A fresh bottle of Larceny. Have I created a monster? No, you've created happiness!

Tonight was a margarita for me, but were out of limes. What to do for number two?? Hard to go wrong with an old fashioned - sugar cube muddled (or teaspoon of sugar) with few dashes of bitters. 2 ounces of bourbon. A decent cherry (luxardo or comparable) dropped in. Sometimes I add a teaspoon of the cherry syrup from the jar. Add ice, stir a little bit. Take a piece of orange peel about 1 inch x 3 inches, and squeeze it lengthwise a few times onto the top of the drink and drop the peel in. Adds a nice aroma and citrus sweetness from the expressed oils. Dont muddle fruit into it. This isn't a chain restaurant. I guess I don't know whats in the liquor cabinet or fridge. Curious what you settle on. Knowing you, Im guessing a pour of whiskey neat.

Aside from ratios, the key to an old fashioned is in the duration to the stir before your pour. 20 seconds in a stirring glass, then set for ten or so. I’m going with a bourbon smash.

Yeah I just threw up a quick guide for folks who may not be familiar with a ‘real’ old fashioned. I’m sure you make a great one!

Rum and soda. I haven't left the house in weeks and I don't feel like driving to town. But I'd like a bottle of Michter's Bourbon.

What's this rum and margarita business? This is a bourbon sub-forum. LOL

1989 Benchmark was the highlight, followed by HW Midwinters Night Dram (Rye finished in Port Barrels) and 1970 Old Fitzgerald 6 year Bottled in Bond.

My recent drink has been an Old Fashioned. My recipe is pretty straight ahead and right now I've got bottles of Bullet Rye and Knob Creek in rotation: 2 shots of whiskey to no more than 1/2 a shot of simple syrup; 4 good shakes of angostura bitters; lemon twist; and just like all of my martinis require a vegetable, no Old Fashioned is complete without fruit. In this case a Luxardo cherry. Expensive, but so much better than those candy-ass maraschinos.

Also when you say a shot- 1.5 oz per shot, so 3 oz total? I also go with a coin of orange peel expressed myself.

Woodford Rye tonight. I’ve been completely ruined by that OH 1910. This taste like spicy water now.
