I've been really impressed with Kemper for high gain stuff. I've heard the same from many people. I usually have an aversion to modelers but I was doing FOH once and this guitar player brought one, and I have to admit, it sounded really good. However, he didn't have a high gain tone. You're in Portland, right? If you're not too busy I'd love to hear it some time. I'd gladly donate some beer to the cause. Sure thing. Beer is definitely the way to my heart! i'm pretty open the next few days

Both artistic and commercial. Not looking to release albums or tour. Just writing and recording songs because it's what motivates me. If I were able to complete and sell some, that would be grand.

Hey Terry, Can you recommend a decent rehearsal studio in Portland? I'm looking for a monthly lease, somewhere I can setup all my recording equipment as well as a place to jam. I'll moving up there mid June and its looking like I'll be on the edge of Beaverton/West Portland. I already called Bongo Fury which looks like it may fit the bill...but can you recommend anything/anywhere to look? Thanks in advance. Bongo Fury is the only one I know of on the west side. Toadhouse in north portland is pretty cool. audiocinema and puddletown are close-in east side. audiocinema has the thickest walls of these places, so I would think it would be the best for tracking and minimizing other bands and their 500watt tube bass amps getting into your recordings. I almost went that route a few years back and decided to find a house with a basement instead.

I'm looking at hooking up with a couple of songwriters in order to produce their songs with my studio and musicians. The tunes would then be used to try and license for commercials/film, etc. Do any of you guys do this? if so, what is a typical agreement in terms of publishing?
A song can take a good deal of time to produce well and most of them won't make a dime in the licensing world (or any for that matter). I'm just trying to figure out what would be fair to all parties.

I loaned my kemper to a bandmate the last couple of weeks. Just got it back tonight.
He's now mad at me because he's addicted and has to find a way to buy one.

I run unbalanced 1/4 out of my kemper (4 channel - 2 stereo wet fx, 1 mono stack, 1 mono di)
Those then insert to my behringer ada8200 and then adat to my 16a

I currently use my single 16a like so:
16 analog in/out (patchbay) 8 adat out (4 stereo headphones feed) 4 adat in (kemper input) 1 adat out (kemper di return)
My unit held up for two years before needing to be replaced while just barely within the warrenty window. I think my problem was caused by cable strain.
My biggest complaint has been the difficulty of understanding their routing matrix...but to be honest, it's probably as simplified as can be at this time.

Soundgarden was also big in my own musical development. Probably from ages 12-22. Very sad.

The lacaing bar idea was my first inclination, but the zip ties with screw holes look pretty awesome. I don't have rear rack rails and really don't want to bother with buying/installing a pair.
Thanks for the feedback everyone.

What do you guys do for cable strain relief?
my interface (motu 16a)has 32 trs in/out points and just recently had to be replaced after only two years. I think it might be due to the strain the weight of the cables are putting on the unit.
wondering how others approach the problem

I'm not a UA user, but an album I helped track last year was mixed by another engineer through those UA plugs and the slate vcc plugs and I thought the mixes ended up sounding dull and in a bad way. Of course, being that I wasn't there for the mix, no telling how much hi end was actually eq-ed out by the mix eng.

I haven't downloaded any updates as my interface just crapped out a few days back. Luckily, still under warrenty.

When I moved from NM to OR about 10 years ago I had all my precious studio gear in a van that I drove. I don't trust others to handle my stuff with care. What part of Oregon are you in? Portland
