I'm watching this video at least a couple times a day now. It is amazing how much variety of tone and colour can be imparted with it. Just plain awesome.

I don't see much about this line of gear, so I post this: I just discovered that Mammoth Cave Audio has put up a new video about their flagship piece, the Wooly Mammoth Deluxe: I have one on order, and I cannot hardly stand the wait! (10 weeks lead-time, but I hear they added a new guy to help with the work load)

...already been out for a while and has made them some serious dough many times over. R So, could that be said for the Tubetech hardware, too? Is that a good reason to _not_ buy something -- because they are successful with it? If that is a the right line of thinking, we should only buy things that are _not_ popular and are _not_ proven, and have been a _failure_ in the market? ;-)

I have been communicating with Ross lately, too.
I believe he is at a tipping point, and would hope he and Mabry tip in the right direction. They seem like serious, well-intentioned folk -- reminding me of the sort that this country must have been built on.
I have also offered to help in whatever way I can.

Is there a proposed timeline I have not yet seen?
I keep seeing encouragement to get svart's box, but not sure how long I can wait to get _something_.

1. Again, the DAC is not an interface in the way you're thinking, though it's USB connection can be used to convert computer output to analog. It definitely cannot be used to input audio into the computer. Interesting... I emailed RM also, about how the Bare Beast and the pcm4222 interface to the computer, figuring he ought to know how his own gear is designed to work, and this was his response:
Then I sent another email with this question: "And you confirm the USB port on the Bare Beast is bidirectional, allowing for stereo audio playback and recording, when the pcm4222 is connected to the Bare Beast via AES?" He responded:

...so I tried to make my avatar look like Ahnold. Sadly, this was I close as I could get with the available options. On my iPhone, it reminds me more of John Lennon! ;-)

Thanks, LesC -- very helpful info, indeed.
I certainly now know I had need for concern, regarding the need for "something else" (a SPDIF or AES card, I suppose -- I have a Mac Pro)
I wish I could wait indefinitely for the svartIO Masterpiece (my name suggestion), but I need to get something real soon.
RM told me yesterday that he has a Bare Beast ready, and a Silent Knight (I need a dual preamp, too) -- and a pcm4222 board that he could build out for me in a matter of days. We talked about finalizing the order and him shipping mid-week next.
I guess we'll see what happens.
I've got to decide if I should go this route, or just buy a Metric Halo ULN-2, or some other 2x2 AD/DA with pres.
I'm working at 48khz, so would be fine even with some older gear.
Suggestions?

Thanks for the info svart!
So, the RM pcm4222 ADC is always the clock source, and connects to the DAC via AES, let's say.
Then, the Bare Beast connects to the USB port on the computer.
How do I tell OSX what the clock source should be?

Well, I guess I was having a "moment" when I asked all the above -- it seems this is my answer:
- Because the DAC has a USB interface, then the interface via USB to OSX/Pro Tools is handled as with any other USB device.
- The ADC won't need a clock because it is interfaced into the DAC via AES.
- Because the DAC has a clock, I should be able to select the DAC as the clocking source in the OSX Audio/Midi setup.
Is my thinking straightened out now, fellas?
(I just want to make sure before I allocate funds, that I know what all I need and do not need.)

I have never used any AD/DA gear except an all-in-one "interface" that works with Pro Tools on Mac OSX. I'm looking at the Ross Martin gear, and pondering the Bare Beast and the pcm4222. I think the Bare Beast has a USB port, but not sure about the pcm4222. - Can anyone explain how these separate DAC and ADC devices interface with Pro Tools and the Mac OSX computer?
- Will I need a separate word clock device? If not, can anyone explain how those devices sync together?
Thanks!

So, I'm thinking if I don't build something with that switch, I might sell it -- any idea what they might be worth?

...thats a four channel elma attenuator... Makes me wonder why the Equinox needed a four channel vs a 2 channel attenuator. I suppose that for my purpose, I'll only use 2 of the channels. Any ideas on how to make best use of the other two? btw... I ran across this, which seems to spell out fairly well what the wiring would be like: I figure I might just get a nice 2U panel to build this on, instead of a "table-top", unless you guyz have a source for nice boxes with wood ends?

Speaking of a BLA Micro Clock, I have been wondering how much that (or another good clock) could improve things?
The PCIe-424 manual indicates that an external clock is not needed -- I suppose that is because their is a clock on the card already?
Since the 1224's only do 44.1 and 48, is the older Aardvark sync clock (does only 44.1 and 48, with some odd slight variances just below, inbetween, and just above) any good?

I apologize if I offended thee. I am just wanting to confirm if it is even possible to add a few parts to make a simple monitor controller.
Not sure what else to say to describe the "application".

We have almost all the Addictive Drum kits, and have settled on the Vintage Dry as our favorite, with a tweaked version being the core sound for our current album project.
Second in line is the Fairfax II, for more aggresive, yet clean/tight sounds.
We love AD.

The topic of the thread is about the idea of using it to create a passive level line-level control.... Is it simple, and how can it be done?

I have the stepped attenuator shown in the attached images.
It is my understanding that I could create a passive level control with it, with some connectors, wiring, a box and a knob.
Is that true?
If so, how would the wiring be done?
Thanks, Bruce

The only reason I had acquired so many channels of I/O was for analog summing, but it seemed that was not a significant improvement.
So I sold my summing mixer, and decided I should focus on the 2bus, but am having second thoughts.
What if the reason analog summing did not impress me was because of the 1224 converters??!'
If that is the case, should I spend over $1000 to get BLA mods, and wait a while to get them done?
Or possibly consider having the guys at Revive Audio do the mods? They have confirmed they do mods on the analog paths, similar to BLA. Anyone heard their modded devices?

I am considering acquiring a mastering-grade 2x2 AD/DA. Been looking at things like Metric Halo ULN-2, Lynx Hilo, the Ross Martin stuff, etc. - What is latest on this piece?
- When will it ship?
- What does it look like?
- Paypal payment?
- Paypal payment?
- Who is svart, and why should I spend my money with him?
Thank you!

I've got 4 of the 1224's, with the PCIe-424 card.
Will the BLA mod make a significant improvement?
I've read info from both camps, and wonder if the mods they do only come across as wonderful is only because of how bad the devices were to begin with?!
The only reason I have 32 channels of I/O is to be able to do analog summing.... but not sure that is even worth it.
Maybe I should just get something like a Metric Halo ULN-2 instead?
Thoughts?!
