I'm still trying to get through 1995's new music . . . A lot of stuff I buy these days is stuff released many moons ago, gaps in my collection as it were. For example I intend to check out more of the early iterations of Fleetwood Mac, complete my Joe Henry library, Thin Lizzy perhaps. I’ve been avoiding the Grateful Dead my entire life. Will 2024 be the year I actually check them out? Time will tell perhaps. Cheers, Geoff Oh good another Joe Henry fan! What’s your favorite record of his? I try the Dead once every 2 years or so. Just can’t seem to find a way to find it interesting.

Inline with the title of the thread, the 52" SawStop table saw. Gateway to so many great projects including this new back wall which is doing some pretty mind-blowing things in my room. If we are going in this direction I’ll throw in my Milwaukee m18 track saw. I should have purchased a track saw years ago and I’m kicking myself for not doing so after seeing how easy it’s made my life with certain projects.

Plug everything in except the mics. Then patch a cable into the bay and use a meter to check the other end for phantom. Turn console on and off and repeat.
Some consoles just have a global switch to turn it on/off. It won’t hurt anything to be on even with mics that don’t need it, but don’t plug or unplug patch cables while it’s on.

FWIW - ProAudioStar is selling new M88s for $299. However, QC concerns people are mentioning have me reconsidering a Beyerdynamic. Sound samples of the Heil on kick don't do much for me. Maybe it's not the time for a new kick drum for me. RE320 has been doing just fine for awhile. I’ve had 3 m88s for about 8 years and have never had a problem with any of them. They feel quite bulletproof and substantial. Makes a 57 feel like a toy. Put them inside kick drums all the time without a screen. Never even thought to put one on there. Snag one if you think it’ll do the trick for you.

I generally try to only purchase a guitar if I’ve played it and I’m immediately drawn to it. As in I absolutely MUST have this thing and it’ll crush my soul to miss out on this instrument.
If you can’t play it before buying it, I’d say skip it.
I’d suggest getting to a store where you can play the modern 28’s vs something like the hd28, the golden era version, and a torrified top version. They all sound so different.
The Golden Era versions are particularly nice instruments. I’ve got the 000-18 version and it’s got such a beautiful sound. You do need to deal with the bigger V necks on them. I really like that but I know that for some folks it’s a deal breaker.

Folkways down the highway an hour or so carries them. And they are quite discerning in what they stock. And, they helped design Iris’ take on an L-00. So, they like em. I have not tried one, however. Cheers, Geoff That’s high praise coming from Stutman if he carries them.

Cleaner but not sterile or without any character. If I really needed to throw something thru a preamp in a pinch, and wanted good and clean and not heavily influenced without any regrets, Grace would win. Oh no doubt, just from memory the Spectra Sonics we’re not quite that clean a bit more wool to them. I always describe them as really really fast preamps. They give an immediacy to the sound and almost make a Neve sound like mush. Great for lots of things If that’s what you’re after. I always think it’s funny that the design of the 610 complimiter was meant to be used for clean peak limiting, but the majority of engineers that used them slammed the ever loving shit out of them and they became known as a dirt box. They are great for both of those things though. Should have picked up a pair when that sale was happening a few months ago but had some other things money wise that needed the attention first.

Why do people balk at iloks or certain types of auth? I’ve wondered this myself. I have everything I can on my ilok, then bring that and another usb stick with my plug installers on it with me to other studios just in case they don’t have a plug that I want to use. And yes I always ask first if it’s cool to install a plug-in on their machine.

They are expensive, but I switched from fender mediums to Blue Chip picks about 10 years ago and won’t use anything else now. I haven’t lost a pick in that timeframe. Everybody that I have gotten to try them out ordered some immediately.

Messed with it at AES for a good 20 mins. It sounds really good. Eq is super smooth. Feels real. They did a really nice job with it. The frame is built like a tank with a proper 12” or so shelf on the back. You could stand on the thing and jump up and down and it isn’t going to budge. Power supply is beefy and plugs into a single iec at 110.
Cons: -solos are hard switched, so no solo clear in the center section. That seems like it might not be a big deal but coming from working mostly on ssl desks you get really used to that feature. Bummer. -of course no automation and they don’t plan on adding it or making it a feature. -not inline -32 or 48. No plans for 24 channel versions unless they get tons of interest in that size.
Really cool desk. I’m not sure what market they are looking to serve though.

I’ve been doing 1:1 Amaro Nonino and Bourbon the past few nights as an after dinner situation. Not bad! 1.5 Sfumato 1 Capelletti .5 High Proof Bourbon Delicious if you're an amaro fan. It’s a recent discovery and I do enjoy it

An hour a day for 10 years and you’ll be passable.
It’s an ornery bastard of an instrument with inherent tuning instabilities that must be compensated for and constantly adjusted by mechanics and by ear. Those are its good traits.
Probably one of the most beautiful sounding instruments in capable hands. I’m fond of E9 tunings but with more atmospheric things happening - think of Daniel Lanois’ playing.
C6 tuning for western jump etc is also cool, just not really my bag.

Stage One pedal steel. I have wanted to learn for so long and have been on the waiting list for Doug to build me one for a year+. I'm gonna be so terrible for quite a while. But that sound...just really does a thing for me. View AttachmentThey are great - I have one as well. He builds a nice instrument at a price that is feasible for people that can’t bite the bullet with one of the bigger brands (and bigger prices). I think my only complaint, and it’s a small one - the pickup output is SUPER hot on mine so it can really blow up an amp if you’re trying to get super clean sound out of it. Playability wise it’s fantastic. I have to rack my brain every time I sit down to use it on a session or song. Takes me forever to be happy with my intonation. I just haven’t had the time in the past five years to sit down and work on my playing for an hour every day. Good luck with it! Not many instruments are as satisfying to hear yourself on playback when you get the good take!

The group not the location!
Saw them Last night in Asbury and they totally blew me away. Band is absolutely smoking. Afie’s tele tone is unbelievably good through a little combo TEX Bernie amp. Definitely check them out if they happen to come through your area.

I wonder if Warm is also using the worst pots in the universe on their units to copy the Tube Tech. I swear you look at those things sideways and they move. Not sure why they spec them like that, but it also makes a 5k unit feel like a piece of junk.

I bought two of these to get chicks in LA. Unfortunately when they realized it wasn’t a boat I was SOL. Trying to return them now. Did you tell them that you had two boat anchors? Maybe they would have went for that.
