michaelcleary , is it true that Neumann is no longer selling some parts to the public any longer, such as transformers and capsules? Yes, I just confirmed that with Gary as we tried to arrange a purchase for a transformer. They started this policy earlier in Europe and just started enforcing it here. You can still get a transformer or capsule replaced in your Neumann mic if you send it into Sennheiser/Neumann service or to another approved service center.

Isn't DANTE a protocol? You can't really *drive* a protocol, but you can configure it's usage with various GUIs. My SSL rig used MADI, which was also highly convoluted, but the GUI made it easy to deal with. I think the same is true for MOTU and AVB, that they could revamp their GUI and make their configuration and routing grade-school simple. Dante is a protocol. Used widely, de-facto standard for networked audio. Equally ‘crappy’ GUI, I’m unaware of any GUI options, you have to use the DANTE controller window, which every device on a network sees. You ‘drive’ both it and AVB by configuring routings. I keep saying it: MOTU AVB works mostly the same, maybe better in some ways. ANYONE walking into an AVB situation who knows DANTE from any sort of large networked install situation is going to be able to drive it. It’s a massive advantage from a standardization viewpoint, knowing the biggest customers spending the most will see easy integration, and MOTU could probably really care less about the chump change of music recording world in a financial comparison. It makes far more sense than creating another non-standard any newbie will have to learn, they cut a lot of ‘newbie’ out of the equation this way....at least everywhere other than small studios. The next generation of industrial install AV will require all employees to drive these networks, and you can count on any kid coming through recording school to be trained on it since that’s where most of them will end up if they stick with audio as a profession. Flip it around: if you learn AVB you know most of Dante. You can walk into a whole new subset of live shows with a laptop and a CAT5e cable and configure a multitrack capture from the console provided you have the Dante virtual sound card license. I’d encourage anyone to take the Dante certification courses online, level 1 and level 2. It’ll explain most of AVB, reading between the lines. It is very similar to the Dante grid. I noticed this right away the 1st time i worked with Dante.

I just got one of these. www.pickasobow.com/It took so long to land that I forgot i ordered it. So far it sucks, but I'm pretty buzzed at the moment so it could be user error. But the rosin is hard as shit and wont stick to the bow. Do i microwave it? Gonna have to try tomorrow with a clear head but so far disappointed...

• Be the artist • Own the master (be the record company) • Own the publishing • Be the writer • Be incredibly talented, swim with the tide, but still be different enough to stand out this. It also helps to own the recording studio, and to be the engineer and producer...

Years ago, I was at a bar in my hometown having a drink with friends. There was a band playing, young kids. They were decent. I went up during their break to tell them that I dug their sound. They proceeded to tell me that they knew me and watched me play in bands when they were younger, and inspired them to play in a band. Made my day. For me, if I can inspire something, anything, in one person with a song, then it's worth it. I mean, you can't pay your bills with inspiration, but I never tried to go down that road. For what it's worth, wiz , you inspired me countless times. I have been meaning to buy your record. Time is a relentless beast right now. If I buy your record, can you just send me some wav files? No need to ship me a CD halfway across the globe. I don't think I have a CD player anymore. Great story right there. I had the opposite experience with a long time musician in my area that was in one of the 1st, and best, local bands I have ever seen. I saw him outside a club and told him how he inspired me as a musician and it made his day, he was so grateful and happy. We ended up becoming good friends and would sit in with each other whenever possible. When he checked in with me end of last year, I told him I working on a new album, sent him some demos and he co-wrote some bridges for three of the songs.

This is an interesting time for me as I just released a record. I posted it in the whatcha working on thread but here it is as well, michaelclearyband.com/album/1752847/last-man-standingThe background of how I made the record and who contributed is here. mailchi.mp/6a5d28dad4da/michael-cleary-releases-new-album-last-man-standing?fbclid=IwAR3vNvDffoOCW8NZen3RKqMlCKj2_89SQcV8VPgltQDO1VTWUlQUpm-2-58when Covid hit, I decided to retire from performing. I embraced the downtime and made this record in about 6 months, as opposed to usually taking years with my band. I credit the speed to being the only person making decisions and not having to do art by committee, along chipping away at it every night. I am lucky that I have a decent day gig to support my music habit and usually it is has been self sufficient enough to fund itself as well. This time I sunk some actual money into some promotion to see what happens since I have never tried that before. I'll be happy if I get some airplay and a write up or two. Initial sales directly from my website since the release yesterday have earned just over $100.00. 6 physical CDs and three album downloads. I have 1000 people on an email list and am connected to about 10k people on social media. I'm not famous by any stretch but fairly well known in my area, kind of a medium fish in a tiny pond. I'm not expecting to make any real money, as I have never made any real money selling music in 30 years, and this album will never recoup what I have put into it but I knew that going in. My expectation is to enjoy what I'm doing, finally using my studio to its full potential in a way that is efficient and productive for me as an artist. I know I am extremely lucky and I am very grateful to be in the position that I am in. Most musicians that I know are truly struggling. Its been nearly impossible for a full time musician to live above the poverty level without some supplemental gig and now, with covid, its really impossible. I just wanted to chime in with my experience as someone tagged me in this, but I am one of the lucky ones to be able to be self sufficient and not have to earn from my art alone. I'll keep ya posted on how it goes but I dont expect to actually sell much more after these first few days. With that being said, I'm getting ready to do the next one with the goal of having another release ready to go by this time next year.

KM85 on reverb for 800.00. I only wanted the body as I have an extra KM84 capsule and My goal was to have a pair of km84s. But this is a really nice addition. It makes my boomy Guild D25 sound like a different guitar. I though the low end cut would be more drastic but it seems to start around 100hz up gradually up to 500hz. Which actually works in this case. Nice tight pattern eliminates some of the crappy control room. Happy guy here.

So, I have two lovely sounding KM84s (wish I had more, but maybe some day) but they don't look as lovely, they are both missing their badges. Their stinking badges. So, from the U67 thread, this prompted my query: you can call Senn/Neumann in the US directly at 860-434-9190 but they will quote you full retail so you may be able to get a better price thru your favorite dealer. mc Does anyone know if Sennheiser in Lyme CT sells these to us poor lowly peasants, and secondly, are they hard to install? Rivets? Gorilla/Super glue work ok? Yes, you can buy them directly but I dont know whats involved with the install. mc

Ok, we figured it out. I took what the op was saying as that someone told him Sennhesier usa could no longer get parts from Germany. He was dealing with someone directly in the UK that said they couldnt sell directly to the US anymore. My reply to him is below. Anyone can order parts directly from our Old Lyme service center or thru their local dealer. I'm curious how many folks here have ordered directly from overseas before? "ah, gotcha. I misunderstood. I took what you said as someone at Neumann/sennheiser USA told you they couldnt get parts. All parts can be purchased thru Neumann/Sennheiser service directly in Old Lyme at 860-434-9190 or thru a local dealer in the USA. If they dont have it, they get it from Germany and it takes a few weeks. As long as I have been here (ten years) Ive never had anyone order directly from Germany so I didnt even know that was possible. We are not allowed to ship outside the USA just as all other countries are not supposed to ship into the USA."

Sent an email to my contact at Senn/Neumann about ordering a K49 capsule mount. He informed me that they are no longer able to ship outside of UK/Europe as of this month. Maybe Covid related? Guess you can't buy direct from Neumann/Senn any longer. Not sure what happened here but you may have received inaccurate info. We were closed in our Old Lyme office until last month so we were not shipping parts for a while but it is back up and running now. Germany goes on holiday soon for a month so they wont be shipping until they reopen but there is no policy about not shipping to the US. Feel free to message me who your contact is and I can inform them that they are mistaken. Thanks, mc

Finally acquired a Sound Workshop Model 220 Vocal Doubler (1975!) after over a decade of searching! Totally nails that Beatles ADT sound unlike anything else I’ve tried! http://instagr.am/p/CCEQz1chQA5 That looks mint.
