Had to park it in the big black rack for the moment.
I'll find a spot for it soon.
First small effort - Studio B Close on a drum buss. Wow, that certainly put my drums in a nice room. Weighty and very real. I look forward to the next few weeks. Extremely Impressive. Extremely smooth.
Enjoy!

Too bad Spencer had addiction problems, he was so young and talented and had his whole life to go on the edge of starting a successful career.
Eric used his unfairchild on the music and yes, he does use his pyramix summing box. So many great videos that have oodles of great info on how he works, what a great talent. He explains in the later part of the video regarding his setup and routing.

Didn’t bla say they don’t mod the 16? We definitely mod the x16. It was the last gen black 16 that we didn’t mod It seems the Blackface 16 mkII would be the one that needs the mod? Is it a different design?

I bought a pair of Genelec 1030A’s back in 1993 and I’ve had them ever since and they are still kicking strong, no issues. I can’t really say how many hours are on them as I’ve had two sets of monitors for years trying different monitors out every 5 years or so. I am surprised though. I’ve been pretty lucky over the decades, knock on plastic.

For sockingly amazing mixes! You can hear and feel the warmth in your enveloping mix when you put them on!

Yes, the good old analog days! Unfortunately those nice big breathing beasts that sound glorious are a huge luxury that require oodles of cash

Bricasti hardware. Hard to make it sound bad. Adding it to drums makes the drums and verb sound like they came together as one, had a baby, baby grew up, and became stronger than either and/or both. To call it "magic" would perhaps be hyperbole.....then again...... maybe not. I wish I had 2 Bricasti’s!

I seemed to always have this issue when my converters were less quality. When I moved up to some top converters, decent monitors, and tightened up my room it was much less of an issue. Always striving for that extra 5% can get costly

I hate to do this, but did anyone check out the Antelope Galaxy 32? They have a 64 option as well!!! Eric Valentine just went this route. This converter looks sweet! All the I/O you could ever need or want, and a monitor controller for it! This would really fit into my workflow perfect with my outboard. Unfortunately there isn’t a headphone jack on this interface!!!! You have to get the Galaxy 64 to get the one headphone jack, then that’s a huge price jump

Haven’t heard the Apollo mod except for some stuff at Martin’s, but I have experience with the BLA modded Digi boxes and Behringer, both were a definite improvement and worth every penny. I really was impressed with the Digi 192 Mod. I was just reading an old interview with Mike Shipley about the Paper Airplane record. He said they used the modded out 192s for it and once everyone heard it they couldn't go back. That is an amazing sounding album! Mike Shipley was a great talent, too bad he’s gone. RIP Mike. There is an article somewhere out there about that record. I think he used a Rupert Neve 9098i console on the record if my memory recalls. There is also a BLA article on the Mutt Lange 192 upgrades somewhere out there.

I set mine to Brit mod 600 ohm but still getting a to compressed sound. Especially for strumming. what is your input and output set to ? Slow attack? Release? I could never get my BG-2 or BG-1 to sound “clean or transparent” but everyone’s idea of that is different. Does yours have the sidechain high pass filter? That might help it not be so grabby. Mine didn’t have that feature Yeah, it can be quite grabby, but I like using it without compression too, and it makes for an amazing tone box! I want a BG1!!! I don’t have the side chain, but I did see one with variable release and attack

Most my heavy hot tube gear and fx outboard are missing from the pic. These things need room to breathe! And the desk was to designed and built by me and the purpose was to downsize and clean up the mess! This is the day I had enough of the mess and was committed to clean it up!!! I moved my patchbays to sidecars under the desk, working on mounting them under the front part armrest of the desk to clean up the patchbay wiring mess😆

I really like my 5043’s! I think the 543’s are similar to the 5043’s, I never had the 500 series to compare. I know several times I’ve went to drop in a vocal on a big rock mix and the 5043/5033 on the chain and it just fit and worked so good compared even to a classic chain. That’s why they are still in my rack. I ditched the 511’s and the 5012’s in search of a different thing. My ISA 215(2-ISA 110’s in a 2 rack space w/EQ and Hi/Low filters)is the sound I really like. Sounds great on anything! I heard good things about the RN Newton’s

I’ve tried a bunch of different mics live and depending on your board and speakers and the room, that can make a big difference on the way your mic is going to sound. Condensers work great if you have a decent PA and a good sound guy. Shure KSM9 Neumann 105 Shure 87a Older Sm58 made in the US Beta 58 was a little shrill for me, but sounded great on the female singer Telefunken M80/M81(I use to carry these two and depending on different venues I’d switch them out) Sennheiser 835/935(935 too clean for me) Tried the 945 and it was too clean sounding. I think it would work better on a female vocal. I mainly use an Senn 835 now because it’s not harsh and it has a little more bottom end and fills out the bucket more. I like the Shure KSM9 a lot too. Oh and a Heil PR35-The 35 had a huge bottom and a nice pickup, however it was weird in the mid and top and sounded to bitey and tight in the upper mids and highs. Kind of harsh and pointy in the upper mids for me These things are personal and depending on the voice it’s just like studio mics in a way. Some work others don’t. One night I preferred a cheap Samson mic on my voice even though the top end was almost not there. It sounded smooth and just worked in that room through that PA, and sounded pretty good . We just bought some RCF 912’s. They sound really good for monitors.
