Picked up this Nighthawk reissue from a friend of a former student that passed away. Couldnt really find a tone that i didnt already have so had my tech set it up for Nashville tuning which I've never tried or had. Hello to my new favorite toy!

Is it true that the 650s sound quite a bit different to the 600s? Have you ever compared them, Blackdawg? I've had 600s for about 20yrs now, and I really haven't liked them much over the past 8yrs. Just too bright on the top for me these days. I mix too dull on them to compensate, and then the mix is off. I did pick up two pairs of the Sennheiser HD6 Mix headphones due to a few comments ragan made last Fall, and they are excellent. Much, much different from the HD600. (They're closed-back, for one thing). I have "heard" the 600s are more like NS10, and the 650s are flatter with bigger bass. I wouldn't know, all I have is the HD6XX from massdrop, which is even "slightly different" from the 650 it copies. Sonarworks can help with any of them if you have it. And yes they change a lot with different amplifiers. i find the opposite. I feel the HD600 are way flatter than the hd650 adn do most of my mixing on them. I'll check on the hd650 for a different perspective and to see if anything jumps out and also the HD650 seem beefier for pleasure listening so I like to listen back on them. They seem "prettier".

Actually the Gary Moore LP just happened to jump into my arms at a guitar swap. I needed an LP sound for a track and its perfect.

Nice review/demo of the U67 reissue. That guy has some of the best demos. His songs and his tracks are always stellar.

It seems only soundbars and headphones are consumer. What about headphones with an attached mic? Headset mics are pro. And by headsets, I mean broadcast mics, not office headsets.

I'm here for any questions. Not sure how much insight I can provide but I can confirm what products are pro, HD280, HD600, and HD650 remain in the pro division. mc

Dana is awesome. I send all my stuff to him. Great Mastering Engineer and really nice guy too. Are you in the PNW too? No, I am in Ct. I started working with him years ago when he was back east and stayed with him after the move. I agree he is awesome, he does all my stuff.

Like commenting on frequency dependent issues your room/monitoring doesn’t reveal? Or do you want actual mix evaluation, like “the chorus needs to lift more, try adding a high harmony to the lead vox and a B3 pad.” I think frequency, stereo image/balance and dynamics would be on the table. But I’m always open to hearing feedback about the latter! I'm always asking about low end, sibilance etc but he will point out if other issues that might need to be addressed.

what is the the u87 rhodium? have a heiserman u47 tube, Manley silver, area r84A, pair sandhill 6011A pair of schoeps mk2 and mk4, The Rhodium version was an anniversary release where they only made a limited quantity. Rhodium is the most reflective metal on earth.

not really worth it? wanted something for female vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, was looking at the U47 fet also. All the u87 versions are worth exploring. I have a U87ai Rhodium and U67 reissue and they can handle most anything I want to track. Of course we have other dynamics, ribbons and small diaphragm condensers to play with but you can’t go wrong with a u87.

It seems like every time they post a sale, the items are sold out within seconds. Got my sights set on an Opto comp and 76a. Is there a way to reserve them? Thanks all. Lightly used 76A for sale in the classified, just posted. $150 off new. Grabbed it. Thanks for the heads up!

Bought a 1979 Lab Series L9 amp on Saturday. Have L4 bass, L11 and L9 guitar amps, now, but still haven't gotten an L5 like I had in high school. Also picked up one of these... 24" kick drum outer heads, as a wall decoration Yes! I picked up an L5 late last year. It was my 1st "good" amp many years ago and I got a great deal. Awesome under-rated amps.
