One of the best analog audio designers I knew worked on a new kind of phono preamp/RIAA EQ and it turned out amazing. Some really innovative stuff that we discussed in a general way since he was under various contracts and NDAs. Some of you knew him, Brad Wood, also known as Bcarso over at GroupDIY (for a while before he got tired of the DIY game same as I did) and left the group. Unfortunately he died a few weeks ago of cancer that he didn't know he had until it was already too late. He was perhaps one of the last true old-school phono preamp gurus. Sorry to hear your friend had an untimely passing... F*** Cancer I hope he has passed on his knowledge to the companies he was contracted with or better yet a son or daughter to carry it on...

Has there been any concrete info released regarding 2017-2018 Mac Pro? I had read some rumors I believe regarding the new Mac Pro however that was from a link in a GS thread....
Some of my questions would be: Actual release date? New Ground Up Design? Traditional Cheese Grater Design? Components? Options/ Choices for configurations? USB-C/ TB3? User Replaceable/ Upgradeable RAM/ Drives/ Graphics Cards Projected Cost? Extreme Production Delays like Trashcan MP had?
I'm sure there are more if I thought about it longer 😀

Amazing range and singing as always Bravo Vincent Brvao! 😎
Would love to hear you in a properly designed live room...
Not sure what type of treatment is in that room you recorded in ( maybe that room is a prop for the vid, even if it is please read on ) however I would love to hear the room treated with absorption and diffusion from GIK or even self built rockwool Gobo in a \_/ behind you would tighten up the room sound in the vocal takes and kill off some unwanted reflections... Especially with the amazing dynamic range you can display with those loud triumphant phrases, you can really excite the room and cause unwanted room reflections captured in your audio.
By doing this, less " Reverb " will be needed / added to The ld Vox because the recording space is more balanced and you will begin to appreciate the natural room sound/ ambience that the room can bring/ add.... that's also what helps a vocal maintain a " 3D image "...
As always, your singing is phenomenal, whether AA mic or Max Mod 😎💯

The v72's came today and I got to do a session with them.. I have the mercury m72s as well. they are wonderful, but the tele's are more than a little rounder and mellow. V72/v76 do this thing where it's never ever harsh, just round and mellow. I have this image in my head when I hear it. The analogy is if the audio going through it was my body, the audio coming out the other end is like an outer body experience, like I'm outside the sound looking at it. Like there is this aura around the sound. I have a feeling fearn pres do this trick too but I've never heard them. I hope this post isn't too ridiculous. It's just like, my opinion, man... Shrooms are cheaper than v72/ v76's 🍄😂

Did you get it working yet? Spotty soldering has plagued me in the past with CAPI builds. As well as a few other weird problems like flux getting on the PCB pins at the connector end. Thanks man. No. Haven't figured it out yet. Pretty frustrating. I bought some jester solder. Was using radio shack shit so who knows. Gonna try and touch up. You got this man 😎✅

I have not heard Kii Three, however for the amount they cost I would lean more towards a purchase of an ATC/ Barefoot/ Genelec pair... Again this is purely from an investment standpoint... Im sure the Kii three are fantastic monitors however there is stiff competition at this price!

I didn't know daw's had deficiencies that need to be corrected? Can you please explain this or expound on your original thought please? Thanks 😀 That really gave me something to think about. On a good day I'm not fixing deficiencies as much as enhancing what is there. But I guess there are times when I have to fix bad choices on my part. Now a days we don't have budgets so people come to me wanting to record 8 songs in 4 hours. I end up compromising and not having time to move mics or change up my strategies. Then there are occasional sessions where a guitar player insists on how awesome his all in one guitar processor is and how he doesn't even need an amp. Then I have to sort that out after he leaves. Of course ChaseUTB, maybe you were just teasing me. No I was honestly asking and trying to be polite because ITB vs OTB discussions can get hectic quick 😀 That was a great answer man and I appreciate you taking the time to explain. I understand regarding budgets and time constraints, everyone wants it done yesterday, and they expect the best quality possible... I am happy that I have the DAW because of the infinite possibilities and the daw allows me to seemlessly jump from one song to the next. This is something I truly appreciate because even in a console workflow, I would have to print, take pics/ recall sheets/ then zero out the gear and console ( not to mention if you add tape then the added steps this takes ) just to move to the next mix/ song... have a great day 😀

Hey man what companies employ 3u audio capsules in their mics? My pm's work if you prefer to not clutter this thread ... thanks It's not that I don't want to clutter the thread, it's that the 3U owner's bread and butter is making capsules for other companies (has been for 20+ years) and I can't post that info online. If you read the massive 3U Audio thread on GS you can figure some of it out 😌 It must not be too secret considering you are speaking about it freely 😎... you put the info out there to begin with, not sure why it's a problem now when you are asked... Edit*** not trying to start anything, and by no means by me asking about which companies employing 3u's capsules was not in any way an attempt to discredit the quality of those companies... Have a good day 😬

At some point we will see highly desired Chinese made mics, for the most part China is all about large scale manufacturering but at some point we will see Chinese boutique manufacturers. As we export consumerism and China's concept of capitalism matures small scale entrepreneurship will start to take hold. Don't forget the lowerend Bock as well as the Manley Cardiod use select Chinese Capsules and As the demand for quality and low price grows we will probably see Chinese copies that are more consistent quality just like we have in the loudspeaker arena. The communist are pretty good capitalist, if Clients like Dave demand Quality they will deliver, their engineering and design talent is equal to anybody. We're already there, sonically. The mythology just hasn't caught up 3U's capsules are in more 'boutique' mics than people realize. Hey man what companies employ 3u audio capsules in their mics? My pm's work if you prefer to not clutter this thread ... thanks

Actually, it's "saving" $300 on a quad, so $699. You are correct! I assumed the Quad had the same " price reduction " as the Octo and was mistaken...

Let me know what you think of the Sknote plugin! I am currently reviewing a 176 styled plugin from another company, and it seems to be lacking in the saturation department. I would love a really kick ass vari-mu plugin of that variety that isn't your typical Fairchild or Manley emulation. MJUC from klanghelm

Octo is $1000 and Quad is $500 til June 30, 2017...Then are they going to raise it back to $1500/ $1000 ?? I would hope not .. Oh ya On top of that you would have to shell out another $400 for 3 plugs....just is wayyyy too expensive... glad my Apollo had dsp sharks swimming in it because I would not be shelling $1000 for an octo/ Quad... the 3 for $399 would be decent pricing if you didn't have to purchase the dsp device too... Hoping UAD has some cool new innovations coming..

Are they trying to make them look like ATC with the big mid domes? Maybe it is just me 😂🤔 In other words has anyone heard these Adams or Dynaudio LYD's? They are both completely " new designs "? I thought they looked more like Neumann/KH with the horn and wave guide, but looks like the Skan Speak dome. Yes very KH neumann-esque design ethos, a lot of people are excited to hear these. Some are previous Adam owners/ users, however this new line is supposed to be revamped and have less of an " earlier Adam model " when discussing the tweeter overall sound + design ... I still think the Barefoot FootPrint 01 is the monitor to be had at $4000 and under.... Still would love to hear these new Adams at this listening event... Imagine a listening event where the room didn't matter / effect sound reproduction 😱 .... Wait I think JKenn and Svart mentioned a room at Blackbird that is like that... So treated and diffused the sound washes away into silence ( acoustic treatment )

I think it's 3 for $499 and so on...but I think they've done 3 for $399 before. Think I'll wait for that. Is that just right now because of Messe? ( 3 for $499) The only time I ever received the 3 for $399 is when registering an Apollo.

I would throw my hat on the the AD side... once tracked you can swap out DA's but you are stuck with what you have got... having said that its all important though... we all know that. cheers Wiz I agree with wiz , I think A/D is most important . Your stuck with whatever the original A/D sounds like.....FOREVER..... D/A kinda doesn't matter to me as much cause whoever listens to your music is always gonna listen to it on a different D/A . It could be a really nice D/A or crappy D/A . You have no control over it and its not a part of your sound . Unless your going OTB . But still every playback system and room sounds different . So if your mixing ITB , I think D/A is not very important , Except your D to A converter feeds your monitors? That's very important for tracking and dialing in sounds, mixing and mastering... Whatcha think?

How many if you use you DA for HW/ outboard? Yup your DA is included in that round trip print.... can't swap that out either, you would have to get another converter and re print thru the analog chain... Both are super important... Still feel DA is more important to me... AD can be Tracked conservatively at -20dbfs peaks and stay out the way of the ad circuit folding in under higher gain staging/ clipping...
I have Always heard about cheap converters not handling full scale ( high gain level ) signals or clipping welll due to the analog / conversion stage... so this tells me keep my levels more conservative and I can avoid the pitfalls of the cheap converter... any feedback?

I thought at one point they had the 3 for $399 and 6 for $699? I agree and the " custom bundle " threw me off too, I guess it's Only when purchase an octo or Apollo I saw the 3 for $699 too and thought it was was 3 for $399 6 for 699 10 for $999 but apparently I was wrong...
