The shock mount thing undoes a lot of the good work some manuf's are doing IMO. Really shits me that I can't reliably hang the mic upside down for example.

The previously unseen footage blows me away; hard to believe there would be any particularly so interesting. Saw Ron Howard's "8 days a Week" a few days ago; that was great and I would have thought he'd have picked the eyes out of available footage but this looks even better if it sustains for the full movie.
The other thing that stood out was the open camaraderie between them even as it was getting to the band's end. loved it.
The other other thing was the lovely mics that would look so good at my place!

Nobody talks much about Metric Halo. It seems the time it took them to get the 3D option up and running cruelled the vibe towards them. A pity because they are top shelf items which in my experience go and go and go....

You've got the Prism Titan there but you may in fact only want the Prism Lyra (less ins etc but essentially the same tech specs I think) at mucho dollero less.

The Apollo 4 would be good in that it's small enough for your initial needs but also big enough if you get a mobile gig recording a duo or similar, you don't have to schlep all the main studio gear. it's tech specs are close to the rack mount apollos as well. Cheers, Ross

Absolutely support your last post Wiz - a proper re vamp of procedures at UA should be their 1st priority. In my books UA have always held an 'imagined' position of being above the Harman / Behringer etc corporate don't care attitude and it's a fragile feeling based on reputation /trust which these sorts of experiences diminish and which play into the hands of those who'd like to see them fall a peg or two. My studio re vamp slated for next year is to include an X8 / Luna with a new Mac; this causes me to pause so I await the outcome with baited breath as I imagine others are too. My final thoughts are that the distributor here should have loan units particularly for those who make a living from the interface; a side benefit is they'd have a keener interest in quick repairs. Cheers, Ross P.S.it's taken this long to make a decision to ultimately provide a new unit - that could and should have been done in a few working days. UAD is made in China now like Harman and Focusrite. They make better interfaces than Harman and Focusrite but it's still made in the PRC. Why not go Lynx or MOTU? Have both a Metric halo ULN2 (10 years and absolutely no issues) and a Prism Titan (5 and no issues) so if I don't buy UAD I've already got quality ; was looking to get into Luna for the no latency and a new computer etc.

I reckon you read me wrong JK, I was talking about the pre as well; it gets another X-former with the eq patched into it's insert path. Cheers, Ross

JK as far as the Great River goes , it's one of the pieces I respect and don't worry about.I have it with the eq inserted but not enabled (transformer) and it just does the job on everything if needed. Is it better than several others I could name and is it worth gassing over ? - probably not but it works any time and reliably at that. With what you've got and had , i seriously doubt it would make a real difference to you so rest easy ol' fella. Cheers, Ross

Sounds very nice - enough esses there to trip up a sibilance prone mic but no hint of that at all. Great performance too; thank you. Cheers, Ross.

FWIW , i've had a ULN-2 for 10 years with no glitchiness I could attribute to it ever, I don't ever have to think about it and run my Prism Titan into it via Adat as the MH latency is better. I only wish it had a couple more line ins.

A lot talk about the M50s; I've had them and IMO they have a wide bottom end bump. If that bump is OK with you but you want more fidelity then the Shure 1540 is a thing of beauty and extreme closed back comfort ( and , ahem; price, sadly). Without that bottom end lift, i'd have bought them without question. Cheers, Ross

Actually enrolled for one of his weeks and ultimately said no due to lack of finance but i always thought I would love to talk with him about whatever came to mind. A true legend for sure. A great tory i read once was that "Billie Jean" was mixed around 90 times onto 456 1/4 inch and there was a tower of tape 90 mixes high in the control room. Bruce had said to Quincey that he thought they'd got it at mix 7 or so but Quincey urged him on to get more vibe or whatever . After 90 mixes they went back to the one Bruce had originally nominated. I hope he was on points for those records.
RIP Bruce

Wiz, i can imagine being pissed by this but of course electronics can die in the arse any time ,even expensive ones some times..... as to what UA should do, I would like to think they could provide a demo unit to tide you over. and of course this should have only taken a couple of days to remedy particularly as some of us are more than just weekend warriors. I'm a UA fan boy but "Not Good Enough UA" comes to mind Cheers, Ross
P.S. it's hard to believe you've had it 10 months

The more accurate and comfortable of the Audio technica line are the R70x , open back but non flattering; the 50s are likeable closed backs but have a general low end bump. Cheers, Ross

They are both very good Mark ; I hear the difference you'd expect between a tube and transistor design much as you'd expect - the Soyuz could be substituted for a good 87 with similar results and the Stam is a fine mic for sure. It's personal preference really. loved hearing Youngstown again done so well. Cheers, Ross

My friend just did a quick throw up of a tune on his i-phone with acoustic and vox, he jagged a very good balance and it has vibe; the audio quality is good enough to present that vibe and the quality of his performance; if he'd tried to do it into my set up, we would probably have over-thought it and while it would have been clean it would most likely have lacked, so as i get older I stop worrying too much as long as it works. Cheers

Cant imagine UA doing the big corporate buy up (not that they are "Big" anyway) and cheapen Bock to hit a price point, maybe they have the day to day issues such as distribution/promo etc sorted and David is kept on in some capacity where his skills are not stretched every which way. Cheers

Thanks for that John . I believe A is the Kk47 and B is the M7. The essence of the voice is similar to Beatles recordings on B. An even more interesting comparison would be to hear them against Dan's for sure. As an aside, which mic out of your Upton and Heisermann is best on your voice?

The 'What sounds right is right' philosophy absolutely means I'm not married to my KM 84 and don't try to force it - my Stam SA 87 often works better. Cheers, Ross
