What subwoofer(s) are you using and have you heard the new Dynaudio 18s with the LYD 48's?

I’ve had really amazing results with Great River. I was always really interested in the P1 though.

I used the emt250 on a cool Guitar part and it sounded perfect for the track, so now I’m back into UA for a bit.

Aren’t those P1’s just a hair different than a Great River NV? The P1 is essentially a 500 series Pacifica, but with a different output transformer. This is Quad Eight heritage. I use them interchangeably in my studio. The Great River is a Neve inspired design. I feel like they are different textures entirely. The Great River is more weighty and smooth. The P1 has more presence to my ears. Brad I liked both preamps, but never had them next to each other for comparison.

You should look at the Platinum VP28 from CAPI. Has a built in DI and is two stage. Its not like a normal VP28 from what I've heard. Its got a smoothness to it while remaining punchy. Way different than the regular 28 imo. I love mine. Interesting...I need a CAPI experience

Owned the cv4, now own the stam 67, also own the gzfet67 (dont buy this), Couple of interesting mics i liked were also the jz67, and the at4060, yes the Stam 67 slays them all. But some of the differences between the cv4 and other c12 variants are not that different . I mean my Bock 251 was not like 5 times better even though it cost more. I have a nice dany bouchard mic with tim campbell capsule and that is quite nice a bit nicer then the cv4. But i also have a ck12 beesneez hybrid 251 which is also quite nice but not 2x as nice as the cv4 even though it cost nearly aus$3500. i would be interested in the Omni 8 though. Seems like a good sound happening there. I have owned just about every variant of the 251, and I absolutely love Bock mics! I can definitely say that the ones I bought slayed any other mic I have had for vocals and acoustic guitar. In fact, I like the 151, 241, and 251 so much that I am looking to add a stereo pair for my drum overheads. Do you think there was something wrong with your Bock 251? I demoed a Miktek CV3 and CV4 and ended up returning them, however the CV3 was a nice mic along with the CV4, just short of what I wanted. Once your ears get acclimated to a sound, you get to a point where nothing tops the next tier. I was very curious about that Shannon 251 CV4 mod, remember John Kennedy has one and posted some vocals through it on here. I bet that will get you kind of close to Bock territory for much cheaper, maybe? Always wondered.

Forgot to mention, I use the Chandler Zener for parallel crush drums on just about every mix. I got the UAD Zener and liked it so much I got the HW. I track through it (overheads, rooms, bass, vocals) and I use it on most mixes as a Kick/Snare crush in parallel in my hybrid summing. Not wanting to sidetrack the thread but this happened: I was doing a mix revision yesterday and had the HW Zener on parallel duties and noticed a lot of dust on the VU meter glass so I ran my finger over it and accidentally pushed the meter glass in :-0. It turns out that it had happened before because, when trying to figure out how to repair, I noticed some of the VU screws on that side were not factory tight ( its a second hand unit) Anyway, I didn’t want to break the needle or anything so I decided to not usethe HW and I set up a parallel bus ITB with the same settings and levels and was able to complete the mix revision. It was 98% there and in a parallel situation I suppose its going to be less noticeable. So anyway, UAD saved the day! Just to comment also that I emailed Chandler Limited support asking for a guide on how to fix the glass and I got a detailed step by dtep back in 30 minutes! Kudos to Chandler Support :-) This is the one mother load of a piece that I have been wanting and drooling over for several years since I first heard it at Randy’s studio.. Killer piece! I guess I should demo the plug, but I can guarantee it won’t satisfy.

I tend to use the BR SDX on everything. Occasionally I steal individual snares and kicks from SD3... Do you have a few songs that you posted with the BR in your mix that I can review?

Sweetwater keeps sending me Toontrack Superior deals on Indie and progressive sdx libraries because I put them in my wish list about a year ago, lol. These are on sale right now if that’s any consolation. I need at least 2 TB to put most of the libraries I have on a disk, so I uninstalled all my SDX libraries when I upgraded to SD3 and I miss a lot of those grooves. I thought the grooves were stored on the system drive, but when I used the manager to uninstall my SD2 sdx packs the grooves disappeared with the sdx libraries I uninstalled. Anyway, I need a bigger SSD, and waiting for prices to drop. For those that have the Bob Rock pack, do you find that you even need the older SDX packs between the new SD3 and the Bob Rock SDX 3 pack? Do you notice a big improvement in the sound on the older sdx packs with the new SD3 updated software?

An audio engineering buddy of mine came over to check out the Apollo I have. We were going through the Console 2.0 because he is in the market for an interface and I was walking him through the Apollo workflow. We were going through the plugs and demoing amp sims. He really liked some of everything he heard(except for some amp sims)and then he asked me if he could control Console 2.0 from an iPad app because he does a lot of live work. I told him that I don’t think they have an app. He said he just don’t know now because of the ease of having an app to control the interface and Console is something he wants. So my question is, is UA ever going to come out with an app to control Console 2.0 and the Apollo’s from the IPad?

I have SSD4 and forgot about it since getting SD3, but just don’t seem very interested in other drum programs at the moment.

Yes, check out the 440, when Warren Huart uses it on a singer vs. his vintage U47. (On his YouTube channel) Chris Warren Huart was using that 440 pure with a generic Audient ID-44 preamp in the interface. I would like to hear that mic through a nicer preamp. If it sounds that nice on a you tube video, I can guarantee it’s fine in any decent recording environment using better preamps and converters. And no other company is going to beat that price for that kind of quality for a mic.

Have any of you tried Lewitt mics? Just curious if you have and what was your experience? These mics are starting to create a buzz When Shannon and I (and Tony and Winetree) were at NAMM a few years back, Shannon was really excited about this company and spoke highly of their microphones. That was enough of a ringing endorsement for me . . . and yet, I haven't bought any to date I heard a couple of them and was very impressed by the prices and how they sounded at the level of prices. Clearly a better mic for the money. I have all my bases covered currently and I'm not wanting for a microphone...That's what I keep telling myself. Repeat after me - In a positive, stern, happy voice... "mic locker covered" with a smile - reinforcement!

The less expensive AK-47 was my favorite of the bunch when I tested them over at Dale Audio a few years ago. Did you demo an AR-51 as well?

When discussing API gain, like the API preamp, does the Chroma have the same gain as say an API preamp? When you change settings from the (N)eve/(A)pi setting, is the gain the same, or does the gain structure change? Or are they consistent in gain? I have even more questions regarding the MR Focus line of products, but I need to do some more research. Thanks

My 002 stock sounded better than the Apollo Silverface. That had to be the worst sounding thing I’ve ever heard. Made me want to go back to my Adats. I swear there was something wrong with it.
