What I suspect is going to make the Sales Tax situation look like a drop in the bucket? The new Tariff situation, and it's impact on both manufacturers and purchasers. I think the least of our worries will be sales tax..... Umm yeah! Where's a stable genius when you need one?

How much does the government pay business for accounting, collection, and payment of sales tax collected? This is another burden Government puts on all businesses to do their work for free. WE are the government. We are paying ourselves. One way or the other. You must have me confused with a military defense contractor.

Standard 67 : 95% NOS tube: 98% AMI and NOS tube: Identical, I will upload the video when returning from tour tour. It was so close that I actually had to enlarge the tracks to make sure the wave form was different and it was not the same track I was never offered the AMI. How much extra did it cost? The full NOS upgrade is $500 and includes the AMI BV12 tranformer, NOS EF86 tube, and Allen Bradley Carbon resistors.

Just got an email from Stam (finally!) about the NOS tube. I've decided to go for it! After getting my issue sorted out with Josh, I opted for the full NOS treatment. You only live once, right?

My intention wasn't to hijack the thread or piss anyone off but as I had Josh's attention I thought I should take advantage and try to get an acknowledgement of my request to upgrade my 67 order to the NOS version. Apologies to those offended.

Not to mention that it's butt ugly..... That's an understatement. Plus the installation looks like a real pain in the tail.

Hi Jim I have not been able to find a NOS payment, please email me the transaction id at stamaudio@gmail.com stam Josh, did you get my email about upgrading my order to NOS? Jim Josh ( stam), I leave you messages here and I send them to your email address and it's damn near impossible to get a response. Very frustrating, especially as you were on this forum yesterday which means you essentially ignored the question even though I tagged you in the post. Please let me know if you got my email about upgrading the 67 I ordered to the NOS version. Jim

...wonder if they are including the bundled plugs in or whether it is only the individual ones ? If the plugins within the bundle are sold separately, the bundle is excluded. If the plugins are only available as part of the bundle, it's included.

I don't want to get into an argument about this, and I understand and acknowledge as factual your point about vintage 47s not all sounding the same, but I think in almost all cases just about every microphone manufacturer is engaging in a bit of hyperbole when they make claims that their mics sounds exactly or near exactly like a vintage anything. Hell, even Neumann's reissue 67 doesn't sound like a vintage 67. It's a business and I get that a high degree of salesmanship has to take place, and I'm older, wiser, and cynical enough not to rely solely on the hype. I'm not singling you out in that and I don't regard you as one of the bigger offenders. As proof, I recently ordered a 67 and a 76 from you. What I wrote is akin to saying an Infiniti Q50 can't match the luxury of a Rolls-Royce Ghost. That doesn't mean the Infiniti is a terrible car; it's just not as impressive as the Rolls-Royce Ghost. And speaking of that 67 I ordered... I sent a message to your company asking that the 67 be upgraded to the NOS version that you described here. I asked for an email confirmation of that but I've yet to hear back from anyone. I'd like to avoid a situation where the wrong version gets delivered. Can you get someone to confirm the upgrade? The original order was placed on May 5th. Last name is Caputo, email is jim@jimcaputo.com Thanks. Hi Jim I have not been able to find a NOS payment, please email me the transaction id at stamaudio@gmail.com I insist my 47 sounds pretty much identical, so does my 67, I will post blind files and see what people think. I get what you mean by the sales side of things but it would be silly on our side to claim something and then deliver something else. Email is sent.

I keep looking at the one at my local MI shop and 🤔 Wonder what it would sound like if I popped that Thirsch M7 I have inside? Wonder what Shannon could do with this thing? My bank balance keeps me from finding the answers to these important vexing questions. The places our mind takes us when we have a Thirsch M7 burning a hole in our pocket.

To my ears, the Stam and the Peluso sound similar and neither can match the smoothness of the Neumann on the top end. I disagree, the SA-47 has been compared to certain 47's and has had an identical frequency response and distortion figures. The purple forum has some research on that and those charts were published. I agree on this particular 47 mine sounds a tad brighter, but being 10% of the price the differences are barely noticeable. Matching a U47 is possible but it has to be done on a one to one basis, I can match any 47 but I have to hear it, then you adjust the capacitance on the capsule and you get 99% there. Unless someone has the budget to avoid them, there will be compromises. Where we make those compromises depends on our skill set and the music we're recording. I'm no drummer and my work is all of the acoustic singer/songwriter variety. While I'll use a drum track on some songs, I don't use one on everything. Drums just aren't a priority for me so it's a place where I'm willing to compromise. I'm pretty satisfied with how far drum programs have progressed in the past decade. It's certainly better now than when I was banging out drum tracks simply using a keyboard to trigger sounds that had no variation. SD2 gets me about 95% of the way there without too much difficulty. The remaining 5% requires some effort but I can usually get what I want in the end. As soon as it goes on sale, I'll grab SD3 without hesitation.

I was curious to see what it says in the Teletronix LA-2A manual. Here it is...
Side-Chain Pre-Emphasis (R37) The LA-2A was designed for use in broadcast applications. The audio signal in FM broadcasting undergoes pre-emphasis and results in a 17 dB boost at 15 KHz. Due to this increase in signal level, transmitters are subject to over-modulation. The LA-2A provides a control (R37) which controls the amount of high-frequency compression. This potentiometer is factory set for a “flat” side-chain response (clockwise). Increasing the resistance of this potentiometer by turning it counter clockwise will result in
compression which is increasingly more sensitive to the higher frequencies.
So it does sound like the Audio-Scape Opto high frequency control knob is true to the original (unless UA has changed the function of that control since the original).

[quote timestamp="1527085583"Audio-Scape's is a hi frequency adjuster, like the original. It is not a side chain. At least not per their website. Stated on the website. Read it again😎 What the website says: This potentiometer was factory set for recording as “flat” side-chain response (clockwise). Increasing the resistance of this potentiometer by turning it counter clockwise will result in compression which is increasingly more sensitive to the higher frequencies. It filters out low frequencies to the T4B module so it compresses the lows less and changes the 'focus' of the compression.
So it's side-chain and it sounds like he's saying it's true to the original but I don't know enough about the original to know if that's accurate.

Anyone who's sourced old tubes knows you must settle for whatever low noise brand you can get. That's probably why there is no possible answer to your question. If that's the case, that could have been his answer. Silence certainly isn't an answer.
