One could do plenty of audio damage with a 6-core i7 3.2 gig w/64 gigs of ram...don’t you think? Definitely. Though it more than doubles the price to get 64Gb of Ram haha . Yes, but still at $2599 for that much performance in that small package. You’ll be paying more for anything else that compares in performance with the Mac book pro’s and the tower’s. I look at the aftermarket stuff from OWC. I haven’t researched OWC prices yet. My 2012 is still plugging away, but I will need TB3 pretty soon.

ericn, the ONLY ones I promote are the 428 MARK 1s, made in England. The Mark 2 isn't even close to it, and I believe the 828 is based on the 428 Mark 2. The 4 impendence settings and variable HPF and do a remarkable job of varying the tone offerings. . Yes, those are the ones. I know they came out with a cheaper version and I actually forgot about those other models.

I’m proud of Apple. They finally did us justice and at a reasonable price. Let’s hope the fan isn’t a leaf blower. Are they finally listening to the consumer?

You can cook an egg on them, but yeah, not bad for a utilitarian preamps. Mine never ever get that hot. Is that supposed to be the norm with them? And I find them interchangeable with certain API pre's too. Not the exact same midrange, but very very usable. Just slightly more Neve -ish. I have owned two separate 428 units in the past and they both ran extremely hot, but never had a problem with them. They were solid units for several years, sold both of them and reaped a good return.

Does anyone have any experience with any of the following or any other suggestion: Audient ASP8xx Focusrite ISA 828 Yamaha MLA8
True Systems Precision 8
(For vox & acoustic stuff I have Avalon 2022's & BAE 1073's)
Save a pile of dough and buy a pair of Focusrite 428 Mark 1s. They can stand up against almost anything. You can cook an egg on them, but yeah, not bad for a utilitarian preamps.

Have any of you used the UAD Chandler Limited amp to get Vox AC30 sounds? Vox is one amp I wish they would add to their selection. I didn't like it at all... Fizz & Buzz

How does that digital IO work on the 2x6SE? Do they just mirror outputs? Can the AES and Optical output be different plus the 6 analog ones? Good question, I want to know this also

I will try EricN's approach. I will own a huge space someday, I will own a huge space someday, I will own a huge space someday! Hey I have my lottery tickets for tonight’s $1.6 billion dollar drawing. That is what I'm counting on! Too bad the odds are against us, but you can't win if you don't play! A glimmer of hope in the grandest of odds! If I win this lottery I promise you I will be building a studio in Nashville for the RGO Members with deep discounts, and put John Kennedy in charge of it! I will need everyone's help designing it and sourcing gear for it here from RGO!!! That would be my number one project! Going now to get tickets!

If I say it enough it will come true right😎 I will try EricN's approach. I will own a huge space someday, I will own a huge space someday, I will own a huge space someday!

no probs: I like my symphony mkii 16 a lot and would like the SE 2x6, be great for adding 2 even better channels (so 18 in total) and to use them for monitor outs as well. . That is exactly my intention

I have had 2 apollos, the bla mod, a burl b2, and 2192 and now Symphony MKII: it is my favourite and have had the 8 and 16, also never heard fan come on. I think the comments elsewhere about the soft top end have some merit but sonically I really value the Symphony MKII and it’s dimenionslity and soundstage. I am doing my best work with it. The 2x6 se card also adds back the i/o the 16x16 lacks and would be an excellent 18 ad da configuration. I am curious about aurora though: guitfiddler do note the two 16 aurora used for less than one new Symphony MKII 16! Thanks, but I’m definitely sold on the Apogee. My 16x Symphony system has finally reached the end of the road for me.

Great reply! Thanks Brad. I love your ChopShops so I knew there had to be something speacial about these things to merit and full lineup by you vs the Color Palette. Just wasn't super obvious to me. Sounds very cool to me. More things to buy from you! Currently saving for a SilverBullet first though.. Hi, Glad I could help clarify. If there's anything you think I'm missing on the website that would help others, let me know and I'll try to add it. I definitely want it to be obvious for folks. Thanks for being a Chop Shop fan! I only have 2 Silver Bullets left right now... new run is in the works! Will there be a power supply frame/sidecar for 500 series console in development? Did you come to any conclusions as to which 500 series powersupplies were the best to own? I apologize for missing this question earlier. Another good one. I can't comment on what's currently in development, but I would like to offer a 500 series rack at some point that delivers excellent sonics at a good price...along with some features nobody else seems to be offering. I always have exciting things brewing though. And of course want everyone to check out Mister Focus! 500 series rack short list: BAE Heritage Audio Purple Audio API 8-sp Lunchbox thanks, Brad Did you forget to mention Rupert Neve Designs R10, or did that not make the list because you didn’t get around to checking it out? Thanks Brad

What are you looking for in an EQ? Adding excitement or just sculpting frequencies? What would you consider for excitement and just sculpting? Actually, I have some British eq’s and some clean channel eq channel strips ,but they are not exactly what I would use on a vocal or acoustic guitar, more for percussive stuff like drums. I was looking more along the lines of 500 series because of my idea to build a 500 series desk/console/or use whatever someone designs that is reasonable for a future project.

I had the Chandler REDD mic for a week and found it every bit as impressive as a vintage U67, U47 or C12. For me, it was brilliant because it would save me from buying an expensive preamp if I want to get that kind of sound. I have wondered if a producer with a high end board like a Neve, API or SSL might prefer not to have another preamp in the signal chain. I didn’t try it with the preamp turn down all the way, so I can’t really say if it’s neutral enough to use with a different preamp, but for me the thing sounds so damn good I wouldn’t want a different preamp on it. I have heard of a few situations where producers have chosen the Chandler mic over other heavy hitters, so it seems that it’s not really a problem having a preamp built-in. I didn’t have time to check the full video out, does the new microphone have a preamp like the REDD ructions in the signal chainmicrophone does, or is it just an EQ kind of circuit? the new tg mic does not have a preamp built in Well that does it for me, I’m out! Lol Chandler is just one of those brands that you just buy it and be done with it.

We talking on original U47? I wish! No it's a Thiersch M7, AMI transformer and 608 tubes in a generic body. Sounds super close to the real thing, even Shannon said so after he checked it out when I built it. I want one of these!

Are you guys using the Apogee DA for your monitoring and headphone cues, or a dedicated monitor controller?

I am running the Symphony MKII SE with two of the 2x6 mastering modules in it and I love it. I definitely notice the difference. My favorite converters yet, and I have owned Burl, Lavry, Symphony MKI, UA, and more. The sound and conversion is excellent, much better than any other Apogee product I have ever owned. I'm done searching. I actually track with it too, the latency is super low with Logic & Pro Tools and the interface is simple to use with both hands on features and software controls. View AttachmentI’m definitely sold on the Apogee Smk2, moving on from a 16x S Thunderbridge system. I really liked the workflow and a really low latency the symphony system offered. I did some experimenting with other brand converters and although I haven’t heard the Apogee S Mk2 myself, but from what I’m hearing from other trusted ears, it’s a go....that’s so purdy looking!!!

They (Apogee) told me that the SE converters are the latest & different ("mastering quality") than anything else & only come in that new 2x6 SE card. Since I haven't tried them yet I'm also very curious to hear feedback from users here.
Also curious about how would you grade Apogee converters in general - compared to Prism, Merging, DAD, Lavry, Mytek, etc.? Having used Apogee for a very long time (and still using them) I keep running into some (on the other site) who argue with me that they're "not at the top now" as those other ones mentioned.
A constant keeping up with the latest greatest is expensive. I’ve been on the converter kick for some time now and almost ready to find a system that works for me for the next 5-10 years.. Looking at the Apogee Symphony mk 2

Other than them being 2x6, aren't they completely different converters etc. ? MikeC here has the SE. The specs are different, just curious if it is night and day difference and worth the upgrade? I’m using a mastering converter anyway going out of the daw analog, however if I can improve the analog output specs it will be better going to my mastering AD Converter.
