(Admin edit: HIC = heavily invested clients) I had referenced this in the past here, just reposted as I finally found the link. was just bemused that UA is finally doing something about the elephant in the room of its deals more favouring the least invested client. Here’s the link, basically so far, Drew had a zoom call with 10 randomly chosen clients, but you had to own multiple devices and at least 80 plug ins to be considered. That would be own currently, not owned in the past, so peeps like me who have bought 5-10 devices and plugs in 3 times are sol ! Dear Wiz only has 70 plugs so he was out too, but how could he have contributed with his extensive IT knowledge , recording expertise and knowledge of analog and digital hardware and software: just sayin, the selection criteria could have been more knowledge not ownership based . Wonder what UA will come up with ? uadforum.com/community/index.php?threads/user-help-needed.68023/#post-494915

Lucky you:) I wrote to Drew volunteering ,as this was what I spoke about on UA forum two year’s ago, not that it was supported at the time, never heard back, but I don’t own any hardware now and just Signature bundle, so didn’t meet selection criteria

It's more corporate BS from my perspective.
I only own 1 UAD-2 card but bought two UAD-1 cards that cost more MORE each than my UAD-2 Quad.
I've supported them since the day they started with the UAD-1 and have bought 45 plugins at near FULL price.
But will they include me in this "little sweetheart deal" apparently not.
When will UA stop being so divisive and stop choosing select groups of individuals to favour. It's like a high school clique!
If you want to be generous be generous to ALL your customers.

Well, it will do something, and everyone can take advantage of current sales. I thought it ironic, that even initially UA is trying to incentivise more sales, if you have less than 80 plugs and it launches a special deal at 80, peeps may buy more plugs to qualify? I said 2 year’s ago, the solution was simple, since UA was selling Ultimate for under a grand to people whose subscriptions just ran out, then anybody who had already spent mlre thsn though on plug ins should be given the plugs to complete the Ultimate bundle. Crickets !

80 Plugins is a crazy amount to qualify. At full price, that could be near $20,000 worth.

Sure, but no one would have bought them individually at full price.
To UA’s credit, it has been increasingly offering more aggressive discounts over the last 5 year’s or so.
An artificial threshold shouldn’t be used, it should just be prorated based on the percent that you currently own.

well, I missed that. my account says 79 UAD2 plugins, but there are several that only show up as Native (in UAconnect) so I probably could have qualified (for that and UAD users anonymous). My Apollo 16 and UAD-2 Quad PCIe are both "old" devices so they probably wouldn't have wanted me in there... and I run Windows OMG!
but I guess for those of us that do have 80+ plugins, what more could we want from UA? tbh, I've probably bought everything I need or want unless they come out with something new, but that seems to only be 1-2 a year at best?

I’ve bought several Apollos and satellites over the years. Sold all my plugs once and started over. I think I’ve got like 45 plugs. Now if I wanted to leave, UA has made my plugins basically worthless, so that’s pretty cool too. Look - UA owes me nothing - but this is why people are fickle and un-loyal. I made the decision to buy at the time I did and I got the “benefit” of using the plug since the day I bought it. That being said, it IS hard to read stuff like this and not feel left out.

I want to say this as gently as possible… maybe don’t treat hardware and software ownership as some sort of club. Whatever tools you deem worthwhile, you should feel like the use justifies the cost, at the time of purchase.
Also, if you think a company is playing favorites with some users, you don’t have to buy their products.

I don't know if it's that as much as it's that UA has been rewarding any newcomers, but the people who have spent more than a decade buying their products are not really given any substantial benefits. There are some companies that only focus on new customers, and they completely ignore the ones that have been loyal for so long, so eventually they lose them. There is something to be said for loyalty, not just in a business, but in life. It's not a "club," but most people want to have some level of mutual respect to exist there.

UA just can't get out of their own way. It's been impressive to watch how much they've bungled all of this.
Why UA can't figure out a simple concept like prorating, based on already owned plugins, is beyond me. Instead they continue to hamfistedly divide people up into groups, which will only ever satisfy the minority of people that happen to be a perfectly sized "round peg" for that particular "round hole". Otherwise, everyone else is just a square peg, endlessly looking for a hole that they will never fit into, and will thus be pissed off about it.
Honestly, I think UA should just dispense with all of this never ending sale nonsense and stick with a permanent lower price model that meets their desired revenue/profit goals. Every plugin is $75 (or $50 or $39 or $100 or whatever), and be done with it.
No waiting around for sales or anticipatory, carrot dangling bullshit from the UA marketing team. Just simple, clear, and devoid of any ambiguity. A huge part of UA's problem right now is that they have created a trust issue between themselves and their customers. Customers don't know what is going on, or how to even sort of anticipate what might be coming down the road.
Should I buy now? Should I wait? Will old customers be taken care of? Will the half baked product I just purchased (or am thinking about purchasing) ever go back in the oven to finish cooking? Will I be able to actually talk with anybody at CS about these half baked products or other problems I'm having? And on and on. Who fuckin knows...?
When presented with complaints on these sort of matters, such as those related to ambiguity about UA's marketing and customer uncertainty, Drew often likes to respond with something along the lines of "you, the customer, might have some complaints about it, but this kind of marketing WORKS".
That sort of response is very illuminating about how UA views its customers these days. Yeah, it apparently works for UA. But what about the customer? What about any of this is working for the customer? This is a central point I've been making for a while now. UA doesn't respect their customers to the same degree that they once did, and it shows.

It’s not a club, like many I had spent $10-20 grand on UA products. Two years ago when the first 3 month subscription ended, these new clients hadn’t even spent $100, yet UA offers them, exclusively , Ultimate, meaning all UA’s plug ins for under a grand.
As I said then and as Quint said above, a simple prorated discount on the remaining Ultimate plugins was all that was required and for those of us who had already spent 10 times or more than the deal the new subscribers got , should either just get the license or pay very little.
Otherwise, it’s same old, same old, with the newer client getting a much better deal.
Remember, UA hasn’t finalized anything yet, Drew just had a zoom call with a few clients to pick their brains , so the actual program is still a work in progress.

Exactly the strategy we see over and over from the wireless device/network and internet service providers.

Thanks for posting about this, I can't be bothered to try to decipher what they're doing anymore so I welcome the easy info you guys post. I'm 87 plugins, 18 cores and 13-14 years in with them, would be great to reap some benefit if it does go that way, otherwise I figure I've gotten my value out of them. Besides, in my view many of my former fav plugins of theirs have been sonically bested by some of the newer offerings from other companies, not sure why UA has fallen behind in this aspect.

I’ve been buying UAD since UAD-1. Spent a load of dough on their DSP and plugs. Due to their asinine plugin resell policy, I’ve sold my entire plugin library more than once. Will I get cut out of any future “deals” for long term loyal users? Meh, I don’t really care anymore. Does UA even have 80 plugins that I actually want?

So far, there is no indication that total over time purchases matter, what will matter is current plug ins.
I never saw the value of ultimate at normal prices for same reason.
At this point, I have probably bought a total of 150-200 UA plugs over various ownership cycles and now have the 40 odd native with no hardware, so can only buy native anyway.

I've got enough UA to where I didn't even get anything from the last sale where it would have cost me $80 for any 2. If the newer plugins had DSP releases, I'd be more tempted. What would be better is if UA released hardware with either way more powerful DSP chips or with triple or quadruple the number of Sharcs that the Octo has but for $299 max. At this point, I'd rather get some Wesaudio pieces for a Titan over time than to buy lots more plugins. UAD lost some mystique going native, though it's good for us. It just turns UAD into another plugin company in the eyes of many. If they could also somehow break new ground in emulations by using DSP hardware that can exceed the single core capabilities of modern cpu processors, then they'd be back on the cutting edge. Still lots of ground to break.

As a relatively new UA user and customer, I would have never bought as many plugins at "regular" price as I have using the recent deals and coupons that have been going on for the last 12-18months. I think I paid like $150 for Ocean Way, which was my first UA plugin and necessitated a Satellite. Since then, I've picked up about 15 more UA plugins over that time, and always with some sort of combo deal bundled with a few coupons. I made calculated moves, and I don't think I ever paid more than like $30 for any one plugin. I think I scored the 2500 for like $14 a few months ago.
The way the deals work makes me question if UA even cares about the "new" clients as well, as the math just doesn't even make sense if you take 5 minutes to look them over. They have the 2-for-99 deal every month it seems, and it typically runs simultaneously with the 6-for-399 deal, etc.
Who is going with the 6-for-399 deal, and leaving two free plugins on the table? Thats not even factoring in the $25 coupon each time you make a purchase. The whole thing just seems so convoluted and unnecessarily complicated. Why even offer a deal like the 6-for-399 when its clearly a (relative) bad deal???
Although my main GAS was traditionally in the drum world, I'd obviously be annoyed if, say, my cymbals suddenly were being offered at pennies on the dollar to new customers after I spent 1000s of dollars helping a company grow.
