If it sounds close at all I think they'll kill it with this one considering how impossible Tube Techs are to get right now and how badly Heritage fumbled with their clone.

Is their LA2A or 1176 any good? I’ve never used one.

I have an Audioscape Opto Comp that is really fantastic, it has that original 68 vibe, I prefer it to the UA RI I bet Audioscape could do a great CL1B of their own. Though I would of thought unlike an LA2A or 1176 that a CL1B was protected by copyright laws as it’s a fairly relatively device?

i don‘t own any warm audio gear but the ones i‘ve tried elsewhere always seem to lack color and charakter. so you might as well buy klark teknik and save money. if this new one is in the same vein it would be a waste of money in my opinion.

Or rather than Klark Teknik buy Audioscape and never have to buy again

The Warm gear is never bad, but never great. It’s usable. But they are smart about trying to fill this niche. I would wait for Stam’s though.

Yeah I’m wondering… since the thread opens with “entering the cl1b competition”, can it be a competition really? is it possible in these days to make a great/equal unit for less than a tube tech or other hand made, high end component in house built units? I’m genuinely wondering. Every time a new low budget unit is revealed we get all excited… maybe this one will be the one making my front end or hybrid life cheap. Has it ever? Anyone remember coming across one of these budget units that turned out to be great, not just good for it’s price but actually great?

Why would a company want to clone something still in production? And to be honest, a CL1b isn't really that great a compressor. We're not talking Fairchild or Sta-level here or Chandler 124 or 600 league.
I honestly can't remember the last time I used mine. Two 12AX7s and a fistful or parts.

Throw a NOS Tele 12AX7 into the V1 slot on the AS Opto and you're flirting with the CL1B sound. Chris at AS prefers this setup for himself. It's how I run mine.

I heard Alesis is releasing an upgraded 3630. The 362436. It's expected to be quite a lovely model. Hot on the heels of it's legendary processor. Chris

What is the love affair with this unit? It’s grabby and persnickety.

What is the love affair with this unit? It’s grabby and persnickety. It’s hype because it has been used on a bunch of hits, as though the vocal compressor was the key. If you want a great modern opto, Buzz SOC seems like the one to beat.

I thought the pic Stam posted was just a one off custom he built for someone. Hopefully it's a teaser of what's to come though. I'd definitely check one out. Stam made the best LA2A in my opinion.
