What subwoofer(s) are you using and have you heard the new Dynaudio 18s with the LYD 48's?

I've got a pair of LYD48 and this is kind of interesting, though at $2999.00 for a sub, that's a bit extreme for me. I've got an old Velodyne 12" sub that will hold me over till I have some serious money.

At that price take a listen to the JL Audio I would look at stereo subs, often the sat sub summing with stereo subs can help with the bite, and give you more body.

List price on the 18s sub is $1999.00 Yes, and quotes are certainly lower if you talk to the right salesman, maybe?

Genelec 10’ series and active Bagend ELF / Infrasub’s always were a fun combo, give the Subwoofer Pro box’s a try. Having owned 1030’s 1031’s and little 1029’s Genelec LF drivers are not as quick as they sound when you start sub shopping but they do mesh with a couple of really quick boxes.

Being a Genelec 10’ series guy , very interesting. That 18S looks killer, do you think they will sound good with the 1030’s?

That’s hard to really say without hearing the combination, Dynaudio has some great drivers, most are pretty fast, like I said Genelec LF can be deceptive. Some times it’s really hard to get them to sound right in the crossover region with a sub add to that to me Genelec’s own subs are all about the bloom and the bass just hangs there no decay. I’m not sure, my first Volt based was part of what really made me dump my Genelecs. The best results I had with Genelec and single active sub waswith the ELF infra subs, I’ll admit a bias the guys from Bagend are good friends and probably spent more time with their subs than anything other than my own designs, but they worked. The last couple of Dyn boxes I heard were damn good, didn’t go as low as I would like, but we’re pretty fast a little compressed sounding but had really nice definition of pitch.

I had a good experience with Dynaudio in a Carl Tatz room, subs were built in the wall. Really nice sounding, it was very defined, accurate and just enough bloom without being boomy. I want accurate and effortless bass without the muddy, boominess.

I am looking at this but there is nowhere in my region to listen to them them (no serious pro audio store in the whole of Ireland ... thanks to small population size and Internet sales I guess). I’ll have to check the returns policy ... I am pretty sure the LYD48’s will be great in my 6m x 5m room but I am wondering if the 18S sub will really bring a huge benefit with the room EQ option it has or I should stick with Sonarworks and get myself a Chandler TG mic instead of the sub :-) Decisions, decisions ...
