Though the capsule is larger then an 87, do you think the name 387 implies an 87 style capsule with 3 x voicing's? I don't hear anything about the sound of this mic that reminds me of an 87. It's very definitely in the 47 family so I'm not sure what those numbers mean.

I bought one to use as the "side" mic in a mid-side arrangement with my Flea 47 to record acoustic guitar. It's an impressive mic, to say the least, and it has a very 47-ish vibe ...more than I expected for a $1500 microphone. If I didn't have the Flea, this could easily be my go-to vocal mic. It's smooth and has a bit of a tube-ish quality to it but without the harshness that you might find on other 47 type mics in this price range. The high end has some nice sparkle and the mic isn't at all sibilant. It doesn't have the depth nor the fullness on the bottom end that the Flea has (that would be expecting a lot), but it's not very far off. It's also very versatile. It not only has three patterns (omni, cardioid, and fig-8), it also has three voicings (forward, neutral, and gentle) so you can tailor it to your specific needs.
No one should be hesitant to buy the Atlantis. It's a very hard mic to beat in its price range. Go for it. You'll love it.
BTW... the capsule is huge. Rather than an LDC, this mic should be called an XLDC.

Lauten Atlants stereo pair...Wish I had more LDC stereo pairs. The Lauten Atlantis is no slouch. I bought one to use with my Flea 47 in a mid-side configuration and I've been using it to lay down scratch vocals. If I didn't have the Flea, I could be pretty damn happy with what the Atlantis brings to the table.

I have another Audio-Scape Opto heading my way on Monday. They weren't even on my radar a month ago and I've bought three pieces of gear from them in the past three weeks.

Mine is a home project studio. I don't have a ton of outboard gear but what I have works well for me. My rack: UA Apollo Firewire w/ TB card and Octo satellite Hendy DaVinci Sebatron Axis Demeter VTMP-2c Hardy M1 Audio-Scape Opto (second one coming as soon as it's ready to ship) Audio-Scape 76a
I have a bunch of mics but my best are: Flea 47 Gefell M295 (pair) Blue Kiwi Blue Woodpecker Earthworks SR30 AKG C414 XLII
I'm a happy camper.

I wanted one for years but for some reason I never got around to buying one. Now I have enough solid preamps for my needs and it probably won't happen. I've never heard anyone say a bad word about that unit though, especially on guitars.

Best Service has a lot of Chris Hein instruments on sale for 30% off. I grabbed the Horns which I've been wanting for some time.

So about an hour ago I tried to order the Audio-Scape 76A and when I tried to place the order, it got rejected because of some issue with my login password. I sorted that and tried to order it again but when I got to the end, it said the unit was out of stock. For the last hour I was wondering which one you guys swiped that unit out from under me. Then I checked my email and it was me. So the 76A will be heading my way this week.

I'm sure Vincent R. will want to chime in. He's been talking about these for weeks.

The G is so well done. I prefer it to my stam, but I like the stam too. Well done how? Why do you prefer it to the Stam? Sorry, just trying to bring it back down a notch, voice of reason and all. Hype is annoying. BTW, I had both side by side as well, or I wouldn't have commented. If you preferred the Stam, can you tell us why?

I was just about to post that. It's literally the only thing out there on this unit.

Any of you guys have any experience with the Audio-Scape 76N? I grabbed their Opto recently and I'm happy with it but I can't find anything online about this unit.

Thanks for the response! So the ratings on the site of BLA are not really correct.... I took a look at their site and those ratings. Apparently, BLA doesn't think anyone is making an interface that sounds good.

I had an 003. I dumped it for a UAD Apollo and I've had no regrets at all about that.

Vincent R. forgot to mention that he fell in love with my Hendy DaVinci. This post was my excuse to test my new tagging super powers. Ha he was gushing in a PM to me earlier! I think his wallet prefers the audio scape! hehe... He knows he's welcome to borrow it for his own recording when that time comes.

Now that I'm listening through headphones rather than off to one side of the monitors, I'm liking the Opto even more than I did last night. Compared to the Opto, the UAD version sounds a bit mushed in the mids. The Opto sounds like it has a bit more clarity there.

I hesitated to post about this one as I think it is pricier, isn't it ? But Proreplicas is the bomb. I can't find any prices on their website.

I invested in a couple of seats this year and have no problem recommending either. The Herman Miller Aeron chair is as comfortable as it gets. The arm pads push back and out of the way and there's no trouble playing guitar in that chair. It's pricey but I'm glad I bought it. It feels like something that's going to last a very long time. I also grabbed a Sound Seat. It's also comfortable even though it took a few minutes to get used to the shape of the seat. It's around half the price of the Aeron and looks like studio chair as opposed to an office chair. It also comes in a wide variety of leather colors (I got bright red because everyone knows bright red helps you write the best songs) and you can order it with or without arms. If you order it without arms, they'll give you the option of drilling the bolt holes for the arms so you can add them later if you want.

I had @vincent R. and another friend over last night and we spent a little time testing the Audio-Scape Opto. Vin was sent home with some audio to post here but it may have been lost (not his fault). In the end we all agreed the Opto is a good unit. We compared it to the UAD LA-2A and it's very close. Since we did the comparison on Vin's files, I'll let him speak to what he heard first. I'm going to grab another as soon as I see one is in stock. I'm also thinking about grabbing their 1176 clone. Does anyone here have any experience with that unit? Edit: Clearly I don't know how to tag someone on this board. Can someone explain that to me?

Some people swear by point to point, others extol the consistency of a well laid out pcb. Given the price point, I don’t see anything surprising or disappointing here. That's good to know.
