I'm starting to wonder if the NOS tube in the SA67 is some kind of Chilean government secret.

Got my email today also... September. Damn. I thought I was in early enough. I'll start keeping a look out around Christmas time.

Not sure why Audioscape would do a group buy considering he already sells direct. I was thinking the same thing. The big savings on a group buy comes by eliminating the middle man and in this case there's no middle man. If enough people wanted in, there's probably a little room for a better deal but it's not going to come close to the 30%-40% discount I'd expect from most group buys.

Not a total defense of Stam’s way he does business but I did want to say - in the interest of fairness - Stam has a guy in California who handles his US repairs so there is no overseas shipping involved. Yep, just sent a Stam unit off for repair and communication has been clear and timely with the tech in Cali. My question wasn't about an issue or repair with a product I own. I'm trying to make a decision on whether to opt into the upgrade on his 67 mic and I want to know what NOS tube he uses as part of the upgrade package since he didn't specify that in the SA67 thread. I can't seem to get an answer directly from Josh and whoever wrote me back from Stam thought it was the same tube as in the non-upgraded SA67 and that conflicts with what Josh posted in a thread in this forum.

The other factor is Chris at audio Scape can turn around a product in days rather than months with warm. The other deciding factor was if the need for repair came up Chris is in Florida rather than shipping overseas for 75 bucks each way. I have heard that warm may have some repair centers in the US. Communication is an important issue as well. I emailed Chris with some questions about the Opto (I bought two and a 76a) and he got back to me promptly. I've been trying to get a pretty simple question answered by Josh for 5 days now and he hasn't responded. I emailed his company and the response I got conflicted with what Josh posted in a thread in this forum. I'm not sure what to make of that but it doesn't fill me with confidence and I'm starting to regret putting down payments on a couple of items this past week.

Hey Guys There are two versions of the SA-67 available. Standard and NOS The standard has the Heiserman HK-67 capsule, Cinemag transformer and current made EF86 EH tube. The NOS has the Heiserman HK-67 capsule, AMI BV12 tranformer and NOS EF86 tube. I also added Allen Bradley Carbon resistors. The differences are small, both options sound very good with the NOS being a tiny bit closer to the U67 sound, but minimal. The reason for the price difference is due to the AMI BV12 being seven times more expensive and that in order to get one good EF86 NOS tube working without noise I have to buy at least 3 of them. It is also much more work as I need to build, burn for 48 hours and re test again to make sure it will not present noise afterwards while the current ones are good out of the box. The NOS EF86 is also much more expensive. I would say one get's you 95% there while the other get's you 98% there. Small differences but I know some purist will go for it. Hope this explains it. Thanks Josh stam Josh, third time I'm asking this question ...fourth time if you count the email I sent to your support address... what NOS tube is used in the $500 upgrade to the SA67?

Would the Neumann Group Buy include the rumored new KM84’s? If so yes please I haven't come across this rumor but that would be a great mic to reissue. Where have you seen this rumor?

Magnanimous - very generous or forgiving, especially toward a rival or someone less powerful than oneself. Ii have problems with magnanimity. What about MAGMAnimity?

The Telefunken ELA M 260 Stereo Set would peak my interest if the price was really great.

The September delivery was stated two days ago on FB Stam Audio comments. If you ordered Saturday, I would think you are July: guess you will see in follow up emails soon? That will be a pleasant surprise for me if it turns out that way.

The difference in the sale price is first batch was for July delivery, the extended $499 price, till Sunday, is a September delivery. But how does anyone know if they're in the first batch or the second batch?

So this sold out but apparently $499 price extended to Sunday from FB today! How does one know if they're in that first 100 or not? I was assuming that once the mark was reached, the product page would change but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Just ordered the 76ADG and yesterday I ordered the SA67. Being a member here has cost me quite a bit of money in the past couple of months. I can't wait to try both of these. Any time, Sergio.

Pretty much every mic Advanced Audio makes is about $900 and change. They all completely decimated my KSM44 and beat out the VMS on multiple sources. I heard a bunch of Vincent's shootouts and the VMR wasn't just beat out by the AA mics, it got spanked. I was surprised the difference was as much as it was.

The TLM has a bit more in the top end, but they are definitely in the same sonic camp. I wonder if you could capture some missing top end if you recorded through my Hendy with the Air switch engaged. I'm very curious about that.

I can see where these modeling systems would be useful to beginners who have no idea what microphone path to trod and are looking for a hint at that direction. But if you know the flavor you're after, there are better affordable choices out there (Advanced Audio, ADK, etc) if the reason for purchasing one of these is economics.

Not to derail this thread but how are you liking the Hendyamps DaVinci? The Da Vinci is probably my favorite piece of gear in that rack, now only because of the sweetness of the tone it produces but also because of the flexibility in tone shaping that if affords. You can get a beautiful clean sound (sweet but not sterile and brittle, if that makes sense) from it or you can push it and get some really musical tubey coloration. One of my favorite features is the six-position low cut knob. So rather than simply engaging or not engaging a low cut, you can dial in how much low end you want to cut. The Air switch is useful too if you want a little bit more sparkle on the high end. It's just a really nice piece of gear that flies under the radar for some reason. And when Vincent R. heard himself on it, he damn near wet his pants.

I tore my rack apart this weekend and rearranged things. The new Optos and the 76a made it necessary but it was long overdue. Bright side - the back of the rack no longer looks like a hellish jumbled nightmare of xmas light strings.

The Hardy M1 will give you 60db of gain and is very clean. I think the two channel unit sells for around $1650-1700.
