Polar pattern and placement are almost as important as the player and room. My bass rig sounds good in my basement, but it is a nightmare to record down there. After a few years, i just gave up and decided to di all bass and reamp upstairs (wood floors, more spatial volume). Now that I think about it, if I want to track it in the bassment, I should consider piling up some absorbers around the cabinet.

All things being relatively equal, if I were to spend that much on a mic I figure I might as well buy a brand new one. That seems to limit me to the umt70s

Ha! I had to practically give mine away 2-3 years ago. Only got $100 for it. Somehow I'm doubting the 002 being the better part of thta chain

Wow, what a mic.
my bandmate borrowed a friends pair of um70s to track his dad's original tunes a couple weekends back. Conversion was digi002 (about 20 years old at this point).
holy hell, what a terrific, realistic sound image. His dad's stuff wasn't all that great, but it sounded phenomenal to my ears.
Now i've got a terrible lust for at least one of these beauties.

stam, the pre order price on these is $490? So $100 deposit and then $390 upon completion? And is the new shipping option available?

Not really. Phase is a lot more complicated than polarity - it's not strictly "in" or "out", it's a rotation around 360 degrees of a circle. a 180 deg. rotation is functionally the same as flipped polarity (not really, because that ignores the time factor, but for most intents and purposes), but 90 deg out of phase is equal to a rotation 1/4 of the way around the circle. Where this becomes important is when you consider the harmonics of a musical waveform - some get reinforced, some get cancelled, which wrecks havoc with the tone, and can also cause other strange artifacts. This is also the same thing that causes problems with room modes ("standing waves") in acoustics. It would be a lot easier to demonstrate this with an oscilloscope to display the waveforms. I know they are not the same thing. I'm saying when recording engineers use the term 'flip the phase' as in push the button on the preamp, aren't we really inverting polarity? it just so happens my day job is physics and math teaching and tutoring. I work a lot with sinusoid algebra and calculus and their graphs on amplitude vs time

Monitor Control sort of seems like a condom choice to me. It's about what it takes away, or sort of, kind of, leaves alone. I am another happy user of the Drawmer MC 2.1. I don't believe it's 100% transparent, but I like what it does, or adds, or doesn't also do. My previous choices have all been budget crap that I won't even mention. Anything cheap and passive is not worth the time, if you have a few bucks available. The Drawmer has all the right stuff for me. It's been a big upgrade, and I haven't found anything cheaper that works in the same way. I'm looking pretty hard at the mc3.1 Very tempting

I posted some questions on that thread back in december. No feedback whatsoever. Anyway, the filter section of mine seems wonky and I'd like it fixed because other than that it's a killer stereo bus comp for drums. I didn't build it and I'm not super interested in spending tons of time figuring it out. Just checking to see if anyone knows a tech that's worked with them.

I scored a Serpent Audio SB4000 a few months back. Been using it quite a bit lately and it has some circuit quirks. Do you guys know a good tech that has worked on these? I emailed Serpent Audio about this months ago and never heard back.

I'll try to be more clear;
I want to send my kemper outputs to the ada8000 and then to my 16a via adat. While at the same time, send 8 outputs from my 16a to the ada8000 for headphone mixes
Just curious as to whether it can handle two different processes like this at the same time.
I know i could just try it myself, but want to see if anyone has experience with this first.

I have an ada8000 just sitting around collecting dust. I also generally run at 44.1 or 44khz
Wonder if I can do this simultaneously: 16a adat outputs - > ada8000 adat in Ada8000 Analog inputs -> ada8000 adat output -> 16a adat in
I was originally thinking about using the behringer as my input device from my kemper so i don't have to patch in and out all the time. Would like to avoid buying another

I cannot. The last one I built was a couple years back. Jsteigar is on this board from time to time. I'm sure he'll answer you.

Vp26 will likely be just as easy as the diyre eq. I can build one in an hour or so. The opamp on the other hand...

i use a presonus central station. It's a bit fiddly and I wouldn't mind upgrading. like it for the monitor switching, mono option and headphone amp. I don't require the headphone amp as I have extras that could be used.
what does everyone else use and why?

I've used a logitech m570. I DO NOT recommend it. I've bought a couple and they both have some issues with any OSX after mtn lion. I love trackballs when they work well! My favorite way to burn thru an edit screen
