Dude! Can't wait to hear more. I am just over the moon with this mic. It is truly a thing of beauty. I am looking to see what mic I want to sell to get another one. Only two small inconsequential issues. 1- the shockmount slides. This is a known issue and they suggested that I add two washers. ... 2- the capsule alignment is off 1.5cm. The capsule faces slightly to the right. I am working with the service dept to find an amendment. I have a feeling I will end up being told to just rotate it slightly myself. I am sending pictures to their service dept and will see what they say. First off I'm glad the mic sounds so glorious! Second I am sorry to hear that you have those issues with the mic. This is me and I am not a skilled mic tech however I would not touch that mic even with a written contract saying you can and won't void warranty...I would send it back immediately and get a new one... A $4500 mic should not have a capsule installed and misaligned.. Also QC with the shock mount is something you would expect with sub $500 dollar mics... What concerns me is they are shipping this mic with a known problem with the shock mount... I understand the sound quality is great however how are you hearing the true representation of the capsule if it is not installed correctly? I sincerely hope you the best with your mic and a positive timely outcome... I really hope Chandler LTD corrects this known shock mount problem and replaces free of charge to all customers affected... I wonder how many others customers capsules are installed incorrectly and the don't know... Never thought Chandler a company to slack on QC and manufacturing/ assembly...

I have heard famous engineers talk about not hearing the compression before with certain iconic pieces... I always thought that was to sell the item.
For example: I always read and hear how a sta level is doing -20 Db of compression and people dont hear it or think it is not working... I always thought they meant the gear performed its duty so well it seemed effortless or like it wasn't working?
Idk, maybe dithering to and from HW will make compression more transparent for me ๐ฌ๐ now to test....

Am I the only one that's really super eager to hear about the new Mac Pro? Since The day I found out Apple would be releasing the new one, I have literally been checking every day to figure out more details/ news and I feel it's becoming an issue ๐ Really Hope Apple doesn't pull a slate and prolong the concrete info til q4 2018 โน๏ธ
Also I'm probably not one to put all my eggs in an iMac Pro basket but I have to admit an iMac Pro does sound convincing as long as it's modifiable or user upgradable ....

So this for $2599? I'm sure it's sounds amazing but the price has me ๐ค I could:
1.) a miktek cv4 used for $1200-1300 and then send to mic rehab for another $500-$1000 worth of work 2.) a pearlman tm-1 for $1699 and $999 to spend on a preamp or comp, or again send to mic rehab if needed... 3.) a user Neumann u89 for an all arounder...
Idk this price is way to much for the mic to be so generic / oem'd up... Normally the bock mics look and sound killer ( 507/47/251/241 ) I just can't see myself dropping almost $3000 for this mic... that's me without hearing it... here is to hoping the mic performs and stands up with the big boys. Bock knows his mics/ circuits/ tubes.. ๐

Please don't get upset this is just my opinion... and by no means am I trying to discredit anyone ears... this is my opinion and experience ๐
transparent compression towards -15db will def be audible imo with a correctly setup CR and monitors...
I have found one certain monitors make even -15db of compression or GR sound transparent when it's really a shortcoming of the monitors and room... I have to be careful sometimes when limiting things because my monitors are masking some of the distortions with their own not revealing some nastiness that would usually be audibly present in a better monitor..
The first time this happened to me was when I went from m audio bx5 to a CR with unity audio monitors with Tim de Pavirincini ( sp?) amps and starting compressing a vocal with the Avid Pro Compressor and it's like a freakin light bulb went off in my ears / head... finally " heard " the compression...
This was also in my 5th year working with music but only my actual 2nd year with experience and proper training ( schooling ) So yes my ear was obviously still developing and learning what to listen for...
I really like my hs8 monitors however they do not let you hear compression well... it was something I had to learn on them and it was kind of annoying for the first year of having the hs8...

Are they good on vocals? I'm looking out for affordable vocal hardware. Used Warm audio wa76? Well i looked on eBay and there aren't any..Only one factory re-pack for $539.. the wa76 have been out awhile as well... to me that speaks to the quality being pretty awesome and says the product performs as intended... been very happy with mine that I purchased new ๐

No compression on vocals. No salt on your chips (fries) No gravy (or butter even) on your mashed potatoes No mustard on your hot dog No ketchup on your burger No sex in your love life. Sure, why not? Aka life sucks ๐

I did not know there was any ๐ Maybe perfect mic techniques would combat the need for compression? Idk interesting premise...
Fader riding is Compression in my opinion, to me it is just AGC ( gain compensation) or Leveling but still a form of restricting " gain/ volume range ".
I have plenty of dry vocals only because i didn't have the HW to comp on the way in.. however 99% of the time having some form of compression even if 3:1 soft knee can really help parts of those vocals sustain and become more audible/ present/ heard better than before..
Cool idea for a thread ๐

if ADC and DAC can't reproduce the audio dynamic range that 32 bit float represents how are you actually working in 32 bit float hearing or having this DR reproduced?
I understand that working internally at 32 bit float then going to HW externally would need dither because the DAC works at 24 bits... I'm cool with dither when changing the bit depth, and this lines up with my understanding / teaching/ learning/ experience...It's the 24 bit to 24 bit dither im asking about?
If Dither is not an answer and only covers up or masks the Quantization Distortion, how do you know your dither is " loud enough " to mask the " distortion from errors "?
How audible are the quantization distortions?
How does masking errors with noise make the top end / clearer?
Does the quantization distortion only occur in HF affecting the top end or HF?

m03Def had some gik on my list, thanks ๐ I built all my other treatment and was amazing experience however I would def buy GIK now due to my health... plus I could be making or mixing killer music instead of building panels... Guitar I drool over the hair ball rev A as well as pro replica Rev A revisions and want one to add to my arsenal... I am not skilled into diy enough for me to trust my own build.. And again who knows how long that would take so if I were to order the hairball, I feel having my kit sent to a proper tech to be built would be best... I was thinking about Studio one Pro license as well... Keep em comin guys / gals and thanks for the great ideas so far...

Ya would be nice..... I have a few more questions....
I work in 24 bit and print 24 bit files... 32 bit float is a bit of a fallacy to me if ADC and DAC can't reproduce the audio dynamic range that 32 bit float represents how are you actually working in 32 bit float hearing or having this DR reproduced?
I understand that working internally at 32 bit float then going to HW externally would need dither because the DAC works at 24 bits... I'm cool with dither when changing the bit depth, and this lines up with my understanding / teaching/ learning/ experience...
Dither is not an answer it's a band aid it covers up or masks the QD... it doesn't remove it... then how do you know your dither is " loud enough " to mask the " distortion from errors ".....
How audible are the quantization distortions? If 24 bit audio needs to be dithered when bouncing and To and from HW, How does masking errors with noise make the top end / clearer? Do the quantization distortion only occur in HF affecting the top end? A mix imploding on itself? What does this mean? How is shaped noise going to save your mix from imploding?
Ian shepherd recommends/ says to dither when bouncing to disk even working 24 bit source to 24 bit bounce....Dither is a shaped noise used to cover up quantization errors. This is not going to make or break a mix because you did not dither going to your HW... my opinion likes other opinion is you need too. To quote Ian Shepherd,
Always use dither when saving out to 16 or 24-bit files. Thatโs it ! The single most misleading piece of advice, which I keep seeing, is โonly dither once."
" I do agree you should only use it once within a single DAW application, on the main stereo output โ so you donโt need it on every channel, or in-between plugins, for example โ but you do need it once when saving your file before mastering, and then again when exporting the final 16-bit master."
"So a better rule would be: Always dither โ unless youโre staying at 32-bit floating point, in which case once is enough. Other versions of this advice I often see include only dithering when saving to 16-bit, or only at the mastering stage. Again, I disagree. Itโs true that the truncation distortion caused by not using dither at 24-bit is much harder to hear than at 16-bits, but itโs there, and itโs horrible. So when youโre saving out at 16 or 24-bit before mastering a file, especially more than once, correct dithering is essential. And if youโre bouncing tracks internally, to remove plugins and reduce CPU overhead โ you should definitely dither ! (Unless youโre saving at 32-bit floating point)" end quote
This article is 5 years old though and most of the info I looked up is dated and was new in 2013 so I am ill keep researching if others here can't provide any more insight ๐ Thanks in advance ๐๐ค

I work at 24 bit how does this apply? I have never used dither when going from digital to analog ๐ and my music sounds fine to ears way more " refined " than mine ๐๐ค In my mind the analog HW noise level is going to be higher than any added dither " shaped noise " to any signal being sent to the HW from the DAC.. theoretical yes ๐ค
32 bit float has a sliding scale ( mantissa expressed as an exponent )and is not the same as 24 bit integer... I understand theoretically 32 bit float has infinite headroom however DAC or ADC cannnot reproduce that dynamic range when converting audio. Also why would I want to work in 32 bit float?.. Thanks in advance ...
So is this info incorrect?
"24-bit audio does not require dithering, as the noise level of the digital converter is always louder than the required level of any dither that might be applied. 24-bit audio could theoretically encode 144 dB of dynamic range, but based on manufacturer's datasheets no ADCs exist that can provide higher than ~125 dB."

Isotope Ozone has great dither as well... also has a few options to shape the overall noise as well as filtering D.C. Offset and limiting leaks, and auto blanking( no audio, no added noise ).. 64 outs would be a ton on CPU with Ozone 6 or 5 unless you have advanced because that plugin is CPU heavy unless you have advanced where you can use each module individually as a plugin by itself. ( yes even using just one module creates lots of delay comp offset)

So let's say I have 64 outs from pro tools...do I put a dither on each one? Bob O will say yes. How does dither affect Digital to analog conversion and why does bob O or drbill use dither before entering the analog realm? ( eager to learn thanks ) If you are sending 24bit audio to the DAC does the added noise combine with the analog noise and cancel it making a greater signal to noise ratio? I just understand in my feeble brain why adding noise to equipment that can be prone to noise if not gain staged properly, be beneficial for the audio and result in a better sounding final mix/ master... yes I'm going to test this new phenomenon for myself and see what I think/ hear ๐ However any feedback in advance would be great! Thanks

Amazing range and singing as always Bravo Vincent Brvao! ๐ Would love to hear you in a properly designed live room... Not sure what type of treatment is in that room you recorded in ( maybe that room is a prop for the vid, even if it is please read on ) however I would love to hear the room treated with absorption and diffusion from GIK or even self built rockwool Gobo in a \_/ behind you would tighten up the room sound in the vocal takes and kill off some unwanted reflections... Especially with the amazing dynamic range you can display with those loud triumphant phrases, you can really excite the room and cause unwanted room reflections captured in your audio. By doing this, less " Reverb " will be needed / added to The ld Vox because the recording space is more balanced and you will begin to appreciate the natural room sound/ ambience that the room can bring/ add.... that's also what helps a vocal maintain a " 3D image "... As always, your singing is phenomenal, whether AA mic or Max Mod ๐๐ฏ ChaseUTB, I wish the panels were for show. No, that's a live performance in my basement studio. It's not the most ideal space for my voice, but I make it work. It's a 21' x 19' x 7.5' room that doubles as a studio/office and playroom for my son. The panel configuration in the room is loosely based on an auralex plan that was written up for me. The biggest difference between the work up and what I actually did is the ceiling. They had advised numerous absorption and reflection panels on the ceiling. Most of it way too big for my short ceiling. ย There are a few additional things I'd like to do down there, but I haven't really had the chance. In truth, I've spent most of my career recording in spaces like this.ย ย I do have access to a really nice space at my old University. I'm starting the beginnings of a Christmas album with my wife, and will probably record orchestral stuff and possibly vocals there. If that doesn't work out I work at a church that will do well. ย If you really want to hear me or treated room check out my website below and click on the press kit page and listen to Nessun Dorma on the music player. ย While the orchestra was a prerecorded track, my voice was recorded at the national opera center in NYC. Talk about a gorgeous sounding room. We used a U87ai blend with a Blue Woodpecker and a Royer SF12 in the room. Once my career takes off I'm building a place like that.ย In truth, these YouTube videos are really just to generate buzz and find new fans. My audience tends to be a little older, so I'm not sure if it will work, but I don't know any other classical crossover guys doing the YouTube thing. ย We shall see. ย If you know people who will like what I'm doing, please share the videos. If you like it, please subscribe. I've spent many years of my career getting to a point where I was "almost there." ย I just keep pushing. ย In the words of Steve Martin when asked how to make it in entertainment, "Be so good they can't ignore you." I know budgets can be tight... for $250 or $300 you can do wonders with 703 and or rockwool, some " breathable " "stretchy " fabric ", and some 2 x 4s, plus a couple picture hangers plus weight tested wire. This way you can hang and remove as needed ๐... I know we all deal with compromises, especially in home Studios, however thankfully today we don't have to have a million dollar room to be able to cut a great dry vocal ๐ Have a great day
