Depends what sample rate you're running. Either they'll do Toslink, ADAT or SMUX.
If you're staying at or below 48khz an option would be to buy a Behringer ADA8000 to run the ADAT outs from the 16a into. That would do a D/A and those run around $200. You could do 2 8000's and have an additional analog 16 outs via the Motu light pipe banks.

They work, not sure what else to add. I've imported legacy files from ADAT's with them, coming through a 2408 based PCI system locked to the 16A system with word clock. IF you get into high sample rates the muxing can screw you up with track # reductions.

I have an ada8000 just sitting around collecting dust. I also generally run at 44.1 or 44khz
Wonder if I can do this simultaneously: 16a adat outputs - > ada8000 adat in Ada8000 Analog inputs -> ada8000 adat output -> 16a adat in
I was originally thinking about using the behringer as my input device from my kemper so i don't have to patch in and out all the time. Would like to avoid buying another

I have a motu 16a and behringer ada8200 hooked up.
The Behringer runs VU meters, Headphones sends, and 4 channels on my console. I run 48Khz.
Yes you can connect the Motu adat outs to the behringer in, but you would need two behringers if you wanted to do 16 channels.....
cheers

I'll try to be more clear;
I want to send my kemper outputs to the ada8000 and then to my 16a via adat. While at the same time, send 8 outputs from my 16a to the ada8000 for headphone mixes
Just curious as to whether it can handle two different processes like this at the same time.
I know i could just try it myself, but want to see if anyone has experience with this first.

It should do that. In and out are not considered the same path.

I own a 16a. It has two pairs of adat IO. So yes, you can do it.

On the analog inputs just make sure you use 1/4" TRS instead of the XLR and keep the gain knob at -0- If you really want to take full advantage get BLA to mod the analog circuit and the conversion noise reduction. When they get done with that box you can actually use the preamps and they sound pretty damn good.
