As for the sounds - it’s definitely a step up from the algo versions. I still think there’s a sameness to the profiles similar to the Kemper…I prefer the AxeFX…but it does sound pretty damn good. Well....dag. I figured. Also, I'm assuming it's per profile and not per amp. I think the amalgam stuff comes with 20ish presets per amp. I don't know if I want to spend that much. I was looking for a couple of different flavors for scratch tracking ITB, but I can just use what I've got...which is kind of my new goal for this year. I tried one of his free ones, the Swart AST clean, just because I have a Swart AST and wanted to hear how it compares to my current silent tracking setup, amp -> Suhr RL IR. Granted, different cab IR's, but the amalgam Swart is brighter and cleaner. One thing I noticed is that with my Swart amp, I can play clean and dig in for a little hair. I love that. With the amalgam ToneX, it stays clean no matter what. It's like, one tone...clean.

Anyone using this? I was thinking about buying some captures by amalgam. Do I need the paid version (ToneX Max) to import these, or can I use the free CS version? I know there’s a limit on the number you can download with the free version. But does that limit apply to imports as well?

I am using a Countryman to split the signal from my guitar into my interface (Lynx Aurora n) for DI. What kind of level on the DI should I be getting? Right now, it's EXTREMELY low, RMS around -55db peaks around -36db. Is that normal?

8 x Countryman here, used for DI split on every guitar track, re-amped later if need be. Are you going from Countryman straight to interface? Any loss of high end?

I use a Countryman with my Suhr RL too. Sounds great. So, I just dusted off my Countryman to try this out - Guitar -> Countryman with mic output going to interface and the amp thru going to the pedalboard -> amp -> Suhr RL. Basically, splitting the guitar signal at the DI. I'm hearing a slight loss of highs when the signal is split vs not split. Are you hearing that? Does it bother you?

I have been having great results with cutting my guitarist with a di into a Suhr reactive load and then IRs... I can reamp later and he still gets the feel he likes during tracking. Are you splitting from the DI? What DI are you using? I've got Dan's Zod DI, but the thru sounds like crap. I think he said it was meant for a tuner, and something about the thru is basically a direct mult (not Buffered) so you are weighing down the input impedance of the main signal. In order for that to not be the issue you would have to use a buffer.

I purchased a code to buy silver bullet plug, it’s part of their mega bundle, but code doesn’t seem to work. I had put it in vouchers slot or how are you supposed to use it ? Thx! If it doesn't work, then you got a bad voucher code. I just did this a couple weeks ago. The voucher I bought from a guy for $29 didn't work. Luckily, he was a good seller, and gave me a different voucher that did work, which at that point will make the plugin cost $1.

I thought sb plug in was excluded from coupon discounts ? I got it with a forever 29 coupon. I think that’s the only real loophole right now Same. Compliments my HW nicely.

I've had this happen before, and I just held down the pedal and poweredd it back up and it corrected it. No such luck. Any ideas? Cheap Yamaha FC5...I have two of them and it's doing it to both. I had this same thing happen to me. It wasn’t a hardware thing. I think I had to go into the CC midi setup of Pianoteq and make an adjustment. It was frustrating. Sometimes it would work, sometimes not. Once I adjusted, it never happened again. Sorry that’s not more specific. I can’t remember exactly what it was.

I’ve been buying UAD since UAD-1. Spent a load of dough on their DSP and plugs. Due to their asinine plugin resell policy, I’ve sold my entire plugin library more than once. Will I get cut out of any future “deals” for long term loyal users? Meh, I don’t really care anymore. Does UA even have 80 plugins that I actually want?

I can also recommend anything Benson makes. The Vinny is used by some folks I know and they've got a new thing called the Bellringer which is variable from 1 watt to 30 watts or so. The Vinny is louder than you would expect for a 1 watter but still probably fine for 'home' levels. www.bensonamps.com/amps/vinnyYeah, I have a Benson Monarch. LOUD. Very loud. I had the Monarch+ with Power Scaling. Still very LOUD. And very EXPENSIVE. I sold it cause I just couldn't stomach the amount of money I had tied up in a 15 watt 1x12 tube amp with simple controls. Killer amp though. I still have my Monarch head that I bought used before the pandemic skyrocketed demand...and price. A much better solution for lowering volume is the Fryette Power Station.

ragan has done a bunch of tests on this. I’m using the Suhr with some choice third party IR’s. Another option is the Fryette Powerstation. It is a tube based reamper with a direct out. The interesting thing about the reamping section is that you can get full power tube saturation from your amp, and use the Fryette to get volume under control and mix your amp. You’ll miss out on speaker breakup though.

Man...I've been struggling justifying even spending $99. I probably will, but besides the Capitol Comp, I'm not sure what else I would even use. If I did the 2fer 99, I could do SCS and CC, but I have the probably-very-true suspicion that I would rarely ever use it. After demoing the thing, I could get it to where I thought it sounded pretty good...took a little while...but then I pop a Seventh Heaven/Valhalla/etc room on and I can't really tell you one is better than the other. I just have a bunch of things I want to get and I'm trying to decide. Same here. I actually have two 25 coupons, making it 2 for 50 for me. Which is hard to pass up. But for the life of me, I really don't need anything that I don't already have. I wasn't planning on buying anymore plugs this year, but the UAD hype marketing machine already got me for SCS, C-Max limiter, 175B/176, B3 Waterfall, and their Leslie. But it really is hard to pass up a 2 for 50. I think I have narrowed it down to these: Capitol Mastering Comp C-Axe C-Vox Electra 88 Hitsville EQ Do I really need yet another software comp? What does this do differently than the gazillion I already have? Plus, I have a carefully curated selection of HW to choose from. C-Axe and C-Vox seem like useful tools, but I already have RX 9 Standard and Acon Restoration Suite 2. Does this bring anything new or better? I don't really have a noise or room ambience problem with my vocal recordings. I do get some hum/buzz in my guitars, but could RX or Acon fix that just as well? I already have a few Rhodes (Pianoteq, Acousticsamples VReeds and VTines, Orange Tree Famous E). Is this one better/different? Hitsville EQ...zzz...zzzz....huuh, errr.. another software eq? I admittedly splurged on the new Tone Projects Michelangelo because I had sold my HW this past year and kind of miss it. I'm really struggling to decide.

What do you all think of this tool? I've got an Artist Mix that I can manually ride faders, but sometimes feel I lack the experience and time to do it properly.

Can someone help me to understand why my grid seems to change depending on if I'm in Grid mode vs Slip mode? It's just this one session. Doesn't do it on others.

Traded a Guild 12 string for a J45 Standard…excited to have a slope shoulder. I think I’ll get a bone saddle made (Tusq or whatever it is just doesn’t sound right to me on the B and E string ever) otherwise happy with it! And as nice as the Guild was I don’t need 3 acoustic 12 strings 😆 I upgraded my J45 with a bone nut, bone saddle and bone pins. I also threw a set of vintage style tuners. They were hard to find, but made a HUGE difference in terms of feel. Changed the balance of the guitar, not so neck heavy.

What are your favorites/best sounding?
I bought a three pack license from Thomann last year. Figure I better make my selections. I'm starting from scratch and looking at Decades, Fields of Rock, Hitmaker, Legacy of Rock and Rooms of Hansa.

the UA 175/176 are pretty nice. I probably use them more often than the Fairchilds. I've got a $25 off coupon which makes this plug like 15 bucks. Dag, I really don't need it, but...

If I was gonna spend any more money on recording gear, is this where I should spend it? Aurora would be an upgrade both ways right AD and DA from Motu right? It’s routing can’t be any more difficult than Motu. Except for some simple two track stuff for youTube mixes, I only track. I am not mixing my own stuff. I can speak to this, as I upgraded from Motu to Lynx. More difficult? No. Motu routing is more flexible. Lynx routing requires you to think differently. I’d say the sonics are an upgrade, but it’s not night and day. Rarely ever is in the last 10%. It’s a more solid, higher end piece all around. But more expensive. You get a lot for your dollar with Motu, in terms of conversion, routing and connectivity.
