I grabbed a FaderPort and a Drawmer MC2.1 to make working from home easier Now, if I could only find a table...my TV tray stand doesn’t cut it haha I have both. Great units. The faderport was a bear to set up with Cubase but works fine once done.

The mics are great but omg, this pre amp is the absolute cleanest mic pre I have ever heard... Hmm interesting. Didn't know Earthworks was making preamps now. Have you used Grace pre's ever? or Millennial? Merging? Just curious if you have to compare to. Nope, the closest I have is the original Great River MP2 (pre NV version) which is a similar straight wire with gain type of pre. The Earthworks has absolutely zero distortion though, hence the name.

its gonna be an analog reel to reel with A/D conversion. 8 track 1/2 in with built in mic pres. and a spring reverb. with built in eq , compression and delay. along with monitor control and headphone outputs. And a built in mic with speaker cabinet emulation. with cassette and cd duplication built in. and a mixer. and a daw. basically an all in one, everything you need, turnkey solution.

There are so many threads all over the place I can't keep up!! It is fun, but not as fun as once it's released. Then I can share my knowledge. when will that be?

Ever use them? Testing out some Sennheiser IE500 and figured they would be good for tracking acoustic with a click to eliminate bleed. Lo and behold, no click bleed! Am i late to the party on this? I guess, if you're a click/phones type person. Me, I play a rhythm guitar part with the pickup and do a scratch vocal, no phones, no nothin' on me, with the drummer hearing my rhythm guitar and scratch vocal through phones as he lays down the drum part. After that the rhythm guitar may or may not be retracked/doubled/whatever and after most of the other parts have been laid down I track the keeper vocal, usually three tracks which may or may not be used for main plus a double or triple (usually panned hard L&R.) No phones, monitors only. I hate phones. You can't properly hear through them and they tend to throw your pitch off. I would think that IEMs would only exacerbate the problem.
No clicks. The playing should follow the interpretation of the song by the vocalist, and a rigid click just doesn't do it for me.
Interesting, I'm the exact opposite. Rarely use monitors even when mixing as I'm up late and dont want to disturb the wife.

good stuff. My workflow with the acoustic is to lay down a guitar to click and build from there. I found with phones the beginning and end would have click bleed so I'd have to punch those without click if i wanted to keep the track. Otherwise, I would re-record after while playing along to get a clean track so having buds saves that step if i get a keeper.

Not sure which album but I believe Steve Earle wanted to title one of 'em "1176". I think there is a mixonline article talking about one of his albums where they used 1176s. I like them on acoustic - for the right sound. I too only have a hardware MC77 that I use. I like the pop I can get for finger style acoustic on something like my J200. Mostly on acoustic I use it for a hair of edge removal and a dash of excitement, and a pinch of pixy dust high end I get. For the latter sound I don't hit it hard. During tracking 4:1 slow attack, fast release. GR until I notice the sound I'm after, then back off a bit. Typically GR is just dancing not hitting anything hard - likely 3dB occasionally. I don't use the 1176 by looking at the GR; I'll only look *after* I'm on the sound I want to sort of peek at what is going on. I do find it to be a fun play box that is worth trying on anything. Banjo, Mandolin. I like to follow it with a tube opto if I want to round off the edges. I read an interview when Transcendental Blues was released and Steve Earle said they had like 16 1176's, basically one for every track. You can really hear them on some of the tunes.

I had three of them when I was first starting out. It’s a good inexpensive beginners comp but as I got better gear I moved on.
