I'm so glad Ted Fletcher is doing so well, and still building great gear!
Check this out (notice the grin of a Cheshire cat):

Have any of you tried this software? I’m curious because it might make it easier to manage my samples. And, they’re having a sale. I like it a lot. We have almost the entire XLN Audio catalog. But have not acquired XO just yet.

I see no reason to buy an interface with preamps. The preamps (from anyone) are never as good as good outboards.
Metric Halo and RME have amazingly nice preamps. Not colored, buy still pristinely delicious.

I think that a lot of people that will tell you that they have had "good" experiences with Antelope products have been those that run their products into someone else's interface, via MADI, and simply use the Antelope as standalone converters. But I would NOT want to depend on using any Antelope product as an actual interface. The support and driver issues have been and continue to be a horror show. It's all there to read about on various forums and social media. If this holds true and we talk a commercial studio. The OP could invest more money into RME and go with the most stable drivers in the world. It facinates me the past 10 years that I run 25 I/Os with not a single problem except firmware or driver update. Always stable, always running. A true workhorse setup. I sometimes wonder why RME is not getting more reputation for it's soundness. Another top dog in "stability" is Metric Halo. Their new "3D" systems (upgrades too) are awesome.

I am still quite happy with one of the last units made in the WMD series... the Wooly Mammoth Deluxe mkIII Tube Edition, S/N 000001. Still sounds great!

The Max MK-67 has more definition and clarity. The Innertube U87 seems to have a low-mid bump to it. The H47 sounds like the mids are scooped a bit, effecting a loss of clarity.

I'm really happy with my Metric Halo interface, the full compliment of embedded high-grade plugins, DSP that relieves the CPU, ability to apply embedded plugins whilst tracking, and no-latency monitoring.

...It looks kinda like its written on the Sony Ardour platform... "Sony Ardour"? I've heard of "Ardour", and I know Harrison Mixbus is based on it, but am curious if there is another incarnation involving Sony? The first thing I thought of when I saw that Luna was a "recording system" was that the DAW was based on Ardour.

I would imagine the plugin alliance subscription has cut into their subscription numbers a good bit. The PA collection of plugins is certainly quite wide and varied. We like it.

We just took delivery of two P38EX MK2's, and got one installed at my son's studio, and got a chance to work with it a bit. Some things that stood out: - The combination of the input gain, and the threshold control, and the output gain, you can really drive it as hard or as little as you want to. - The 4 types of compression -- "VCA", "1176", "LA2A", and "Greenbox". - The Stereo Width is really nice. UPDATE: Here's pics of the two we got, from his first batch of 5:

I have never gotten to work with one, but I saw a video demo of the Charter Oak SCL-1, and was super-impressed with how well it compressed in a natural and transparent way.
Anyone have experience with it?

Someone said they think the pres sound "clinical"... I say "transparent". But there are countless ways to warm up a track after being tracked, or if you have the DSP built in, you can apply the Character plugin when tracking, and there are some great sounding choices there.
I upgraded mine to the new 3D card, and can say it sounds fantastic.
The only concerning thing is that if you get one, you will want to eventually get the 3D upgrade, as support using the older version of the MIO console software, and Firewire, will likely die on the vine.

Holy crap, that Airwindows Deesser is the best I've ever used. If only I could figure out his website! His website is more "blog" than anything. Just do a keyword search to find what you are interested in.

Aren’t they both simply ic chips? As the X is a much newer design, isn’t the pre surrounded by better signal path in the X, I think the audient is plus 5 years old ? There audient users at ua forum. From what I understand the Audient is a discrete transistor/op amp design. Not IC. I concur. In fact, it was my understanding they are the same preamps that are in their top-end large format consoles.

Reminds me of my Wooly Mammoth Deluxe Mark III Tube Edition: I imagine the Modular Channel is amazing.

Based on how cute that puppy dog is, I'd have to say "AU..." (like the the plugin format, but pronounnced "awwwww.....") ;-)

Ive never tried or played flatwounds however I dig the sound. Anyone have any opinions? If one bass with flats would it be P, J, or PJ? Flats on a P-bass is definitely a great way to go. I think there is a Labella flat that is considered very good... "Deep Talkin' Bass" (there is a "Gold" series version too)

I still think the combination of the Metric Halo interface + embedded plugins/DSP processing is hard to beat.

Oh, and watch for when actors are walking around with, and handling coffee cups -- they are usually empty, and you can hear it when they set them down!
At least they ought to put water in them so the weight of fluid comes across!!
