I compared the Heiserman H47tube, Max MK-67 (with Neumann BV-12 transformer), and a Neumann U-87 with the Innertube mod on a Martin acoustic guitar. All 3 went into a John Hardy M-2 Mic Preamp. No EQ, compression, or effects were used. Hope you enjoy this comparison.

Listening on my iMac speakers, all three sound great, but the 67 seems to have a bit more open top end. Kind of a wider sound. I'd be happy with any of those on a track. The 87 might fit into a mix a little tighter, depending on where you want the guitar to sit.

I'm hearing the slight placement differences as part of it.

I'm hearing the slight placement differences as part of it. As you can see in the video, I aligned the capsules as close as possible. If I'd done 3 performances with exact placement, someone would have pointed out that they weren't the same performance. There's a compromise either way, its either same performance or exact same placement. You can't do both.

The Max MK-67 has more definition and clarity. The Innertube U87 seems to have a low-mid bump to it. The H47 sounds like the mids are scooped a bit, effecting a loss of clarity.

Sometimes there's no obvious transition, sometimes there is. Some of those differences sound like the variance in proximity effects between the mics. You could rotate like that through a mix with other instruments and 99.9% would never hear a difference. I'd pick depending on what else it was going to live with. No losers here.

Your MK67 with the Neumann BV12 has the same even sound and openness that mine does. It’s really nice. I was surprised at the warmth in the top end of the Innertube. Is that the mic on the left closest to the sound hole? Would love to hear some vocals through these.

Yeah, the MK-67 really shines here. I was expecting to prefer the U87, but the MK-67 just sounds right for this guitar. H47 didn't sound bad, just not really appropriate in this particular instance, IMO.

I like the sound of the wooden room it fits the guitar and the playing.... The way you treat the guitar is nice too....

The "67" sounds closest to a KM84 and thus wins in this context. However the H47T is massive on vocals and honky sounding guitars!! Regardless, my advice is: Get a KM84. Unless Heiserman starts making an 84, Cos I have it on very very good authority that Neumann ain't making any more of the originals any time soon.

The 67 is the first LDC I'll begrudgingly say I've liked on acoustic at all, in person, my POV. Oh wait, also a Lomo 19A19......
