Waiting for the Stam Sa-67 to arrive but i seem to be developmg a hankering for one of these Lauten Atlantis Fc-387 Fet mics. does anyone out there in audio land use one of these and care to comment? Main duties would be acoustic guitar and vocals. i love recording in MS for acoustic so i was thinking the FC-387 with the Stam sa67 should pair up nicely.

I have a pair and use it them with a UA 2-610 recording acoustic guitar in m/s. Very satisfied. Also use it for overheads and am satisfied as well. This is a very heavy mic. So, if you're going to use a pair for overheads make sure you have heavy duty mic stands.

I bought one to use as the "side" mic in a mid-side arrangement with my Flea 47 to record acoustic guitar. It's an impressive mic, to say the least, and it has a very 47-ish vibe ...more than I expected for a $1500 microphone. If I didn't have the Flea, this could easily be my go-to vocal mic. It's smooth and has a bit of a tube-ish quality to it but without the harshness that you might find on other 47 type mics in this price range. The high end has some nice sparkle and the mic isn't at all sibilant. It doesn't have the depth nor the fullness on the bottom end that the Flea has (that would be expecting a lot), but it's not very far off. It's also very versatile. It not only has three patterns (omni, cardioid, and fig-8), it also has three voicings (forward, neutral, and gentle) so you can tailor it to your specific needs.
No one should be hesitant to buy the Atlantis. It's a very hard mic to beat in its price range. Go for it. You'll love it.
BTW... the capsule is huge. Rather than an LDC, this mic should be called an XLDC.

Though the capsule is larger then an 87, do you think the name 387 implies an 87 style capsule with 3 x voicing's?

Man that thing is ugly. Haha. I'd love to year one though. They seem to be well liked.

I have it - it's my main mic and sounds great. I like the voicing options on it as it really lets you find the setting for your client, and people come in and give it the head nod of approval, so that's both buckets as far as i'm concerned.
I am tempted to get a 47 clone, but it's not on my priority list because the atlantis does it for me. I instead spent the money on treating my room to reduce reflections, and let me really turn up/compress the microphone while stepping away from the grill to let the sound develop more.

It’s a pretty nice sounding original capsule design , but for the money I would try the new Omni8 just because it is probably a better build, a used Gefell FET with M7 a Sony C37b, C38 or C48 other than the Omni8. These are all classics and I’m betting all including the Omni8 will hold there value better than the Lanten!

I gotta say after just using this microphone that I am very impressed. I imagine a pair of these would get an amazing amount of use as a studio’s workhorses. I did a vocal on it using the Gentle Mode and man did it have a great sound for my operatic vocal. None of the thinness I always feel my U87ai has. I actually preferred it’s sound and versatility to the TLM170 I used to have. I know, I’m crazy. I have a feeling I’ll eventually have a pair of these.
