I made an offer on a Cranesong Flamingo pre. This one had a dead channel and looked like some water damage/rust on top so I lowballedit so if i couldnt get it fixed I would have a least one channel of a bucket list pre since forever. It was the first preamp I ever heard that made a difference back when i was just starting out many years ago.
So we reach an agreement, i bring it to my tech and he said he couldnt do anything without a schematic. I contact Cranesong and they said send it in and we will give you an estimate. Turned out to be very reasonable and they brought it all up to spec and I am a happy slut. Keep supporting these guys! RIP Dave.

Beta 57 was a better mic than a Mexican 57 on almost anything, the 58 though always got edgy, the higher output was nice, but it was the mic that gave Neodymium a bad rap. Thanks Eric. I did a little reading. I have not used the beta57 since the 90s. Apparently, once can still find these but they made need new foam. I wish I knew more about changing foam as I would also like to have some of the Senn 409s from the 80s and refoam them. For 409s you can trim some headphone foam to shape and it works fine.

Take a look at Earthworks ZDT (zero distortion technology) pres. Super clean and 3d. Also the original Non-NV Great River pres, single knob straight wire with gain. Not made anymore but can still be found, I'll never sell mine. Someone else mentioned the Neumann V402 pre which is super clean and big. I'll also throw in the MT 48 or Anubis as the pres are the same with lots of headroom but extras that you may not need.

I was using an M149 a few years ago as a room mic for a horn session and plugged it into the wrong side input on a GR500nv. Didnt know until after tracking because apparently they are hot enough to drive a line level without a mic pre. The track ended up great and none the wiser.

It's less expensive then the Anubis. Not really. It's about the same as an Anubis Pro. It's cheaper than an Anubis Premium. Which does DXD resolution. The pro does not and neither does the Mt 48 Anubis Pro is 2199.00. MT 48 is 1850.00 so slightly less.

It's just a rebranded Anubis but with USB as it's main connection and adat for expansion vs Raven (networked). It will not be cheap I'm sure. And it'll sound amazing. The Anubis is great. All mergings stuff is great It's less expensive then the Anubis.

I did get to hear some program material thru it next to a focusrite x2p. Pretty drastic difference as to be expected with the merging converters. Also got to sing thru the mic pres which are also Merging and they were really great. Transparent and big and tons of headroom.

*Sennheiser. They own merging and it’s a rebranded Anubis with adat. Looks identical for the most part. Connectivity includes USB, spdif, adat.
