A proper old fashion cocktail with an ounce of Heaven Hill 6 year and an ounce of Early Times Bottled in Bond for a little extra proof and corn sweetness. Glad to know there are other whiskey lovers in the group. Cheers to internet friends!

The quarter is on (I'm in school) so I have to mostly cut out my evening enjoyments of the liquid variety. But often about 1 or 2 AM when my brain gives out, I pour a couple fingers of trusty old Bulleit Rye and give myself a 20-minute wind down before bed. Usually look up some dorky studio footage of Fleetwood Mac or weird VHS-dub of an ELO TV special from Denmark or something like that and let my left brain rest.

ragan For a change of pace you should give Old Forester Rye a shot (no pun intended) it’s around $20. Surprisingly excellent especially for the money. Don’t mind sipping it neat at all

Last night . . . i did the absolute unthinkable and should be banished from this sub-forum for it.
1 shot of Bulleit, 1 shot of BH Dark and 1 shot of Sherry
. . . in the same glass.
. . . at the same time.
(I'm persona non-grata now)

Kinda like the adult beverage equivalent of a 'suicide' at the pop machine- a blast of each flavor in the same cup But to each their own!

Been avoiding whiskey to save money.

I've been using whatever cheap bourbon for bourbon rickeys lately. Half a lime, squeezed into old fashioned glass with some ice, drop it in after, "some" bourbon and top with seltzer. Low maintenance, hard to mess up.

Which brewery and beer? Bonus points for photo Blue Tarp Brewing's Hawking Radiation! It's a hazy double New England IPA. 11% No pictures, unfortunately. IPAs are strong, but I don't like the taste - WAAY too much hops, and if it's not overhopped by definition it's not an IPA.
I like a nice strong English or Scottist style (not Irish - too bitter) stout. Chocolate stouts are OK, too.
The reason IPAs are, by definition, overhopped is historical. IPA stands for India Pale Ale. Back in the colonial days in India (before refrigeration) the traditional English ales would spoil from the heat, so they added extra hops as a preservative and called it IPA to distinguish it from the more palatable English ales. It wasn't really popular elsewhere until American hipsters started doing boutique brands and brewpubs. Being essentially clueless about what constitutes a good ale (being raised on dishwater and horse piss) they decided that the mark of a good beer was the amount of hops, so they jumped on the IPA bandwagon. Maybe a bit of a simplification, but that's basically the truth.
